Legal regulation of insurance intermediaries activities
Málek, Jan ; Vybíral, Roman (advisor) ; Karfíková, Marie (referee)
of the thesis In this thesis I deal with a comprehensive view of the legal regulation of the activity of insurance intermediaries, including a look into the history, analysis of the current national and European legislation and the expected development of national regulations. Work has been divided into four chapters. The first chapter is dedicated to the insurance industry as a specific economic sector. Here I define the concept of insurance, dealing with the history of the industry and briefly mention the existing legal regulations of insurance in the Czech Republic. At the end of the first chapter I analyze the various distribution networks in the insurance industry with reference to the inclusion of insurance intermediaries as the most important distribution channel. The second chapter is devoted to detailing the significance of insurance intermediaries and the nature of their activities. Similar to the first chapter, here is also a part briefly focused on a historical development of insurance intermediaries activities. A substantial part of this chapter is devoted to current legislation, of which the most important institutions are analyzed in separate sections. Gradually deal with the Insurance Intermediaries Act as a whole, individual categories of insurance intermediaries, the conditions of...
Influence of renewable energy sources on transmission networks in Central Europe
Málek, Jan ; Janda, Karel (advisor) ; Zeynalov, Ayaz (referee)
This thesis focuses on the influence of renewable energy sources on the transmission networks in Central Europe. Firstly, it gives an overview of the power and transmission systems of Central European states. Based on the analysis, three key causes of congestion and instability of the grid are identified. These include (i) insufficient transmission capacity between northern and southern Germany, (ii) Energiewende policy and (iii) existence of German-Austrian bidding zone. To assess the exact impact on the transmission grid, ELMOD model is employed. Two development scenarios for the year 2025 are evaluated on the basis of four representative weeks of the year 2015. The first scenario focuses on the effect of Energiewende on the transmission networks, the second one drops out nuclear phase-out and thus assesses isolated effect of increased solar and wind feed-in. The results indicate that higher feed-in of solar and wind power increases the exchange balance and total transport of electricity between TSO areas as well as the average load of lines and volatility of flows. Solar power is identified as a key contributor to the volatility increase, wind power is identified as a key loop-flow contributor. Eventually, it is concluded that German nuclear phase-out does not significantly exacerbate mentioned problems.
The Activity of European Peoples Party in The European Parliament. The Challanges and The Perspectives
Málek, Jan ; Rovná, Lenka (advisor) ; Škrábalová, Lenka (referee)
Text of the thesis focuses on the activity of the Group of the European People's Party in the European Parliament. It focuses on this issue from three different perspectives. The first perspective presents a theoretical approach on the concept of europarty as transnational political actor that has developed on the basis of the development of the European integration and the development of the European institutions. The second perspective focuses on the work of the European People's Party, as a classic example transnational European party structure. It refers to its historical development and formation in the context of strengthening the position of the European Parliament. It also encompasses the Group of the European People's Party and its influence in the European Parliament in historical perspective. At the same time reveals the inner structure, program policies and operation mechanism of this parliamentary faction. The third perspective focuses on the analysis of the cohesion of the Group of the European People's Party in the seventh term of the European Parliament. The group cohesion is viewed as one of the main characters determining the strength and importance of the parliamentary factions. The analysis is based on the theoretical assumptions of British political scientist Simon Hix. In...
What Drives the Aggregate Credit Risk: The Case of the Czech Republic
Málek, Jan ; Seidler, Jakub (advisor) ; Doležel, Pavel (referee)
There has been a long discussion about macroeconomic variables influencing the level of aggregate credit risk in the economy. While literature provides both empirical evidence and theoretical explana- tion of the influence of the business cycle on credit risk, the effect of other macroeconomic variables has not been explored sufficiently. In addition, recent literature suggests the existence of a latent risk factor behind aggregate credit risk, which is regularly interpreted as the latent default cycle. This thesis provides in its first part a discussion of potential aggregate credit risk drivers, which have been previously suggested in literature. We verify using a linear regression model whether the effect of these macroeconomic variables is also apparent in the Czech Republic. Results seem to be stable for both different model specifications and different clients segments and are in line with previous studies. The second part of this thesis explicitly models the latent factor that is assumed behind aggregate credit risk by adding an unobserved component to the already existing model constructed earlier in this thesis. The unobserved component can be estimated by applying Kalman filter. We subsequently discuss the sources of the latent component and whether it can be interpreted as the default cycle. The...
Pro-cyclicality of Fiscal Policy
Málek, Jan ; Zápal, Jan (advisor) ; Martišková, Monika (referee)
There is large evidence that fiscal policy in many countries tends to pro-cyclicality. This phenomenon is often observed in emerging countries but might also be present in developed ones. It is unclear why so many countries follow apparently sub-optimal fiscal policy. First part of this thesis reviews existing literature concerning pro-cyclical behavior of fiscal policy. It shows in which countries and under which circumstances pro-cyclicality has been present. Furthermore, models explaining pro-cyclicality of fiscal policy are introduced. The remainder of this thesis surveys fiscal policy making in Europe. We show that after subtraction of automatic stabilizers from government budget and considering only discretionary part of fiscal policy, pro-cyclicality of fiscal policy is also present.

The attitude of Czech Republic to the European security and defence policy
Málek, Jan ; Jireš, Jan (advisor) ; Polášek, Martin (referee)
Evropská integrace probíhající v poválečné Evropě prodělala bouřlivý vývoj, kdy do té doby vzájemné národní soupeření jednotlivých evropských národu bylo postaveno tváří tvář před děsivé následky druhé světové války.
Changes in gas exchange of selected genotypes of poppies depending on the influence by low temperature
Málek, Jan ; Hnilička, František (advisor) ; Orsák, Matyáš (referee)
The Czech republic is one of the biggest Opium poppy producers. In 2015, this plant was grown in an area of approx. 32 650 ha. Since the poppy is usually sown quite soon in the spring, it can be damaged (or negatively affected) by low temperatures. The main objective of this Bachelor thesis was to determine the speed of gas exchange in several poppy species affected by low temperatures. In this research, altogether 12 various genotypes of Opium poppy (Papaver somniferum L.) were included in (development phase 35 BBCH). These were concretely following poppy species: CM 112, Sokol, Major, Opál, Florián, Albín, Postomi, Marianne, Budha, Lazur, Aplaus and Orbis. Under controlled conditions of a clima-box (Conviron), the plants were exposed (within 1 week) to daily temperatures of 10 °C and night temperatures of -5 °C. After one week, the night temperature was increased to 5 °C, while the daily temperature remained the same (i.e. 10 °C). In following two weeks, there was measured the photosynthesis- and transpiration- speed (using the infrared gas analysator LDpro+SD). Base on measurements made, there was stated, that there could be noted quite big differences in photosynthesis- and transpiration- speed in particular poppy genotypes involved. This fact proves the existency of obvious differences in gas exchange speed of particular poppy species included in this research. Between the particular measurement terms, there could be also noted differences in photosynthesis- and transpiration speed, which proves the influence of low temperatures on photosynthesis- and transpiration speed.
