The Tea Party Movement and Its Impact on Amecican Politics

The end of the year 2007, during the presidential campaign of Republican congressman Ron Paul, was the first time when the modern Tea Party movement appeared on American political scene. In a short period of time the Tea Party became a significant political force that endorsed many successful candidates in 2010 midterm elections and put pressure on established political parties to follow the will of the people. This thesis, written primarily as a political affairs analysis, examines origins of this grassroots movement and its impact on American politics. Put in a broader historical and socio- economic context, this work tries to create a notion of movement's probable future. The thesis is divided into three major parts. First chapter provides an insight into the historical origins of the modern Tea Party movement and also the birth of populism in the United States. The following part looks into the formation of Tea Party and describes the most important organizations connected with the movement and how they influenced its activities. The third part is focused on the most relevant Tea Party protests and in form of a case study assesses its influence on 2010 midterm elections.

The Process of the US-Soviet Disarmament at the End of 70s

The thesis is focused on the process of US-Soviet disarmament during 70s and especially on the end of the decade. The work is based on the American point of view of the disarmament and it examines the period from the administration of Richard Nixon, when was signed the most important treaty of the beginning of the 70s - SALT I (1972), through administration of Gerald Ford, when Vladivostok accord (1974) came into force, and the final part of the thesis concentrates on the period of Jimmy Carter during which SALT II was signed but it didn't pass the U.S. Senate. In particular chapters are analyzed main issues which were important for the disarmament and also changing of American approach towards relationship with the Soviet Union.

Prison Privatization in the United States: The Limits and Consequences of the Transfer of Public Power into Private Hands

The thesis Prison Privatization in the United States: The Limits and Consequences of the Transfer of Public Power into Private Hands analyzes selected consequences of prison privatization in the United States. Although the prison privatization in the US is considered a modern phenomenon, the private sector was involved in corrections from the very early history of the US. Therefore, the thesis introduces the history and philosophy of private sector involvement in corrections. The thesis then examines the factors that led to the decision to privatize prisons, namely overcrowding of prisons, other political factors, and so-called PIE-program that enabled interstate trade with prisoner-made goods. Further, it provides detailed statistics to illustrate the steep rise in the prison population. It also addresses the question of cost-savings and efficiency and it provides examples of specific factors that influence economic performance of private prisons. Important part is dedicated to the growth of prison-industrial complex characterized by the overlapping interests of bureaucracy, politicians and private prison companies that lead to increased pressure to maintain or increase the prison population. Pivot to Asia: Case Study of American Democracy Promotion in Myanmar, 2011 - 2016

Promotion of democracy, a traditional tool of American foreign policy, was used also during Barack Obama's presidency through open dialogues and mutual cooperation also with non- democratic nations. The United States during Obama's administration renewed and connected diplomatic relations with countries that were overlooked by previous American administrations. This thesis is focusing on the foreign policy concept during Obama's second term, namely Pivot to Asia. Support of universal values and democracy was one of the central pillars of this policy. The main goal of this thesis is to argue if concentrated American presence and activity in 2011-2016 in Southeast Asia either supported democratic growth or led to democratic backsliding in the region. Specifically, Myanmar had gone through major political transformation since 2011. Ruling junta implemented reforms that opened up space for democratic opposition in the country and reduced sanctions and the policy of isolation from many Western states. Changes within Myanmar government in 2011-2016, American policy towards Myanmar, and normalization of American-Myanmar relations are three examples used in this case study that provides concrete approaches of American administration within Pivot to Asia.

Shell on Alaska: Road to sustainable development?

With ongoing climate change due to global warming the Arctic is opening up to oil companies. They have an unique opportunity to grow their proven oil reserves. In spite of rapid technological advancements in drilling techniques operating in the Arctic Ocean pose significant challenges. The aftermath of potential disastre would have in this pristine environment devastating consequences. Locals - native people of the Arctic - would be the first ones, who would be affected. This bachelor thesis is focusing on the activities of oil company Royal Dutch Shell on Alaskan outer continental shelf, and is analysing intertwining relationship of Shell and natives by multilevel approach to the theory of corporate social responsibility. Thesis researches their security policy, military power and activity in this disputable area. The result of this study that between Japan and China exist conflict about disputable Islands, but this conflict hasn't been probable in next years. The Formation of the Tea Party Movement

Tea Party affects American politics since 2009 when she began under the name of former revolutionary movement to fight government interventions with massive demonstrations. There was often incorrect expectation concerning Tea Party's potential in the first years of her activity. Tea Party supporters cannot be easily characterized, since a very differentiated group of Americans identifies itself with the movement, they come from a broad scale of social groups from Religious Right to libertarians or radical populists, which makes Tea Party an easy subject of criticism. Such criticism is often related to accusations of racism and rigid approach to social issues, to which contributed also certain Tea Party candidates. Nationwide political radicalization, which Tea Party allegedly caused up to a great extent, cannot be confirmed, though, radicalization can be discerned rather within the ideologically differentiated Congress. Although the elections of 2010 and 2012 brought a group of Tea Party supporters into the Congress, it wasn't such a significant success, as many of her protagonists expected.
