Co-operation and Competition between Czech Christian-Democratic Parties since 1989

Czech society is described as the least religious society in Europe. Its historic background does not predispose any explicitly Christian political party to gain more than limited electoral success. Nevertheless, the situation arose at the turn of 19th century, and again during the period 1989 to 1996, in which several Christian-democratic parties were competing in the Czech party-political spectrum. This dissertation focuses on the development of, and mutual relationships (cooperation and competition) between, the Czech Christian-democratic parties after the reestablishment of a multi-party political system in Czechoslovakia (or the Czech Republic) in 1989. The author of this dissertation questions if it is possible to consider the simultaneous existence of two Christian-democratic parties in the period 1989-1996 as a genuine manifestation of two representations of the same ideology within one partypolitical system. And if yes, then what were the reasons behind such heterogeneity within this Christian-democratic 'family' and why wasn't this heterogeneity resolved by the integration of these two parties? Polish party system and perspecitves of its stabilization afer the 2007 elections

Polský stranický systém je tvrdým oříškem, na kterém se vždy nemilosrdně testovaly všemožné politologické předpovědi a hypotézy. Ironicky řečeno, posledním a dosud jediným uspokojivým tvrzením týkajícím se podoby, vývoje a budoucích vyhlídek tohoto systému bylo převažující hodnocení z počátku 90. let. - polský stranický systém není konsolidován a je v pohybu. Od té doby se zhroutila optimistická vidina z poloviny 90. let, totiž že by Polsko mohlo směřovat ke stranické koncentraci, ústící v pravolevou bipolaritu, potažmo stabilitu a akceschopnost vlád. Zastánci volebního inženýrství v této souvislosti vkládali nemalé naděje do volební reformy z roku 19931. Nenaplnila se ani pozdější představa trvalejší dominance stabilní a konsolidované postkomunistické levice. Jestliže tedy existuje nějaká pravidelnost ve vývoji polské stranické politiky, pak snad jen vtom , jak nekompromisně a nesmlouvavě je každý takový "slibně" se rozvíjející trend vzápětí ukončen něčím neočekávaným. Platí tedy stále zmíněná teze z počátku 90. let? To by byl asi příliš snadný únik od badatelské otázky. Vždyť podle Sartoriho kritérií bychom mohli současné Polsko stěží klasifikovat jako atomizovaný pluralismus. The reform of the electoral system of the Czech Republic 1998-2000

The bachelor thesis "The Reform of the Electoral System of the Czech Republic 1998-2000" deals with the topic of electoral system change enacted in the framework of the ODS-ČSSD so-called "opposition agreement". The thesis focuses mainly on the aspect of electoral mechanism and the way how partial changes of this mechanism can influence overall outputs of the system. The first part of the thesis offers a basic characterization of proportional systems and explanation of important proportional system variables affecting final electoral outcomes. The second part concentrates on particular aspects of the electoral reform accepted within the opposition agreement. It describes circumstances leading to the decision of both ODS and ČSSD to change the electoral system. Also, it analyses the shape of the former electoral system and its changes which were subsequently performed. The last part centres on the constitutionality of the electoral reform and clarifies why the Constitutional Court ultimately declared it unconstitutional.

The tug of war? Premier - presidential domains in France during the period of cohabitation

The French Fifth Republic is described as a semi-presidential system. This type of democracy is the result of written constitution and of the political reality as well. Cohabitation belongs to one of the phenomenon of these daily political routines. It is a situation in which the President and the Prime Minister come from different and most often opposing political parties. This thesis pursues all three periods of cohabitation and focuses on the description of distribution of particular powers among the two head executives. In the same time the potential conflicts of such koexistence are analyzed.

Comparison of the Czech right parties: Civic Democratic Alliance and Christian Democratic Party in the early 1990s

Při úvaze o vývoji české politiky v pravé části lineární osy stranicko- politického kontinua jsme nutně konfrontováni s několika složitostmi. Zaprvé je nutné definovat, jak rozumíme vůbec pojmu "politická pravice". Tento pojem může být definován pozitivně, tj. jako politický proud, kladoucí důraz na tradici, obhajující dosavadní sociální diferenciaci a vládu elit, kladoucí důraz na vládu zákona, nezávislé soudy, tržní principy v ekonomické a princip rovnováhy sil v zahraničně- politické oblasti. Takovýto výklad by však byl nadmíru obecný1 a nezohlednil by podstatné vývojové distinkce, kterými pomyslný prostor z ideového i historického hlediska prošel za posledních 160 let. Tyto distinkce jsou pak dále podmíněny rovněž geograficky. Je tak možno k definici přistoupit i negativním způsobem a určit rozlišovací kritérium, na bázi kterého lze lépe vymezit rozdíl mezi politickou pravicí a politickou levicí.

The bachelor thesis "Consociational Democracy in Contemporary Perspective"pursues, as the name suggests the consociational democracy model. It attempts to make readers acquainted both with the theory and with some of the critique that has been made during four decades. Consociational democracy appears in 1960-ies as a rather narrow empirical model that was to explain stability in plural societies; it nevertheless radically changes and transfers itself in much more ambitious theory. This is recognized and described by the essay.

Czechoslovak transition to democracy from constitutional view

This thesis concentrates on the first phase of the Czechoslovak transition to democracy (1989-1990). It tries to describe the most important changes in the country's constitution which took place in this famous eventful period of Czechoslovak history. It starts with the description of the character of the communist state and law. After that, it takes closer look at the country's modern constitutional history. In the second part of the thesis, it is dealt with the evolvement of the Czechoslovak constitution after the fall of the communist regime. It tries to sketch the transformation of the parliament, government and presidency. Then, I represent the lustration laws and other problems connected with facing the country's past. My thesis ends with some notes on the most interesting findings.

Title: Analysis ofqualification system for biathlon world cup used in season 2007/2008 Author: Jiří Koubek Aims: The goal of this thesis is to clearly summarize the system development of the season 94/95 compared to the season 06/07. And to furthermore compare discussed proposals of the system with the current systems, to describe whether or not the new system fulfilled its purpose. In addition, to try, in the case ofmalfunction ofthe system based on the experience from past years and based on the new proposals, to fmd the solution of the form of the new system, which would be functional in full. Methods: Collection and analysis of the secondary data from official web sites IBU, documents from the agenda of technical committee of IBU and documents from European broadcasting union. Results: After the passed season evaluates positives and negatives of this system and evaluates the goals, from which the system originated, were fulfilled.
