A comparative analysis of Geography textbooks for children with hearing impairment, children with mild intellectual disability, and children at mainstream elementary schools

The thesis provides an analysis and comparison of Geography textbooks for children with hearing impairment, children with a mild intellectual disability and children in mainstream elementary schools. The aim of the thesis is to highlight the current state of Geography textbooks for children with hearing impairment and, by means of combining findings on deaf education and the didactics of Geography, suggest specific solutions for improving the quality of education of children with hearing impairment through raising the standard for didactic materials used for teaching. The introduction of the thesis explores the position of Geography as a field of study within the School and Framework Educational Programmes; the objectives of teaching Geography at the second stage of elementary school are examined in relation to the target groups whose the textbooks are analysed in this thesis. Communication development in children with autism spectrum disorder and cochlear implant

The thesis deals with the communication development in deaf children after cochlear implantation, which have at the same time diagnosed autism spectrum disorder. The theoretical part is divided into three chapters. First two chapters deal with specifics of hearing impairment, or rather autism spectrum disorder, and its effects on the overall development of the child with an emphasis on communication ability. There are briefly introduced the classification of hearing impairments and compensation aids related to the topic of the work - hearing aids and cochlear implants. There is also space devoted to the characteristics of particular autism spectrum disorders. The third chapter describes the most common communication systems or aids used by persons with hearing disabilities, more precisely with the autism spectrum disorder, and the possibility of communication of people with a combination of these two disabilities. The practical part of the thesis is devoted to qualitative research, which main objective was to find out how obtaining a cochlear implant may influence the development of communication of a deaf child with autism spectrum disorder. Job opportunities for persons with hearing impairments

The diploma thesis focuses on the employment of persons with hearing impairments. In the theoretical part, the introductory chapters pay attention to the terminological definition from the perspective of surdopaedia, classification of hearing impairments and the possibility of communication of persons with hearing impairments. Furthermore, the theoretical part is devoted to approaches to education and education systems for persons with hearing impairments. The thesis also describes the situation of employing persons with hearing impairment not only in the Czech Republic, but also in Germany, Slovakia and Great Britain. In the practical part, the situation of work of persons with hearing impairments is analyzed by means of a research survey, which has the character of mixed research. A structured interview for clients of the organization Silent world and a semi-structured questionnaire were used for the research investigation. The main aim of this thesis is to analyze the situation of work of persons with hearing impairment and possibilities of work of persons with hearing impairments in the Czech Republic, this goal is achieved by research investigation. Czech sing language comprehansion by students of secondary schools for the deaf

This diploma thesis deals with the education and communication of students with hearing impairment with a focus on the analysis of the level of understanding of information in sign language for students of special secondary schools for the hearing impaired. The theoretical part presents important concepts in this area, such as the definition of communication and communication options for the hearing impaired, as well as educational opportunities for the hearing impaired from a preschool level to a university and last but not least sign languages, their research in the world and Czech sign language as a native language of people with hearing impairment in the Czech Republic. The empirical part describes the research, which was conducted on 65 probands - high school students of the special school for students with a hearing impairment. The research is focused on the differences in the level of understanding of groups of students according to their identification data and also examined whether comprehension is affected by the complexity of the information transmitted (i.e. whether information at the level of ordinary conversation is better understood than a professional information). Phonemic awareness development of children with developmental speech disorders at logopedic

The topic of the thesis is Phonemic awareness development of children with developmental speech disorders at logopedic nursery school. The thesis is divided into theoretical and empirical part. Theoretical part contains three chapters. The first one is dealing with specifics of preschool age. This chapter contains the definition of preschool age, communication, ontogenetical speech development, hearing perception and preschool education. The second chapter is dealing with impaired speech development, particularly with delayed speech development and developmental dysphasia. There is also description of etiological factors, symptoms, diagnostics and therapy. The third chapter is focused on phonological and phonemic awareness. This part mentions diagnostical materials whit which is possible to evaluate phonemic awareness qualities. Then are mentioned materials and activities specified for development of phonemic awareness. Comparison of Sign Language Interpreters'Education Systems in the Czech Republic and the Great Britain

The bachelor thesis deals with the comparison of sign language interpreters' education systems in the Czech Republic and Great Britain. The objective is a comparison of possibilities, availability and quality of sign language interpreters' education in said countries. The thesis attempts to evaluate and define the main differences between the systems and subsequent submission of possible changes for the sign language education system in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part briefly describes the basic concepts and terminology in connection to hearing impairment that is relevant for the topic, the specifics of the Czech Sign Language, British Sign Language and International Sign as well as the comparison of sign language interpreters' education in the Czech Republic and Great Britain. The research part is processed by quantitative research, specifically in the form of an anonymous survey and concentrates on the analysis of the current situation through the eyes of the interpreters themselves. The thesis output is an evaluation of the survey together with the submission of proposals for possible modifications of the current czech sign language interpreters' educational system in the Czech Republic.
Problematic situations from the perspective of a teacher assistant in terms of his profession

An author of a diploma theses is interested in problematic situations of an assistant pedagogue's profession. The theses is devided in two parts- teoretical and practical. The teoretical part introduces to readers a czech education system and an inclusive education. Subsequent parts deal with an assistant's work, a personality and a cooperation with a school management, teachers, students with special needs and their parents. In this chapter we can find main problems of an origin of problematic situations. In last two chapters the author shows the most problematic situations and possibilities of a prevention against problematic situations even not just for the assistant. In the practical part there is a metodology and characterictics of the research. The author used the quality research especially the combination of a questionnaire and an interview. The main aim of the theses is to describe problematic situations of the assistant pedagogue's in his profession. The partial aim of the theses are: to find out the potential impact of the conflict on human health and suggest solution how to prevent problematic situations in assistants' job. Theory of mind in preschool cochlear implant users

This thesis deals with theory of mind in preschool cochlear implant users. The theoretical part introduces topics: hearing impairment in childhood, cochlear implantation, theory of mind in preschool children and development of preschool children. All these topics are processed with regard to the issue of children using cochlear implant (or implants). In addition to general information, the thesis focuses mainly on the results of current foreign researches concentrating on children using cochlear implants. The empirical part summarizes the research of theory of mind in Czech preschool cochlear implant users. Thirty-one children in total participated in this research, eleven cochlear implant users, and twenty intact children in the control group. Theory of mind has been tested by similar desires task, dissimilar desires task, Smarties task, and Sally-Ann task. In addition, a short questionnaire was distributed to the parents of cochlear implant users. In order to assess competences in the Czech language, the cochlear implant users were given Vocabulary test from test battery of Seidlová-Málková and Smolík (2014). On the basis of the results of this research, it can be concluded that theory of mind is delayed in Czech preschool cochlear implant users in contrast to their hearing peers. These results...
The use of modern technological aids for the development of spoken speech at childern with severve hearing impairment.

This thesis is concerned with aids intended for the speech development of children with hearing impairment. The theoretical part summarizes the subject matter of hearing impairment, the possibilities of compensatory aids, speech development, speech therapy intervention and aids helping the speech development of people with hearing impairment. The theoretical part is mostly dedicated to the Speech Viewer aid, which has inspired the development of the new Hlásek application, which originated as a part of the inter-university cooperation of Charles University and ČVUT in Prague within working on two diploma theses. The introduction of the empirical part of the thesis describes the created application and with the use of gathering and analysis of data, interviews and observation, it follows the contribution of the application to the development of basic features of speech of children with hearing impairment. The results of the empirical investigation are processed with the help of graphs and thus they clearly represent the advances of the children in individual parts of the application. The conclusion of the thesis is dedicated to the future development of the application and the establishment of further possible cooperation with Children's Hearing Centre Tamtam.
