It is also an alternative for seniors without family. The current project will focus on a specific senior home (called Delta Senior Home for the purpose of anonymity) and on the strategies of...

Prokešová, Linda ; Sokolová, Věra (advisor) ; Kolářová, Kateřina (referee)
This thesis focuses on the interpretation of trans people's experience in heteronormative public space. The empirical part was realized through semi-strucuted interviews. This part examines communicative partners' actual experience with displays of physical and verbal abuse, their perception of sexism, sexistic advertising and the current beauty ideal, together with their personal feelings of safety or anxiety in the public space. The theoretical part defines basic terms and concepts on which the work is based. I deal with the question of heteronormativity and its impact on negotiation of non-heterosexual identities in a given space. I work with the concept of sexuality as a regulatory and supervisory mechanism of the society. Further on, I explain the conceptualization of transsexuality in the Czech medical and socio-legal discourse and introduce the limits posed by medicinal conception of transsexuality from the gender perspective.

Voráčková, Barbora ; Havelková, Tereza (advisor) ; Kolářová, Kateřina (referee)
This BA thesis aims to inform Czech musicological circles about the current theoretical debate on female voice. Employing the method of close reading, the author introduces selected texts and reflections on the female voice, using phenomenology, feminist theory or psychoanalysis as a theoretical background. Last, but not least, the thesis provides an impetus to think about female voice in the context of contemporary music, which, with its frequent use of vocalisation without lyrics, is especially pertinent to the aforementioned debate. The Biomedical Construction of "Health"
Nová, Nikola ; Kolářová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Kiczková, Zuzana (referee)
Nikola Žáková The Biomedical Construction of "Health" Thesis Prague 2014 ABSTRACT This thesis focuses on the analysis of biomedical categories of "health", "illness" and "prevention". The aim is to determine how these categories are used in two case studies - "diabethes melitus 2" and "hepatitis B, C" - in the periods 1989-1990, 1995-1996, 2002-2003 , 2006-2007. "Health" is currently conceived as a "norm" that we should strive to meet. Through categories of "health", "disease", "prevention" and through the action of the discourse of risk and individual responsibility (for health of ourself and also for the health of the entire community), is desribed how the normative social expectations about health are shaped in the medical articles. We constantly monitor our health and we manage our behavior according to the potential "risks". This thesis examines how the institution of medicine influences the lives of individuals in society, on the basis of content analysis and discourse analysis of case studies from the renowned medical journal Časopis lékařů českých. Keywords: health, disease, prevention, risk, biopower, (self)disciplining
