This bachelor thesis has two basic parts. The first part sets to produce a function translation. The basic literature which is the most important for this thesis is the Art of Translation by Jiří Levý. The reason is the fact that my translation method is based on this book. The second part of this bachelor thesis is the commentary to this translation. It is well known that the bachelor thesis is not able to mention all problems which we can meet in a translation. Jaromír Povejšil as a translator

This master's thesis is dedicated to the personality and work of the Czech linguist and translator Jaromir Povejsil, with an emphasis on his translation career. The thesis has a theoretical-empirical character. It contributes to the history of translation and translation criticism. The thesis contains a biography of Jaromir Povejsil, a chronological overview of his original works in the area of linguistics and a complete list of his translations from German language as well as translations from Czech to German. Jaromir Povejsil covered a wide range of topics in his field of study. He concentrated on the development of Prague-German language, contrastive Czech-German grammar, Czech-German bilingualism, the Old Czech language, literary science and literary history. He is the author of more than a hundred papers as well as the author of two monographs Das Prager Deutsch des 17. und 18. Jahrhunderts and Mluvnice soucasne nemCiny. He dedicated himself to field of literary translation and the translation of technical books and non-fiction. Altogether, he translated twenty-four books from German to Czech, out of which fourteen were fiction, mainly from authors from the second-half of the twentieth century. He also translated the oldest work of German artistic prose, the Middle Ages poem Der Ackermann aus Bohmen....

The subject of this thesis is a commented translation of the second chapter of the biographical book Franz Liszt. Biographie eines Superstars, written by the German author Oliver Hilmes. The thesis consists of two main parts - a translation and a commentary divided into several chapters. The aim of the first part is to create a functionally equivalent translation and fulfill the intention of the author, taking into account the expectations of recipients. The subsequent commentary includes a translation analysis of the original text based on the model of Christiane Nord, a description of the translation method and translation procedures, and also a typology of translation problems at different textual levels, including their solutions. The last chapter deals with translation shifts.

On Collocation Problems in Adjective Entries. Problematic Cases in the Large German-Czech Academic Dictionary

The aim of the given work was to point out the problems of the collocability of german adjectives in dictionaries and on the basis of the executed analysis to suggest possible solutions which could be exploited in the entries. The primary information sources were the german dictionary Duden and the german-czech dictionary Siebenschein, the secondary ones were the internet corpus DeReKo and the web search engine Google. The dictionary collocations should not be chosen by the criterion of their quantity, but by the criterion of their usefulness. They should exemplify the differences between both languages and they should be used as the assure instance for the dictionary user.

Systemic and Translation Equivalents of German Adjectives Ending on -frei and -los

This thesis uses language corpora to analyze Czech translations of a linguistically asymmetric phenomenon of German privatives ending in -frei and -los from three perspectives: translation typology (micro-stylistics and macro-stylistics), Popovič's stylistic adequacy (shifts of expression: intensification of expression, attenuation of expression, correspondence of expression) and potentially intrinsic feature of German privatives to perceive the fact of absence ("privation") as positive or negative. Privatives are adjectives that express the absence of substance or quality that is represented in their first (left) component; in the context of this work they are limited to adjectives ending in -frei, -los, -arm and -leer. In the Introduction the current state of research is outlined and its time and local limitations are explained. It is emphasized that corpus is here used not just for translation as such but also for theory of translation. The hypothesis starts from the assumption that German privatives as phenomena of grammar have no equivalent on this level in Czech; therefore a direct translation equivalent is often missing. For this reason it is also probable that the translator will have to decide for such Czech translation of one German privative that comprises more words or even a whole...

This bachelor thesis consists of a translation from German into Czech, an expert commentary and an attachment - the original text. The commentary has four parts: translation analysis according to Christiane Nord, description of the translation method I chose for my translation, solutions of translation problems in the area of lexis, syntax, stylistics and pragmatics and the same typology of the shifts I have done during translating. The aim of the thesis is to present some articles of GEOEPOCHE and, at the same time, to show possibilities of working with a translated text and to solve translation problems so that they do not sound inappropriate in the final translation. Annotated translation: Erstes Buch - Die Waffen nieder! by Bertha von Suttner

The aim of this Master Thesis is to present an annotated translation of the first chapter of the novel Die Waffen nieder! (1889) from Bertha von Suttner that is presently functional. The novel was already translated under the title Odzbrojte! (1896). The first part of this Master Thesis contains the Czech translation of the first chapter from the novel itself. The second part, which is a translation commentary, divided into subchapters. The beginning of the translation commentary explains the choice of the original text and presents a detailed translation analysis. The next part of the translation commentary contains information about the strategy of solving translation problems, translation shifts and collaborative translation. Marketing translation between German and Czech on the example of a promotional magazine

This diploma thesis deals with marketing translation from German to Czech. The aim was to analyse several articles from a promotional magazine in order to prove whether the translation process of these articles meets the requirements of transcreation and whether these articles are adapted to the needs of Czech customers and market. The thesis consists of two parts. The theoretical part deals with the language of advertising in both German and Czech and also with the terms adaptation, localization and transcreation within translation studies. The empirical part contains an interview with an employee of the company which distributes the analysed promotional magazine, and an analysis of the articles based on the model of Katharina Reiß. The results show that according to the criteria based on the work of Daniel Pedersen and Nina Sattler-Hovdar, the translation process of these articles can be considered as transcreation. Both the interview and the analysis also prove that an adaptation to the needs of Czech customers and market takes place, even though to a lesser extent than expected.

Classification of Edit Categories in Machine Translation Post-Editing: English-Czech Language Combination

Today, a translation job does not only mean transferring content from one language to another by utilizing one's own knowledge of two languages and subject matter expertise. Today, translation often means working with suggestions from various resources, including machine translation. The popularity of machine translation post-editing (MTPE) as a form of translation is growing. That is why this sklil should be acquired by translation students prior to entering the market. In order to work with machine translation efficiently, not only knowledge of the basic principles of how machine translation engines and translation technology work is needed, but also being able to assess the relevance of each linguistic edit with regards to the assigned instructions and purpose of the translated text. The aim of this master's thesis is to analyze linguistic edits carried out during an MTPE job from English to Czech.
