Viewers of Herbář, TV program popularizing alternative lifestyle
Gajdová, Jana ; Reifová, Irena (advisor) ; Jansa, Petra (referee)
The topic of my thesis is the audience of Herbář, a programme broadcast by Czech Television since 2013, which popularises alternative lifestyles characterised by conscious consumer tactics. These tactics include, for example, certain forms of local food activism based on the ideas of the Slow Food movement, the application of certain DIY practices, the pursuit of partial food self-sufficiency, or an individual's efforts to minimize the negative impact of their actions on the state of the environment. The TV programme Herbář is a lifestyle show that features elements of TV food tourism focused on the countryside and traditions. It is a specific form of eco-reality television, using the emotional identification of the viewer with the presenter, which occurs through the chosen way of moderating the programme, and dramatisation, using images of idealised rural and simple lifestyles. I first introduce the reader to the related themes in order to place my work in a clear context. I will then attempt to answer who the audience of Herbář is, what are the possible audience attitudes towards the programme and related themes, and how these audience attitudes are reflected in the lifestyles of individual viewers. I will attempt to answer these questions through a simultaneous triangulation of qualitative and...
Media Image of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict in 2021
Ratner, Tomáš ; Jansa, Petra (advisor) ; Kotoučová, Ditta (referee)
The bachelor thesis studies the media image of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Czech media in 2021. The Defender of the Walls / The Sword of Jerusalem is the name of the armed conflict that took place in the territory of Israel and the Palestinian Authority in May 2021. Although it is the same armed conflict, the two opposing sides call it differently, namely Defender of the Wall by Israel and Sword of Jerusalem by the Palestinian Authority. The media image of the conflict may be similar - same conflict, different media interpretation. Therefore, the aim of the bachelor thesis is to find the frames through which Czech online newspapers (Aktuálně.cz and Novinky.cz) reported on the conflict. First, however, the theoretical part of the thesis introduces how the media construct reality and how framing actually works. Along with this, the theoretical part mentions the existing research on the framing of the Israeli- Palestinian conflict or a search of existing knowledge. The thesis then provides insight into the historical and current context of the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, which is central to the orientation of the issue. The following research section uses qualitative content analysis to identify the frames that are present in the media casts. The research results...

In the case of the analysed Instagram posts, the Ministry most frequently addressed hygiene and anti-epidemic measures, the level of risk of contagion in the Czech Republic and the publication of relevant information and contacts providing relevant information. Posts without an appeal and emotional framework were the most frequently published.
"Guilty pleasures": The tension between the pleasure from popular culture and good taste
Ružičková, Judita ; Reifová, Irena (advisor) ; Jansa, Petra (referee)
This Master's thesis deals with the phenomenon of so-called guilty pleasures within the consumption of popular culture. The theoretical basis of this work consists of three thematic pillars. Specifically: concepts related to the consumption of popular culture by authors such as Fiske and Ang; a distinction based on taste and cultural consumption, in particular by Bourdieu, Peterson and Holt; and a set of theoretical-critical views on the very concept of guilty pleasure. However, this complex combination of (not only) pleasure and guilt is still just gaining more academic attention. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to contribute to the understanding of this phenomenon, through individual interviews with consumers characterized by both high cultural capital and a wide range of preferences, known as cultural omnivory. Within those consumers, the contrast of low and high taste, the presumed clash of acceptance of legitimized aesthetic rules and their violation, are present. The research question "How do cultural omnivores with a high cultural capital perceive the consumption of products of popular culture - especially those which they consider their guilty pleasures?" is answered through thematic analysis of coded interviews.

Bílá, Anja ; Reifová, Irena (advisor) ; Jansa, Petra (referee)
The basis of the agenda-setting theory is the fact that the topics that are emphasized in the media are becoming important for their audience as well. The widespread notion is that those who set the agenda are the media. However, this is not entirely true. The media only allow news to spread quickly, they are not the authors of the topics.
