Phraseology updates in the contemporary Czech language

The paper is titled: Phraseology updates in the contemporary Czech language The aim of this paper is to collect and describe phraseological updates. The collection of materials (resources) took place from January 2013 to June 2015. Updates were sought out from various sources - the media, books, the theater, the internet and landline calls. With the help of professional literature we first limited the theoretical framework of the issue and based on these theoretical attainments we classified the material according to the sources and types of resources from which it originated. In the summary of updates we can see for every idiom update its original version, its type of update, its specific description and its source with a comment specifying its occurrence etc. With the performed analysis we determined that the most common kinds of updates are contamination and lexical updates.

Linguistic analysis of Pride and Prejudice Translations

The purpose of this diploma thesis is to show insufficiencies and mistakes in three post- war translations (by Božena Šimková, Eva Kondrysová and Eva Ruxová) of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. The thesis focuses on the translations and reception of Jane Austen's work, analysis of the first sentence of the whole novel (which is crucial for its understanding) and the issue of the translation of propria, toponyms, cultural facts, humour and irony, adaptation of social roles names, phraseology. The main part of the bachelor thesis is comparison of the translations of British cultural facts of the 18th and 19th century, the forms of expressing humour and irony and translation of chosen phraseologisms or idioms. Their misinterpretation could cause severe misunderstanding.

Bachelor thesis describes the problems of translation experience which are then specified and analyzed in text translation of the novel The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. It focuses mainly on proper names, anagrams, puzzles, riddles and puns, substitutions, terms, idioms, neologisms, supplemented by information beyond the original, omissions from original text, units conversions, cultural differences, formality and informality and last but not least, the mistakes in translation.

Linguistic Representation of the National Stereotypes in Czech Media and the Application of Cognitive Aspects in teaching Czech

Résumé This thesis under the title Linguistic Representation of National Stereotypes in Czech Media and the Application of Cognitive Aspects in Teaching Czech deals with which national stereotypes (about Romani, Vietnamese and Russians) are present in the samples selected from Czech media and how these stereotypes are linguistically represented. The paper is based on the presumption that despite the principle of political correctness present in most of the journalists' code of ethics, it is not possible to avoid some manifestations of shared fixed images of nationalities (called stereotypes) in media. Furthermore, we argue that the media image of the world is based on the Linguistic Image of the World. The theoretical basis of the cognitive linguistics, especially the Prototype/Stereotype Theory and categorization as the way of understanding and assorting the world, were the main methodological sources. There is a chapter on each analysed national group that depicts the means of its categorization and lists the particular categories that ensued from the analysis, as well as the stereotypes that were discovered in the surveyed sample. Media manipulation at primary school and defence against it

This diploma thesis engage in the manipulation aimed at primary school children, especially manipulation of commercial and its effect on the child recipient. The theoretical part of thesis defines terms manipulation, media and advertisement, as well as media education in the current curriculum, in the general educational program and in the textbooks for 1st primary schools. The empirical part of thesis is divided into the methodical unit and experimental unit. The methodical unit describes the implemented project for advertisement and defense against media manipulation. Observations took place during the project, the results of this observation are described in the experimental unit. It is included questionnaire survey and its analysis. The last part of this thesis is concept of methodics, which outlines strategies to help prevent the possible manipulation.

Challenges in Promotional Texts The goal of this thesis is to provide a comprehensive analysis of challenges in commercial advertisements. It will analyze texts of printed, television and internet advertisements. The thesis will examine what approaches are used in marketing campaigns to challenge to the recipient's emotions as well as what social values are used for the challenges to be effective. There search will be based especially on stylistic and content analysis.

Sample new religious movements' texts linguistic analysis (aimed at manipulation)

In this diploma thesis the verbal persuasive devices typical of two new religious movements' texts (Jehovah's Witnesses and New Age) have been analysed, with regard to manipulation. Because of the interdisciplinary character of manipulation religion and sociological aspects in new religious movements section and logical, psychological and ethical aspects in manipulative argumentation section have been considered. It was found that the style of the analysed texts and its verbal persuasive devices differ from the field of religious communication only in few aspects from verbal persuasive devices of journalistic communication and that manipulative devices are partly acceptable with regard to the sources and methods involved in the texts, however, the field of quasiargumentation have been found outside acceptability.

Particularity of the computer mediated communication on social networks

The diploma thesis is concentrated on the computer mediated communication going on the social networks Facebook and Twitter. The aim of the thesis was to find a to descript the specific features of computer mediated communication, both comparison of the two social networks according to different text types. Among the studied features dominated a group of features, which express emotions (emoticons, acronyms, capital letters, multiplier punctuation marks and letters, interjection, vulgar). This strongly contribute to the spontaneous nature of computer mediated communication.

Language of Tabloids in the First Czechoslovak Republic

The aim of this work is to describe the language of several important tabloids in the First Czechoslovak Republic. Firstly, sensationalist journalism is defined by different criteria and is distinguished from serious journalism. The development of sensationalist journalism in Czech lands is outlined and the press in the First Czechoslovak Republic is characterized. Then, selected tabloids are characterized and evaluated according to the defined criteria of tabloids. Language in journalistic texts is put into broader context of journalistic style and is considered on the basis of the influences that affect the choice of the specific language means. One chapter is devoted to formal and language aspects of headlines of the tabloids. The headlines are described on lexical level, morphological level and syntactic level. The language of the tabloids itself is analyzed on the same levels, on the lexical, morphological and syntactic level. The tabloid press in the First Czechoslovak Republic is compared to contemporary tabloid press and some tendencies of the development of the tabloid press are outlined.
