Comparison of media image of Roma and Ukrainians in tabloids

This text deals with a media image of two large minorities in The Czech Republic. It is contribution to wide history of research that deals with question, how media construct and present minorities or foreigners. The author explores the media image of Roma/Gypsies and Ukrainians in Czech tabloids, because it is a specific segment of a media world. The text argues, that presenting of minorities could be different despite researches arguing that it is often negative and stereotypical. This analysis show differences between presenting two minorities and it pays attention to contexts and stereotypes. The author deals with stigmatization stylistic form of tabloid too. About these minorities is significant that both are stigmatized and unheeded while they have a different civil status and a color of skin.

The thesis "Gender as a factor that influences everyday interactions" deals with human behaviour in common situations in public places. I focused on a bus as a city means of transport, especially in the places where people interact to define their personal areas. As a research method I used ethnographic semisystematic nonparticipant observation and worked with gender and age as the main factors.

Bachelor's thesis "Corporal punishment in upbringing - The comparative survey of boys and their parents" deals with perception of corporal punishment by parents and children. The aim of this thesis is to discover if the number, sex of children or just personal experience of parents can influence corporal pusnishment. This thesis is devided into two parts- the teoretical one and the empirical one. In the theoretical part there are defined basic notion and presented principal researches on this topic. In the empirical part you can find my own qualitative research.

Ashrams in the Czech Republic: expansion or fighting for survival?

The bachelor work "Ashrams in the Czech Republic: expansion or fighting for survival?" is about ashrams in the Czech Republic which are defined as spiritual centers with origin in Hinduism religion- social system. The article is based on qualitative research based on qualitative interviews. The first part of the article includes some sociological views on religion and surveys a position of religion in west and Czech society. The second part describes the phenomena of ashrams, which act as places for physical and mental rest and offer suitable conditions for personal spiritual progress. Ashrams work under non- profit- organizations. The personality of guru played an important role when founding ashrams. Guru represents hinduistic, yogic or buddhistic style of life. The article is finding common characterizations to all ashrams and inspects reasons for their existence in the Czech Republic. That is to offer an alternative way of life to the modern one in our society. The article is making an effort to find an evolution curve common to all ashrams. The work tries to find out whether ashrams intend to expand and spread their ideology or they just exist with no such purpose.

Boys in social media: perspective of gender identity

This bachelor's thesis deals with the topic of boys on social media. It focuses mainly on gender aspects of this phenomenon. Based on a research and study of professional literature, and a qualitative method of in-depth interviews, it points out certain problems in the process of creating one's own identity, and explains aspects of this phenomenon. In-depth interviews establish if there is a certain relationship between the creation of one's own identity and gender in both online and offline environments, and whether these two types of identities intersect. The findings are explained on the basis of citations and categories exerted from conducted interviews with the respondents.

A., PgDip Res, PhD Abstract Resilience has become a buzzword in policy and practice of 'securing' and 'developing' cities and urban populations. This study discusses the use of this concept in the context of governance of subjectivities. More specifically, reflecting its empirical focus, it poses critical questions about constructing and promoting 'urban resilience subjects', and scrutinizes the process of internalization of resilience as a self-governance technique, self-imposed on and by citizens for their own good. The purpose is to problematize resilience as a universal tool or strategy to govern cities and their inhabitants, be it in ordinary or extreme circumstances. The study ventures beyond the traditional critique of neoliberalism to ask questions about what resilience does in terms of a performative governance, exploring the disciplinary and biopolitical nature of this process. Analysis of the Internet Discussions According to Goffman's Theory of Focused Interaction

This bachelor thesis examines the phenomenon of internet discussions on Facebook. The starting theoretical framework for the thesis is Erving Goffman's focused interaction and the principles of fun in games theory in terms of focused interaction. The aim of this study is to find out whether the elements of fun occur in the researched environment and what form they take up. Research units were specified as discussions on the official Facebook websites of chosen online news portals. These discussions are embodied in the comments section below shared political article. 70 research units were subjected to conversation analysis. The results of the analysis show that most of the examined internet discussions can be determined as focused interaction and the elements of the game are strongly present in the discussions. The real situation in a virtual environment, however, differs from the way game elements manifest themselves in the face-to-face interaction, in which Goffman defined the concept of focused interaction originally. This work also deals with the situation of the participants leaving the interaction.
