Language Propedeutic. How does the Packaging of Goods Speak?

Title: Error in the point of view of the French as a second foreign language in the lower secondary school context Author: Mgr. Tomáš Klinka Department: Department of Pedagogy Supervisor: Doc. PhDr. Marie Fenclová, CSc. Abstract: This thesis focuses on the subject of error in the context of Czech lower secondary school and second foreign language (L3) instruction. This work has three purposes: first, to complete the basic literature in this domain using the publications issued from the French speaking world of educational research that are not quoted in the Czech academic field. Second, to analyze how the elements that intervene in the pedagogical process treat the question of error, and third, using the conclusions obtained, to make explicit the problems which pose the present treatment of the question of error and to indicate the direction of a future research in this domain. So as to attain the first goal, we propose and comment the work of some French specialists in the field of educational science and their conclusions, mainly the typology of errors created by Astolfi. As for the second goal, our thesis provides an analysis of the official regulations concerning teaching and learning in the Czech Republic, exposes the mental representations of error with which both students and teachers...

Kovářová, Dominika ; Fenclová, Marie (advisor) ; Machová, Svatava (referee) ; Vacková, Alena (referee)
T h i s d o c t o r a l t h e s i s e n t i t l e d NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION IN FRENCH LANGUAGE TEACHING is conceived as a pedagogical study. Its title anticipates the topic of our investigation (nonverbal communication) as well as the domain of our interest (foreign language teaching). There is a large body of research on nonverbal communication across a number of disciplines including anthropology, communications, psychology, sociology and child development. However, to date there has been comparatively little investigation of nonverbal communication within applied linguistics and foreign language acquisition. The purpose of this doctoral thesis is to present the large range of nonverbal communication and also its applications in French language teaching. The study is divided into three main parts and has several objectives.
Use of International Internet Projects in Foreign Language Learning/Teaching (with special focus on learning/teaching French as a foreign language and on the European activity eTwinning)
Lexical Gallicisms in Russian Language and Possibilities of Their Use in Teaching Russian as Second and Another Foreign Language
Vicaire, Xenie ; Fenclová, Marie (advisor) ; Rozboudová, Lenka (referee) ; Hoskovec, Tomáš (referee)
This thesis focuses on lexical Gallicisms in the frame of borrowings from foreign languages to the Russian lexicon. Based on the current state of the art in linguistics and linguodidactics we are assessing lexical Gallicisms in terms of their effective use in Russian didactics as a second or another foreign language. For this reason our work investigates the occurrence of lexical Gallicisms and their forms of presentation as well as their current application within textbooks of Russian language used in primary and secondary schools. We also question to what extent the work with semantic loans is actually reflected within textbooks used in the Czech education system. Our research integrates as well a panel of teachers feed-back on their experience and readiness regarding the possibilities of using semantic loans and internationalisms to broaden students vocabulary. The purpose of the empirical part of the thesis is the verification of the effectiveness of the developed worksheets related to selected subjects covered by textbooks under review that are regarded as representative in terms of lexical Gallicisms. We conclude that the current policies for teaching foreign languages in EU member states, namely in the Czech education system, do not yet take full advantage of the plurilingual language...

Pronunciation problems of Czech French-learning students and the effectiveness of learning strategies applied by the students of Faculty of Education, Charles University and Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, University of West Bohemia AUTHOR: PhDr. Kateřina Juřičková DEPARTMENT: Department of French Language and Literature, Charles University TUTOR: doc. PhDr. Marie Fenclová, CSc. This PhD thesis - a comparative study - deals on the segmental level with vowels which Czech French-learning speakers find difficult to pronounce and on the suprasegmental level with prosodic factors. On the former level, closed vowels both labialized and sharp, nasal vowels, schwa and semi-vowels are analysed. The first, theoretical part of the paper contains the phonetic and phonological characteristics of the Czech language and the French language from the viewpoint of vocalic systems of these languages and from the viewpoint of melody-prosody interaction. The second, experimental part, contains descriptions of the pre- research single phase observation of problematic phenomena obtained from three groups of students of KFJL (Department of French Language and Literature; Faculty of Education - Charles University), and findings from the research proper from two-phase observations of two groups of students of KFJL and...
