Evidence-based practice in the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers in intensive care patients

Pressure ulcers are one of the quality indicators of nursing care, their presence reduces the quality of life of the patient, leads to a prolongation of hospitalization, increases costs of care and affects the budget of a health care facility. European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel or the European Advisory Board on issues of bedsores (EPUAP) leads and supports all European countries in their efforts to prevent and treat pressure sores. EPUAP working group has developed guidelines for the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers. One of the important factors in providing the highest quality of nursing care is the ability of nurses to practically use the research results in the nursing process. This thesis deals with the effective use of the latest advances in the prevention of pressure sores and their treatment in the intensive care in Czech Republic. Motivational and demotivational factors in the profession of a general nurse

This thesis discusses the motivational and demotivational factors that influence the work of nurses and their sense of satisfaction. The aim of the research is to map the motivational and demotivational factors that affect work performance of the Kolin Regional Hospital. The research's chose quantitative method was done by survey. The questionaire and it's contents were prepared by the author. The creation of the questionaire was based upon several similar surveys. Based on the author's research, it was found that interpersonal relationships among nurses were among the most powerful motivational factors; conversely, dysfunctional interpersonal relationships were the strongest motivational factors for changing employers. Another one of the strongest motivational factors was positive feedback from the patients. Since the research was quantitative in nature and covered the entire hospital, it is the author's opinion that the study should be repeated periodically and further focus on individual departments to better determine motivational and demotivational factors that affect work performance and overall job satisfaction. Motivation of nurses for working in institutions specialized in care of clients with Alzheimer's disease

Background: This thesis deals with motivation of nurses to work in facilities providing care for clients diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Caring for a client who is suffering from Alzheimer's disease is very mentally challenging. Therefore, in this environment is very important motivation of nurses who provide care to clients every day. The theoretical part is focused on mapping the issues of Alzheimer's and the specifics of care for clients who have suffered from this disease. Then there are areas of motivation, work motivation and job satisfaction. Finally, it is discussed the topic of helping syndrome and mental demands of the nursing profession. Nursing care of patients after a surgical procedure for a narrowed carotid artery

Abstract Surgeries of narrowed carotid arteries rank among the most common vascular medical procedures. Narrowing the carotid artery on the basis of creation of an atherosclerotic plaque is also the most common cause of stroke. It causes an insufficient blood flow to certain parts of the brain and can cause damage and lead to irreversible changes. This disease belongs among the lifestyle ones, involving a number of both controllable and uncontrollable risk factors. Prevention and timely operational and quality postoperative care are very important; the latter helps prevent fatal consequences leading to permanent disability. The aim of my thesis is to demonstrate nursing care for patients after the surgery of a narrowed carotid artery. The empirical section is based on qualitative research in the form of two case studies which describe the postoperative state of health and its progress. I point out the specifics of the nursing care for patients after the surgery of narrowed carotid artery in detail. The result of the bachelor's thesis is an overview of postoperative care which is beneficial for both general nurses and patients themselves. Practicing Nurses' View Of Nursing Students In The Context Of Clinical Practicum

Irreplaceable role in preparing students for the future careers have nurses, who are accompanies their future colleagues during the teaching of nursing procedures and in adopting a role of nurse. The bachelor work deals with evaluations of qualified nurses of nursing students in the context of clinical practice. The basic research target is the expectation of the qualified nurses to the nursing students. There are sectional research targets and questions, which maps the strategies, which qualified nurses use for easier collaborate with nursing students in the context of nursing practice; identified nurse's ways and areas, which they used for evaluation of nursing students; analysed the nurse's opinion for independence of nursing students; evaluated the reaction of nurses for innovation, which are the part of the lessons of nursing students; analysed competence and characteristics, which nurses assume for their ideal of "good nurse". adaptation process of nurses working in intensive care unit

The aim of this thesis is to study the adaptation process in the intensive care units. The theoretical section analysed the adaptation process of nurses with particular focus on methodical instructions, legislation and other specific aspects of the adaptation process, including necessary education for the ICU nurses. The aim of the practical section was to examine, whether the adaptation processes are done properly and are long enough. We focused not only on the point of view of the management, but also on the feedback from the new employees. A survey was done among the employees of accredited and non-accredited healthcare facilities. By the evaluation of our data, we have managed to accept or deny various hypotheses that were included in our work. Our survey has shown that both executive nurses and new employees think the adaptation process usually proceeds correctly and thoroughly and they do not want to make any changes. Our data have also been used to compare adaptation processes of accredited and non-accredited healthcare facilities. Based on the data from our survey, we have been able to determine, that the adaptation process is significantly better at facilities which are accredited. On the contrary, the nurses working in non-accredited facilities are less satisfied and would welcome changes...
The Assessment of Pain by a Nurse and the Control of Post-operative Pain

This diploma work is focused on post-surgical pain. It lays out the role of a nurse in pain assessment, factors influencing post-surgical pain and ways of its controlling. It also publishes the results of the research organized in the surgical fields of the Central Military Hospital Prague in January and February 2006. The work is structured into two large parts, theoretical and empirical one. The diploma work underlines the importance of the team cooperation of all those who participate in pain management and in individualized complex nursing care for a patient in the past-surgical time period.
Self-assessment of knowledge of nurses and paramedics in the area of monitoring and interpretation of ECG waveforms in ICU and anesthesiology resuscitation department.

This diploma thesis is focused on self-evaluation of knowledge of nurses in intensive care and rescue workers' working at ICU and AIC in area of monitoring and interpretation of ECG. The aim of this diploma thesis was to map how nurse in intensive care and rescue workers evaluate themselves in issue of ECG, at what level are their knowledge and abilities to be able to discribe what strategies were contributive for gaining knowledge and what motivation did they have and what barriers they had to face. Quantitative research took place by means of anonymous questionnaire survey. In total, there were 120 respondents from population of nurses in intensive care and rescue workers working at ICU and AIC. As emerged from the questionnaire survey, nurses in intensive care and rescue workers who were included in this survey, evaluate their ECG knowledge on average. Those who passed certificated course of ECG evaluate themselves above average. Respondets said that they must be able to evaluate ECG curvve in their job and it belongs to their competence. Practical use of the document "The Adaptation Process Plan for Nurses in Intensive Care Unit" in the Czech Republic and its comparison with the practice in the United Kingdom

The Adaptation Process Plan document should serve as a tool for ensuring that the adaptation process of a new employee to an intensive care unit is properly led. It is also supposed to help with feedback and evaluation of the level of the newcomer's skills. The main goal of this thesis was to find out how effectively the Adaptation Process Plan document is currently used for nurses in intensive care units in the Czech Republic. We furthermore aimed to ascertain how the plans are filled in, whether their individual parts are filled in on a regular basis, as well as whether the parts which have been graded as insufficient are explained again to the employee. Last but not least, we tried to compare how the document is used in the Czech Republic and in the United Kingdom. The qualitative research was carried out by interviewing three nurses who have completed the adaptation process to intensive care units - one in the United Kingdom and two in the Czech Republic. The results show that according to our research group, the Adaptation Process Plan document is not effectively used in the Czech Republic, especially in comparison with the United Kingdom.
