This bachelor's thesis aims to provide an annotated translation of two chapters from the book Historia Secreta de Chile written by the Chilean writer Jorge Baradit, which focuse on the Augusto Pinochet regime. The first, practical part of the thesis consists of the translated text. The second part presents a theoretical analysis of the source Spanish text and annotation of the translated Czech text. The theoretical part opens with general information about the source text and a selection of a hypothetical translation assignment, which is followed by the source analysis and the description of translation methods and procedures, including translation problems and their solutions. Translations of Czech Literature in Mexico and Translations of Mexican Literature into Czech

Rigorózní translatologicko-historiografická práce představuje korpus překladů české literatury vydaných v knižní podobě v Mexiku do roku 2019 včetně, věnuje se jeho popisu a studiu v širším socio-kulturním a nakladatelském kontextu. Práce se snaží odpovědět na otázky jaká česká literatura byla v Mexiku vydána, kdy, kde a proč byla přeložena a kdo je autorem překladů. Teoretická část práce představuje česko-mexické vztahy na pozadí sociokulturního a literárního polysystému obou zemí se zaměřením na 20. století. Dále se práce opírá o translatologicko-teoretický rámec teorie polysystémů, praxeologie překladu a role překladatele, vysvětluje fenomén přímého a nepřímého překladu, pojednává o významu paratextů při studiu překladů, vysvětluje specifika produkce překladu pro hispanofonní země a nastiňuje otázku překladu z malých kultur. Metodologicky se práce opírá o historiografické bádání, paratextuální analýzu diskurzu a orální historii. Na základě těchto metod práce představuje korpus 41 překladů vydaných v Mexiku, včetně "dovezených" překladů a reedic, a přináší kompletní informaci o každém přeloženém titulu. Následně práce aktualizuje korpus mexické literatury přeložené do češtiny a snaží se interpretovat a porovnat vývoj česko- mexických a mexicko-českých překladů z diachronního, literárně-druhového...
Translations of Czech Literature in Mexico and Translations of Mexican Literature into Czech

The objective of this paper is to create a corpus of translations of Czech literature published in the form of book in Mexico until 2019 included and to describe how they were received. The aim of the paper is to answer questions about which Czech literature was published in Mexico, when and where it was translated, and who originated the translations. The theoretical part of the paper presents Czech-Mexican relations as they evolved in the sociocultural polysystem of the 20th century. The paper further uses the theoretical framework of the praxeology of translation and the translator's role, it explains the phenomenon of direct and indirect translation, it discusses the importance of paratexts for the study of translations, it explains the specificity of producing translations for the Spanish-speaking countries as well as it outlines the issue of translating from small cultures. Historiographical research, paratextual discourse analysis and oral history were used as the methodological core of this paper. Using these methods, the paper presents a corpus of 39 translated Czech literary works published in Mexico, including "imported" translations and re-editions, supplying comprehensive details on every one of them. This bachelor thesis consists of two main parts, practical and theoretical. The first part is formed by functional translation of the brochure Guía de Buenas Prácticas Ambientales from spanish to czech language. The second part contain includes the annoted translation which contains translation analysis of the source text, description of used translation procedures, presentation of specific problems including their solutions and characterization of functional shifts between the source text and the target text. This BA thesis consists of two main parts: practical and theoretical. The first is a translation of an excerpt from Es emocionante saber emocionarse by Spanish author and psychologist Roberto Aguado Romo which is dedicated to emotional management. The theoretical part contains 1) an analysis of the source text based on the Christiane Nord's model of external and internal factors, and 2) a detailed description of translation problems and the solutions used to address them. The aim of this work is to provide a functionally equivalent translation and to demonstrate both practical skills and theoretical knowledge acquired during the undergraduate studies.
The role of a book editor in Vladimír Medek's translations, focused on Muñoz Molina's novels Plenilunio and El jinete polaco

This thesis deals with the Spanish author Antonio Muñoz Molina and with the Czech translator Vladimír Medek who has translated two novels of the writer: Plenilunio, in Czech as Za úplňku (Garamond, 2008) and El jinete polaco, in Czech as Polský jezdec (Leda, 2018). The thesis also focuses on revisions that a book editor Anežka Charvátová made in the second novel. The thesis is divided in two parts: a theoretical and a practical part. The first one is dedicated briefly to Antonio Muñoz Molina's life and to his work as a writer. The following chapter addresses the translator Vladimír Medek and his translations from Spanish literature. The last chapter of this section describes a book editor's work and his role within a publishing house. The practical part of this thesis deals just with the two novels mentioned above. The two books are characterized first according to Christiane Nord's model of text analysis and then concrete translation processes and solutions used by Vladimír Medek are shown on examples. In case of El jinete polaco a translation handwriting before and after editor's revisions is analysed and changes made in the preparative phase of the translation are traced. "Literary translator" as a profession

The aim of this thesis is to give a picture as complete as possible of the sociological, material and economic conditions of the translation of a literary work. This thesis elaborates the characteristics of the profession of 'literary translator' in the Czech environment. It focuses on the role and position of a literary translator in the contemporary Czech book market and examines the economic context of this activity. The practical part includes a questionnaire survey and interviews with translators. The results of the questionnaire search are processed by means of a descriptive analysis and a correlation analysis. The interviews were used to create medallions illustrating the individual variations of the translator's profession of literary texts. The subject of this thesis is a commented translation of two chapters of the publication Buñuel por Buñuel, which was published for the first time in Spain in 1993. The book is written by José de la Colina and Tomás Pérez Turrent in the form of an interview and it is dedicated to the life and work of the Spanish filmmaker Luis Buñuel. The commentary consists of a study of the the original text according to Christiane Nord's model of Text Analysis in Translation, a description of the translation strategy and a typology and discussion of the main problems posed by the translation process. Finally, I focus on some relevant translation shifts taking place in the Czech rendition of the text.

This bachelor's thesis consists of an annotated translation of three chapters selected from the Belmondo biography, written by French author and journalist Gilles Durieux. This thesis is divided into two parts: the translation itself and the translation commentary. The commentary deals with the analysis of the source text; the method of translation and the typology of translation problems are determined and discussed there. The commentary also introduces translation procedures and the translation shift which has occurred during translation from one language into another.
