True Finns. Establishment of right-wing populism in Finland?

The master thesis "True Finns. Establishment of right-wing populism in Finland?" deals with political party True Finns (The Finns, PS), its historical development and current position in Finnish party system. The master thesis is devided into three chapters. The first chapter deals with populist radical right political parties (PRR), which have established themselves in a lot of Western Europe party systém (inluding Scandinavia). Finland represented a state which had been immune of PRR. The aim of the first chapter is to answer an question, which are the main reasons of PRR emergence, respectively which were the reasons which delayed the Finnish PRR. The second chapter is concerned with political party True Finns (The Finns, PS), its historical development and ideological profile. The chapter reffers to ideological and personal roots in Finnish Rural Party. A part of the chapter is ideological core used by Cas Mudde (nativism, authoritarianism, populism) which is supplemented by an economical programme. The final part deals with the parliamentary election 2012. The final chapter concerns with current PS position in Finnish party systém and with impact on finnish politics. The chapter is closed with positive and negative factors for the future development.

Party SMER-SD and its Position in the Slovak Party System

The aim of this thesis is to place Slovak political party SMER in the political and party system of the Slovak Republic and attempt to analyse ideological and programmatic development of this party. The author devotes attention to development of SMER from the emergence in 1999 until last general elections in 2012. First chapter seeks to describe evolution of socialism and following ideologies including the concept of the Third way which was reflected by some Western European social democratic parties. The second chapter is dedicated to left-wing political parties in Czechoslovakia and lately in Slovak Republic. This chapter is divided into two sections. The first section is about parties existing before 1989 and the second one devotes attention to parties after Velvet Revolution in 1989. Next part of this work is focused on the SMER itself. Author describes three phases of development of this party including emergence in 1999, opposition activities between 2002 and 2006 and phase of hegemony following after 2006. The purpose of the last part of the thesis is to analyse ideological and programmatic development of SMER and highlight some problematic features of proclaimed social democratic orientation.

The party systems of the Visegrad group in crisis?

The master thesis The party systems of the Visegrad group in crisis? analyzes the conditon of party systems in Central Europe, with emphasis on recent electoral and political developments. It focuses on the study of various phenomena that slow down or even prevent the consolidation and crystallization of competitive party systems. Emphasis is placed on research using qualitative as well as quantitative methods, especially the comparative method and application of the theoretical concept of business firm party. The aim is not only to map and identify problematic processes and phenomena that party systems show, but also on the structural classification of a famous G. Sartori and J. Blondel theoretical concepts.

The Reflection of the Election Campaign in Selected Czech Newspapers

The topic of my master Thesis is "The Reflection of Czech Parliamentary Election 2006 in selected Czech newspapers". I am trying to analyze how two important Czech dailies handle the political topics especially with the connection with the election campaign. I am analyzing what formats the dailies are using to write about politics, political parties and single politicians, how many political articles there are on the first pages, how much space is devoted to pure program of the political parties and how much of it is wasted on a description of a day-to-day running of the campaign. I am also focusing on the issue of the independence and neutrality of the news coverage of the dailies. They always claim that it is only the opinion desk where the staff can express their real opinions. But do they not do it in the news section of the newspaper as well? I am trying to analyze what political party the daily inclines to and how much it shows it. I examine how much the dailies wrote about certain politicians. And the focus is put on many other issues yet. There are many conclusions derived from my thesis. One of the most important ones is that the two examined dailies have a strong liking for certain political parties and that they show it not only in the opinion desk but also in the news section. The phenomenon of the strong position of labour parties in Norway, Sweden and Denmark

Summary: My thesis deals with the unique phenomenon of the strong position of the labour parties in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. These parties have held a position of a dominant party in the Scandinavian party systems for several decades from the late 1930s till the 1970s which is a remarkable achievement among the Western European political parties. The phenomenon of the strong position of labour parties in Norway, Sweden and Denmark The key to the phenomenal success of the Norwegian Labor Party, the Swedish Social Democrats and the Danish Social Democrats have been particularly high party identification of voters. The success of the welfare state also lies in the widespread feeling that everyone benefits from this state policy not only the poor. These party systems had been due to its stable and unchanging character described as "frozen party systems". The frozen part of the party systems in that period represented an average of about 85% of the votes in Norway and Denmark. In the case of Sweden the figure was even higher - about 94% of all votes. In the case of Norway and Sweden, the Social Democrats as predominant party held even up to 30% more seats than the second strongest political party. In such an environment it is almost impossible for a newly established political group to enter the party system....

Conditions of the rise of technocratic cabinets in Europe

The thesis analyzes the key conditions under which technocratic cabinets in Europe are formed. There are 45 technocratic cabinets in Europe since 1989. This year is connected with collapse of communist regimes in Central and East Europe and democratization. There are also similar political, economic and social conditions under which all governments are formed in this period. The thesis composed of nineteen chapters. Because of lack of literature we have to define the technocratic government at first. After introduction of this topic, the second chapter defines basic terminology. Another part of the thesis is about technocratic cabinets in individual European countries.
