Analysis and comparison of user interface of the websites of special libraries at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague and proposals for its innovation

The diploma thesis focuses on the analysis and assessment of the existing user interface of the departmental libraries of Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague. The theoretical part generally characterizes the discipline of Human Computer Interaction. Furthermore, it characterizes concepts such as user interface, web usability and web accessibility and information architecture. Besides, it introduces the organisation, functions and services of the Central Library of the Faculty of Arts, including departmental libraries. The practical part explores and assesses current condition of the websites of the departmental libraries. The aim of this research is to determine users' satisfaction based on their experience with these library websites. Moreover, the research monitors the users' idea of an ideal website. A further concern is the usability, accessibility, content, design and information architecture of the websites researched. In accordance with the results of the research, a schema of a new human interface for the departmental libraries is designed.
Providing Access to Electronic Information Resources at Jan Palach Library CUFA

The bachelor thesis deals with providing access to electronic resources (ER) at Jan Palach Library CUFA. The theoretical part of the thesis defines term ER, describes their typology, deals with acquisition and management and introducing tools for using them. The thesis describes experiences of Jan Palach Library CUFA with providing access to ER and deals with information behavior of ER users. The aim of the thesis is to describe a situation in ER management on example of an university library on Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague. The practical part of the thesis is an user research on the method of the survey which results that situation in ER use is slowly getting better, users do not feel foreign language ER production as problem and just only small group of users attended workshop dedicated to ER, because users do not feel the need to. Assessment of informetric, bibliometric and scientometric methods as a tool for support and evaluation of research in European context

This thesis is concerned with the topic of research evaluation by bibliometric methods at European level. European level is defined in two perspectives: first as a set of countries grouped in EU (and its historic predecessors), second the Framework Programmes were appointed as a representative of pan-European research. It is investigated how bibliometric methods are used in a research development and evaluation on both political and academic level. The thesis maps the history of use of bibliometric methods and indicators in great detail and it analyzes the aim and impact of such use. The rationale of use of those methods as well as the enablers such as availability of data are investigated. An experiment of constructing and analyzing the set of relevant data is pursued to assess the relevancy and feasibility of such analysis. Based on the findings the thesis summarizes the options and opportunities of bibliometrics as a method for formation and evaluation of European research.

Information Science and Librarianship in Arab Countries

The aim of this thesis is to describe current situation of information science and librarianship in Arab countries. To introduce and depict common ground, important historical moments for information science and librarianship in Arab countries will be described. Afterwards, field organizations operating in these countries will be mapped and characterized. The main part of the thesis will analyse the situation in each of twenty Arab countries. The analysis will map the most important libraries and universities, where the field of information science and librarianship is studied. Development of Bibliometrics in the Czech Republic

(in English) Bachelor thesis is focused on the development of bibliometrics in the Czech Republic which includes significant events, personalities and institutions which substantially related to the Czech bibliometrics. In the thesis bibliometrics is firstly defined as the science with its methods, laws and use. The general history of bibliometrics is also outlined for comparison with the Czech development. It describes the world development from the beginning to the present. History of the Czech bibliometrics presents similar description of history but in this case applied to the Czech scene. In detail the thesis focuses on probably the most famous Czech achievement from the field of bibliometrics. This is the scientometric working group founded by Jan Vlachý, world renowned Czech bibliometrician and scientometrician. In particular, we address to the group's activity and two preserved proceedings from organized seminars. Below the thesis emphasises the facts which still illustrate the situation in the field of the Czech bibliometrics. Specifically, it relates to the personalities of the Czech bibliometrics who in some way contributed to the development in this area and in this place the analyses of bibliometric literature of the Czech authors are also evaluated.
Information Sources for Theatrical Form of Dance

The bachelor thesis describes selected information sources for a theatrical form of dance. The thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and practic. Theoretical part explains the terms related to the information sources and theatrical form of dance and describes historical development of the information sources. The aim of the thesis is to describe and compare information sources for a theatrical form of dance. The thesis makes differences between the information sources for general public and those for professional dancers. Practical part of thesis compares information sources based on their content. The comparison shows that the czech information sources are comparable to the foreign sources. Selling used books online

The aim of this thesis is to describe selling and buying used books online. This thesis includes analysis of book listing services, where everyone can buy, sell or exchange used books online. These web portals are more common outside of Czech Republic. There is also described practice of online auctions sites (such as Aukro or eBay) that are also often used for trading books. This thesis also includes description of traditional auctions, which are in some way operating online as well. In Czech Republic online antiquarian bookstores are the most common way of buying books. This thesis describes development and current practice of Czech antiquarian bookstores. Part of this thesis include libraries' practice with selling and purchasing used books, as libraries are significant producers and often even buyers of used books. This part includes original research among several libraries.

It provides an overview of specialized scientific network and commonly used social networks. This thesis focuses on social networks, which are used in research and development. Furthermore, it describes and explains terms, such as social network, social media, and web 2.0. The last part is devoted to topic "Use of social networks in research and development in academics" and presents results of this practical application.
