Social movement, Yellow vest movement
Marešová, Jana ; Ullrichová, Eliška (advisor) ; Bauer, Paul (referee)
This work focuses on the subject of the social movement, the yellow vest movement. It determines the possible classification of the yellow vests into the category of the occupy movement. In the work, the concept of the social movement is first characterized on the basis of scientific literature. The occupy movement is described in more detail and its basic features are determined. Then, attention is paid to the yellow vest movement examined. We focus on the course, development, reaction of the government and the main features of the movement. The aim of the work is to assess whether the yellow vest movement can be understood through new social movements as the occupy category movement due to the features that are developed in the work. The result is evidence that the yellow vest movement and the occupy movement have clear common characteristics. It is therefore possible to classify the yellow vests into this category, although there are also features that go beyond it.
Spoirituals, Sacred Songs of the American Negro
Bauer, Pavel ; Tvrdek, Petr (advisor) ; Bravená, Noemi (referee)
This diploma thesis "Spirituals, sacred songs of the American Negro" deals with the Negro spiritual, the conditions of its origin; and how they influenced the music culture - at first in the USA, later on in Europe, nowadays all over the world. Afro-American spirituals originated the elements of the whole scale of that is now called modern music (blues, jazz, rock'n'roll, pop-music etc.). To elected lyrics there are invited melodies, for to catch the poetry of the spirituals. Spirituals influenced a number of the composers in fin de siécle (from Czech ones we can mention Antonín Dvořák on the field of classical music, and Jaroslav Ježek on jazz). We can find them even in the hymn-books of some churches.
Civic Integration of Immigrants in France between 2002-2012
Simbartlová, Anna ; Tomalová, Eliška (advisor) ; Bauer, Paul (referee)
The Master thesis "Civic Integration of Immigrants in France between 2002-2012" deals with a new integration model of civic integration which the European immigration countries have begun to enforce since the turn of the millennium. An interesting feature of this model is that it is employed by countries whose approch to the integration of immigrants significantly differed till the end of the 20th century. The goal of the thesis is to discover what character shows the civic integration as a new integration model of immigrants in Europe in the integration policies applied in France between 2002-2012. The main hypothesis is based on the theory of the return of assimilation. Its author R. Brubaker claims that in the current integration policies of (not only) European states, the assimilationist tendencies return - however, not in the original concept of assimilation, but in a new transformed concept in between assimilation and multiculturalism. The thesis applies this theory conclusion to the contemporary civic integration policies, so the research verifies its assimilationist character. According to the method specially compiled for this research, the results prove that the integration measures accepted in France between 2002-2012 show a development from a moderate to considerable assimilationist...

Horáčková, Tereza ; Křížová, Markéta (advisor) ; Bauer, Pauli (referee) ; György, Eszter (referee)
This thesis presents the results of a historical investigation of the arrival and presence of Vietnamese immigrants in Prague between 1974 and 1993. Methodologically, the research is based on interviews with witnesses of the program of socialist internationalism and on the study of the Czechoslovak government administrative documents from the period between 1974, ie. the year the signing of the Agreement between the Government Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam about employing Vietnamese citizens in Czechoslovak organizations1 , with a milestone in 1989 as the collapse of the communist regime, and the year 1993, as the separation of Slovakia and the establishment of an independent Czechoslovak Republic This work is not only based on the assumption that this program influenced the integration of the first generation in Czechoslovak society, but it also shows an indirect influence on the second generation coming after the Velvet Revolution, due to the program's effect on the emergence of Vietnamese social networks. The research aims to uncover the factors that influence the adaptation of the first and second generations in the majority environment and to indicate the effect that the normative framework of the program had on the formation of ethnic social networks. It...
Human trafficking: the role of the EU and the approaches to the problem in Czech Republic and in Belgium
Haniaková, Tereza ; Bauer, Paul (advisor) ; Matějka, Ondřej (referee)
This master thesis aims to unveil and examine the interplay between different actors in the fight against human trafficking. These are: the European Union, the Czech Republic and Belgium. A content (text) analysis of the primary sources gives the answers on how those actors work with the definition of human trafficking and to what extent the two member states implemented the EU Directive 2011/36/EU and other documents. In addition to conducting the content (text) analysis, creating a literature review and researching on different discourses linked to this phenomenon, this thesis include two semi-structured interviews with the representatives of the Czech Republic and Belgium. Those offer deeper insight into how those states form this fight in practice. They unveiled different aspects in their own approaches but also aspects that make their approach unique. This thesis examines also how the new strategy - the most important document framing the fight against human trafficking and the country's priorities - is adopted and what generally will those strategies include from the year 2020.
La Nation Tchèque: the construction of Czechoslovak nation in France
Krejčová, Jana ; Matějka, Ondřej (advisor) ; Bauer, Paul (referee)
During the First World War intense diplomatic efforts of T. G. Masaryk and his companions helped to create circumstances for the foundation of the Czechoslovak independent state. Extensive propaganda was an important element of the activities of the Czechoslovak National Council, the official organ of Masaryk's group, based in Paris. Revue La Nation Tchèque was a crucial communication channel targeting the French audience. By the means of thematic analysis and elements of historic-discourse analysis, this thesis aims to unveil crucial argumentative lines which were supposed to create the idea of Czechoslovak nation in the mind of the French people. The first chapter introduces the theoretical and methodological framework and deals with the different concepts of nations, it defines propaganda as a type of political communication and presents the approach of discursive creation of national community. In the second part, revue La Nation Tchèque is briefly characterised together with its redaction background. The last part of the thesis is dedicated to the thematic analysis which resulted in three main topics. The first topic focuses on the concept of national history, description of Czechoslovak national character and develops on the relationship with the West European history. The prevailing motive...
Notice of termination of apartment lease
Bauer, Petr ; Salač, Josef (referee) ; Pohl, Tomáš (referee)
The subject of the Work is the notice of termination of apartment lease. The Work was submitted during the vacantia legis period (i.e. the period between the force and effect of the law) of Act. No. 89/2012 Coll., the "new Civil Code". With regard to the historical politico- legal development of the Czech Republic, the content of the Work may be simply divided into the "three generations of notices of termination of apartment lease". However, the main objective of the Work are the practical issues with notices of termination of apartment lease according to the existing regulation, i.e. Act No. 40/1964 Coll., and the regulation according to the new Civil Code. Since the new Civil Code is partially inspired by the regulation effective in the territory of the Czech Republic in the 19th and the first half of the 20th century, attention is paid (in relation to apartment lease notices) also to the regulation from the first half of the 20th century, which in the form of special acts regulated reasons for lease termination in relatively great detail. The first comprehensive regulation was drawn up in the period of the so called "First Republic" based on Act No. 83/1918 Coll, on Protection of Tenants. Evaluation of lease apartment termination notices may not be quite separated from other institutes of law...
France and the reform of the eurozone - from Sarkozy to Hollande
Juhás, Tomáš ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (advisor) ; Bauer, Paul (referee)
Bibliografický záznam JUHÁS, Tomáš. France and the reform of the eurozone - from Sarkozy to Hollande. Praha, 2015. 68 s. Diplomová práce (Mgr.) Univerzita Karlova, Fakulta sociálních věd, Institut mezinárodních studií. Katedra západoevropských studií. Vedoucí diplomové práce Doc. JUDr. PhDr. Ivo Šlosarčík, LL.M., Ph.D. Abstract The thesis seeks to map and explain the change of mind of President François Hollande with regard to the overall austerity in the eurozone. In early 2012, the President-to-be Hollande campaigned on a wave of desire for change and his campaign promises and election program promised a radically new approach towards economic and fiscal policies in the eurozone once he became president. The most explicit manifestation of this change should have been the renegotiation of the fiscal compact, formally the Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union. However, once in office, the new socialist president made very little to change the overall course of austerity at home and in the euro area. To explain this unexpected outcome, the thesis employs the sociological-political concept of the field of Eurocracy, derived from the sociology of Pierre Bourdieu and developed in the French academia by Didier Georgakakis and Jay Rowell. In such context, President...
