Holomková, Teťana ; Bartoň, Josef (advisor) ; Větrovec, Pavel (referee)
The thesis is focused on the personality of Ukranian thinker Hryhorij S. Skovoroda, renowned philosopher, poet, pedagogue and composer of liturgical music. His life journey and important influences which formed his way of thinking (for exmple historical background, culture, education, travelling and crucial moments of his life). Above all, however, thinker's point of view on Holy scripture is investigated. How relationship he had with Holy scripture, how he treated it and how he wrote about it. The thesis presents contents of four Skovoroda's writings in which he deals with the Bible. Subsequently, statements directly related to Scripture or Scripture commentary are excluded from these writings. These represent the original scale of thinker's perception and interpretation of Scripture. Afrerwards, the found statements are compiled into a system that corresponds to Skovoroda's philosophy. The thesis attempts to outline the viewpoint on the Bible through the eyes of Hryhorij S. Skovoroda.
Adolf Vykopal (1910-1975): His Life and Work
Vlček, Tomáš ; Bartoň, Josef (advisor) ; Větrovec, Pavel (referee)
Adolf Vykopal (1910-1975): His Life and Work This thesis reconstructs the life of a Moravian Catholic priest, doctor of theology and emigrant Adolf Vykopal. A recent publication of one of his books in Italy (Morcelliana, 2013) gave the impulse that eventually resulted in writing this thesis. The research was particularly difficult for the simple fact that he spent the majority of his life abroad. He lived in Luxembourg, Belgium, France and most importantly in Italy. His name is almost unknown in the Czech academia although he published two books and several articles in the 30s and 40s. That is also the reason why there is almost no secondary literature about him. My work is therefore based on an archive research including personal archive materials. His main interests were the social and economical issues of his age. He tried to see them in the Christian perspective and offer a solution. However, his interests were much wider than that, ranging from Czech biblical translation and Church Fathers to systematic theology. The second part of my thesis focuses on his work and proposes a detailed overview of all the books and articles of his that I have managed to collect. The reader should get a complex perspective concerning this exceptional figure of Czech and European Catholic Church of 20th century.
Is that you God in that void?" Spirituality in I.M. Jirous's and J. Zahradníček's prison poetry
Krásenská, Klára ; Bartoň, Josef (advisor) ; Sládek, Miloš (referee)
First of all, the author briefly introduces some of the most fundamental moments in the lives of both poets and also the circumstances they were facing as political prisoners during the period od 50's and 80's in the communist Czechoslovakia. The main part of the thesis primarily analyses those poems of Jan Zahradníček and Ivan M. Jirous, that were written while both authors were persecuted and jailed by the regime. The aim of this thesis is to characterize and compare those motifs and topics in the prison poetry collections, that are common for both poets, due to similar circumstances, that determined their lives. Nevetherless, the main topic basically connecting all of them discusses poets' relationship with God in the context of personal crisis. The author will concentrate especially on the revealing and interpretating those spiritual moments, that can be understood as a reflection of Jirous's and Zahradníček's personal spiritual experience.

Sulimowicz, Anna Akbike ; Kaleta, Petr (advisor) ; Bartoň, Josef (referee) ; Gąsiorowski, Stefan (referee)
The Social Life of the Karaim Community of Lutsk in the Interwar Period (1919-1939) Of the four Karaite communities lying within the borders of newly independent Poland the Lutsk community was the smallest. However, it was here that efforts to preserve the Karaim language and identity were most intense. The writer and editor A. Mardkowicz and the poet S. Rudkowski strove to preserve the Karaim language and strengthen ethnic self-identity. In this thesis the author endeavored to explain the background to this cultural eudaimonia in Lutsk: the demographic and legal status of the community, its spiritual and cultural life, relations with the non-Karaite environment, and its assets. Keywords: Karaites, Polish-Lithuanian Karaites, Karaites in Volhynia, Karaites in Luck
Anti-Jewish Sentences in the New Testamen.
Procházka, Josef ; Ryšková, Mireia (advisor) ; Bartoň, Josef (referee)
The anti-Jewish statements in the New Testament. This thesis is focused on anti- Jewish statements in the New Testament. In the first chapter, the applied process of localization and selection of such statements is explained. In the second chapter, the rising Christian movement is set both into historical and spiritual context of Palestine of the first century AD. Furthermore, the topic-relevant historical events are highlighted in this part (Easter, the refusal of Jesus' Jewish followers by the majority of the Jewish nation, turn to the mission of pagans, Jewish war and especially gradual separation of the Christian movement from Judaism depicted in the books of the New Testament). In the third chapter of the thesis, the selected anti-Jewish statements are analysed. These statements are located in the First Epistle to the Thesalonnians(2, 13-16), Gospel According to Matthew (21,33-46; 23,13-33; 27,24-26) and Gospel According to John (8, 37-47). The conclusion brings the evaluation of these statements, which have first of all constituted a polemic between different Jewish groups and served to strengthening of a distinct identity of young Christian communities. In the past, the interpretation of these statements had been misused in order to justify persecution, discrimination of the Jews as well as...

Makovcová-Demartini, Lenka ; Bartoň, Josef (referee)
The thesis "The Function of Biblical Motifs for Lyrics in Czech Pop Music of the 1960s and the 1970s" introduces the academic framework of the topic within the first chapter: the definition of the terms, the criteria and method for selecting the motifs and lyrics used. Then, the position of Czech pop music in the cultural and political context of the period is explained, which is a relevant part of the topic itself. Also an outline of the academic reflection of the related topic is referred to as well as the function of biblical motifs in other styles of music (rock, folk and underground music) with the emphasis on the projection of the stylistic differences into using these topics for the lyrics. It also deals with specific elements cooperating within the pop music genre with regard to the observed period. The following four chapters are probes into the pop music and biblical motifs issue. They are meant as the reflection of the the inner dynamics of the genre as well: in the second and third chapters the selected biblical motifs (general motifs, prayers, biblicisms and biblicalcharacters) are enlisted and the anylysis of their funcion and using for various lyrics is provided in comparison with their biblical message and introducing the original loci in the Bible. The fourth chapter is focused on...
Jehovah's Witnesses - the Development of Selected Doctrines
Velechovský, Petr ; Bartoň, Josef (advisor) ; Větrovec, Pavel (referee)
The Jehovah's Witnesses and the company Watchtower are quite known to the public. Since the foundation of the Jehovah's Witnesses, thousands of articles in the press tried, less or more successfully, to describe their history. When we come out of the perspective, that they publish only truth about themselves, we would have to conclude, that they are the best religious organization on the world. Since 1998 I have published many articles intentionally dedicated to the issues of Jehovah's Witnesses and other new religious movements in these journals: Dingir - religionistic journal about current religious scene, Rozmer - a journal for Christian spiritual orientation, and Sects and Facts. I also refuted the errors and mistakes published by others about their organization. The aim was to publish truthful information that is not commonly available to their members and the public. In the era of the internet and digitalized archives it would seem that it's no longer needed. Various information can be found on the internet, but they are valuable only when properly verified and, if possible, taken from primary sources. That's why it's necessary to have the critical view on the teachings of the Witnesses and objectively evaluate the danger that comes from their teachings to the believers and unbelievers. The...
God's Image in Gregory of Nyssa
Marunová, Magdalena ; Karfík, Filip (advisor) ; Bartoň, Josef (referee) ; Dus, Jan (referee)
The aim of this work is to introduce Gregory of Nyssa's doctrine of man as the image of God, based especially on his work Περ κατασκευ ς νθρώπουὶ ῆ ἀ (De hominis opificio). In his work Gregory created quite a systematic anthropological treatise based on Stoic sources, Biblical interpretations inspired by Philo of Alexandria and Origen, as well as on ancient medicine. In contrast to the ancient philosophical school views concerning human being, Gregory refuses the parallel of man as a small world and says that the dignity of man consists not in being similar to the created world, but to the Creator. There are many attributes that constitute human similarity to God, but especially due to the incomprehensibility man is the image of God. The incomprehensibility consists in human mind (νο ςῦ ) in which the human likeness to God can most apparently be recognized. It cannot be placed anywhere in the body and the connection between mind and body is, according to Gregory, unspeakable: the mind does not reside in any particular part of the body, but yet it acts in and is influenced by the whole body. The image of God is the whole mankind, from the first up to the last created human being. When the planned number of souls is completed, the time and everything that happens in time will come to an end. In the...
Be where you are. The Idea of Stability in John Cassian
Smolen, Štěpán ; Bartoň, Josef (advisor) ; Ventura, Václav (referee)
BE WHERE YOU ARE: THE IDEA OF MONASTIC STABILITY IN JOHN CASSIAN The thesis examines the role of stability in the texts of patristic author John Cassian, who is concerned with the spirituality of the early Egyptian monasticism. The theme is briefly presented in relation to author's life and writings. A detailed lexicological analysis shows which words and with which meaning Cassian uses to express the idea of stability. The third chapter forms the core of the study - it describes five main aspects of the studied idea: i. e. the stability of vocation (stabilitas professionis), the stability of place (stabilitas loci), the stability of heart (stabilitas cordis), the stability in the good (stabilitas boni) and God's stability (stabilitas Dei). These aspects are delineated as successive degrees of a spiritual journey that leads from external to internal forms of stability and further to the stability of love of God and neighbour. The whole Cassian's conception is then situated within the wider context of systematic theology. The introduction and the conclusion of the thesis put the examined topic in the frame of the contemporary "crisis of rootedness" and outline the possible therapeutic dimension of author's thought for those who are afflicted with instability. Keywords John Cassian; Egyptian...
