Poetry of Ludvík Kundera

The thesis focuses on the poetry of Ludvík Kundera. It introduces his work in chronological order and within the contemporary literary-historical framework. The analysis and the interpretation of his early poems often refer to the war period. Language and its potentiality are a main concern in Kundera's other work. His poetry is defined in the context of avant-garde modern art: surrealism, dadaism and expressionism. The thesis researches the impact of Brecht's poetics on Kundera, too. It also introduces the persona of the artist, who significantly contributed to forming the Czech literary field during the second half of the 20th century. Kundera's poetry relates to Czech and foreign artists and their works. The poems rise from ordinary occasions, as well as showing the poet's intertextual approach. Experimentation, wordplay, lyrical humour and irony are an inherent part of Ludvík Kundera's work.

The Poetry of Milan Koch in the Context of Beat Generation and Underground Literature

Key words (in English) Poetry, Underground, Beat generation, Counterculture, Analysis, Interpretation Abstract (in English) This bachelor thesis is dealing with the relationship between the literature of Czech beat generation and the underground of 60's and 70's of the 20th century. The main topic is an analysis of two collections of poems by Milan Koch: Červená KarKULKA and Hóra Láv, which are interpreted mainly in comparison to the poems of the collection Blues pro bláznivou holku by Václav Hrabě and to Howl, a poem by Allen Ginsberg. The interpretation focuses on concordances and differences in poetics of those - but also others - writers, on motivic analysis, on the bound with the context of then time and also discusses the influence of the american beat generation and their texts mediated by the translations of Jan Zábrana in the 60's (from the part in Světová literatura magazine in 1959 to later works in context of the 60's). This work is also about the influence of Allen Ginsberg's visit in Prague on the early underground and finally, present text tries to widen the knowledge about the life of the poet Milan Koch, too.

Between dream, play and reality: the Alfred Kubin's novel "Die andere Seite" and its Czech translation

Výtvarné i literární dílo Alfreda Kubina (1877-1959) je často spojováno se symbolismem či expresionismem (vystavoval s uskupením Der blaue Reiter), méně často se v souvislosti s ním mluví o surrealismu, přestože byl už v roce 1936 na newyorské výstavě "Fantastic Art, Dada and Surrealism" představen jako jeho předchůdce. Také do českého prostředí se Kubinův jediný román Die andere Seite (v českém překladu Země snivců, 1947) dostal právě díky surrealistům, kteří v něm odhalili surrealistickou obraznost stejně jako v jeho výtvarné tvorbě. V Kubinově osobnosti se (stejně jako u mnohých surrealistů) propOjUje výtvarný talent s literárním: jeho kresby měly často literární podtext ("příběhovost" kreseb), texty se zase vyznačovaly výtvarným pojetím. Tyto dvě části Kubínova talentu se propojily v jeho jediném románu Die andere Seite, který sám také ilustroval. V jeho případě ilustrace text pouze nedoprovázejí, ale vytvářejí svébytnou část knihy. O románu sám také prohlásil, že na jeho základě by měla být lépe pochopena jeho výtvarná činnost.I Román tedy vyjadřuje stejné ideje jako jeho kresby. Comparison of the novels "I served the king of England" and "The Nazi and the Barber" in the context of the picaresque novel tradition

Romány Obsluhoval jsem anglického krále (1974) Bohumila Hrabala a Nácek a holič (Der Nazi und der Friseur, 1977) německého autora Edgara Hilsenratha vznikaly nezávisle na sobě na opačných stranách tehdejší rozdělené Evropy. Přesto však mají mnoho společného, a to nejen dobu svého vzniku (počátek 70. let) či komplikace provázející jejich vydání. Shodných rysů mezi nimi najdeme mnohem víc. Oba romány nabízejí netradiční pohled na dějiny 20. století, své kontroverzní hrdiny nechávají projít událostmi, které předcházely druhé světové válce, válečnými léty i poválečnými zvraty. Ani v jednom z obou případů se nejedná o heroizaci doby nebo hlavních postav, ba právě naopak. Vypravěči Jan Dítě a Max Schulz představují outsidery, snažící se za každou cenu získat uznání (Dítě) a moc (Max). Za svým cílem jdou pak tvrdošíjně, bez ohledu na následky. Absurdita, nadsázka, černý humor a grotesknost se zde pojí s lyrickým jazykem a viděním. Dochází tak k porušení ustálených narativních postupů, na které byli čtenáři literatury s válečnou a poválečnou tematikou zvyklí. Netradiční způsob vyprávění a amorálnost hlavních postav vyprávějících své neuvěřitelné životní osudy s naprostou otevřeností byly také jedny z hlavních příčin, proč trvalo několik let, než se romány dočkaly svého vydání na domácí půdě. Recent trends in contemporary Czech poetry

Situaci české poezie po roce 1989 a jejích proměn se už dotkla řada studií, věnující se většinou literatuře devadesátých let ve změněném kulturně-společenském kontextu. Nejpodrobněji tak zatím učinili Balaštík 1998a, Trávníček 1998 a Holý 2002, dílčím aspektům se věnovala řada dalších autorů l ; proměnám "polistopadové" literatury obecně (tedy nejen poezie) byla věnována například i rozsáhlá anketa v 6., 7. a 8. čísle časopisu Host roku 2003, jíž se účastnilo na padesát spisovatelů, kritiků, literárních teoretiků a dalších osobností české literatury (Host 2003). Zaměření této práce je proto užší: na základě podrobného rozboru a interpretace několika výrazných autorských poetik se pokusit o vymezení a zmapování některých proudů, jež se zdají být v období mezi lety 1990 až 2005 v české poezii relativně vyhraněné, výrazné, nosné a které naznačují směry dalšího vývoje.

Character and characterisation in Czech novel in the fifties

My Diploma work, entitled Character and Characterization In The Czech Socialist Realism Novel In The 50th ofThe 20th Century analyses the prose ofthe darkest times ofthe czechoslovak totalitarian regime. I focused on a so called constructive novel (budovatelský román, dealing with contemporary problems of rebuilding the society) and stories from a recent history, which came about e.g. during the times ofWorld War II. Second chapter's subject is the socialist thinking about literature. There I focused on a character itself, which was one of the most important literary categories at that time. Character helped the readers to overgo aesthetic distance in the relation to the text and to authentify the worldmaking model of a fiction. Cognitive possibilities and didactic demands on a prose were the most important things for a conception of art in the czech fifties. The incongruence of a categorization and personalization (terms introduced by Ralf Schneider) in characterization and separateness of ideological scheme and personal individualization were the reasons why the constructive novels were so schematic. Development of the magnetic methods for testing homogeneity of fiber- concrete structures and potential applications in the forensic engineering

The favorable properties of steel fiber can be used if we need to increase the durability of concrete tensile stress that exceeds its strength, cyclic stress or shock loads. The problem is the processing of steel fiber-concrete structure. Especially at higher concentrations of fibers. During the manufacturing process, the fibers are often unevenly distributed. Wires are often clustered, reducing the overall homogeneity and the quality of steel fiber-concrete structures. The paper deals with the development of the magnetic method using permanent magnets for monitoring the distribution of fibers in hardened steel fiber-concrete structures and comparative measurements on control samples.
