Optimizing and Evaluating the Biocompatibility of Fiber Composites with CaP Additives
Suchý, Tomáš ; Sucharda, Zbyněk ; Balík, Karel ; Sochor, M. ; Bačáková, Lucie
Composite materials based on a polyamide fabric (aramid) and a polydymethyl-siloxane (PDMS) matrix were designed for application in bone surgery. In order to increase the bioactivity, 2, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 vol. % of nano/micro hydroxyapatite (HA) and tricalcium phosphate (TCP) were added. The effect of the additives on the biocompatibility was studied. It appears that nano additives have a more favorable effect than micro particles on mechanical properties. For final application of the composites as substitutes for bone tissues, 15 vol. % of nano hydroxyapatite additives is an optimum amount: in this case both the mechanical properties and the biological properties are optimized without distinct changes in the inner structure of the composite.
Open-tubular capillary electrochromatography with bare gold nanoparticles-based stationary phase applied to separation of trypsin digested proteins
Mikšík, Ivan ; Lacinová, Kateřina ; Zmatlíková, Zdeňka ; Sedláková, Pavla ; Král, V. ; Sýkora, D. ; Řezanka, P. ; Kašička, Václav
Open-tubular capillary electrochromatography (OT-CEC) using bare gold nanoparticles-based stationary phase has been applied to separation of tryptic peptide fragments of native and glycated proteins, bovine serum albumin and human transferrin. OT-CEC with bare gold nanoparticles stationary phase was found to be a suitable technique for separation of complex peptide mixtures originating from enzymatic (tryptic) digestion of native and glycated bovine serum albumin and human transferrin, and for glycation studies of these proteins.
Development of radiometric methods for determination of enzyme activities of iodothyronine deiodinases: The influence of antidepressant drug fluoxetine on the types 1, 2 and 3 deiodinase activities in the rat brain
Pavelka, Stanislav
The objectives of the present study were to establish valid assay conditions for measurement of the types 1, 2 and 3 iodothyronine deiodinases activities, and to use the radiometric enzyme assays especially to follow the effects of antidepressant drug fluoxetine (Prozac) on the metabolism of thyroid hormones in the rat
Elastic registration of biomedical images on CUDA-Supported graphics procesor units
Michálek, Jan ; Čapek, Martin ; Janáček, Jiří ; Kubínová, Lucie
Elastic registration is a task of finding the matching of two images, using geometric and elastic transformations, so that objects in images have the same size, position and orientation. We apply elastic registration in the framework of volume reconstruction, where an object acquired from parallel physical sections is composed and mutual positions of the sections including deformations caused by their cutting have to be found. The method lies in optimizing a functional consisting of two parts: first, discrete total variation as a measure of roughness and, second, L1 norm as a measure of dissimilarity of images. As a parallelizable optimization strategy we apply a potential-based equivalent transformation of a (max,+)-labelling problem. CUDA-based implementation of the described elastic registration algorithm is reasonably fast, requires seconds to minutes of calculations, provides good results and, thus, can be used for practical tasks dealing with alignment of biomedical images
Application of morphology filters to compensation of lateral illumination inhomogeneities in confocal microscopy images
Michálek, Jan ; Čapek, Martin ; Mao, X. W. ; Kubínová, Lucie
Due to multiple distortion effects, confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) images of even homogeneous specimen regions suffer from irregular brightness variations. In this paper, a fast correction method based on estimating a spatially variable illumination gain, and multiplying acquired CLSM images by the inverse of the estimated gain, is presented. The method does not require any special calibration (reference) images since the gain estimate is extracted from the CLSM image being corrected itself. The proposed approach exploits two types of morphological filters: the median filter and a morphological operator called the upper Lipschitz cover
Fitting geometrical models to 3D confocal microscopy images using graph cuts iteratively
Janáček, Jiří
A new iterative method for fitting triangulated surfaces and geometric graphs to surfaces and fibre-like structures is based on the calculation of the minimal graph cut in every iteration. The method was used for improvement of the geometric model of muscle fibres surfaces and capillaries in skeletal muscle from 3D confocal image
Genotype and locality effect on growth and development of the root system of winter oilseed rape
Bláha, L. ; Vyvadilová, M. ; Janáček, Jiří
The basic aim of presented work was analysis of root development of different oilseed rape cultivars at two localities. Obtained results show large influence of localities on the root development. The genotypes with good germination under unfavourable conditions (lack of water, drought, high temperature) develop stronger root system i.e. volume and length of the roots after sowing and during following vegetation period at studying localities
Solving image analysis problems by minimization of total variation
Janáček, Jiří
A solution of various problems in image analysis using concurrent minimization of total variation and Lp loss function is presented. The minimization is achieved by a steepest descend method using graph cut minimization in each step. Regularization of noisy image and registration of microscopic images of physical sections are demonstrated
Heart rate and cardiac protection - experimental aspects
Ošťádal, Bohuslav
Low heart rate is maybe cardioprotective; bradycardia increases myocardial blood flow
The use of radioanalytical methods in studies of thyreotoxic effects of exogenous bromide
Pavelka, Stanislav ; Vobecký, Miloslav ; Babický, Arnošt
Very high intake of bromide in the rat dams in the course of lactation period caused a marked decrease in the iodine transfer through nmother´s milk to the suckling. Excessive bromide intake in the mothers caused a marked decrease in the body weight increments in their pups.
