Šmaň, Jakub ; Šteffl, Michal (advisor) ; Maleček, Jan (referee)
This review deals with the effect of omega-3 fatty acids on attention in children diagnosed with ADHD. This is a theoretical work, which has a descriptive-analytical character and is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part describes in detail the information related to the topic. The practical part includes a review of selected articles according to the criteria set by us. Subsequently, the results and a final discussion are processed, where the results of research are compared and the most effective food supplements are evaluated in comparison with placebo. We deal with the shortcomings and limitations of the processed articles, where we determine possible recommendations for future research work and compare the obtained results with the current state of research. Keywords: ADHD, attention, attention disorders, Conner's Rating Scale, fatigue, omega-3, physical activity, perception
The relationship between sarcopenia and two behavioral factors - cigarett smoking and alcohol drinking - meta- analysis
Šteffl, Michal ; Kohlíková, Eva (advisor) ; Rusina, Robert (referee) ; Králíková, Eva (referee)
Background Sarcopenia is one of problems its prevalence and development have been studied in many researches. A meta-analysis focusing to sarcopenia relationships could open the new space for following scientific works. Objectives The main aims of that study were to explore relationships between sarcopenia and cigarette smoking and also sarcopenia and alcohol drinking in relatively healthy people over 65 years old on the basis of recommendation of the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews. Methods Four electronic databases were searched to identify potentially relevant literature for this study. Then the data which contained relevant information were transformed into contingency tables and there were calculated odds ratios (OR) by using those tables. Except OR calculating, there was made systematic review section where the ORs which were transferred from individual studies were collected and assessed. Finally age-adjusted linear regression models were done. Results Out of 373 papers identified as potentially relevant by the database searching, 20 were ultimately included in the meta-analyses. From those papers data of 33,162 participants were analyzed. It was found that OR (95% CI) in cigarette smoking analysis was in males 1.65 (1.16 - 2.35), in females 1.42 (1.09 - 1.85), and in overall...

Štanglerová, Magdaléna ; Baláš, Jiří (advisor) ; Šteffl, Michal (referee)
Title: Predictive validity of the All- out test of finger flexors for climbing performance Objectives: The main aim of the study was to determine the predictive validity of the all-out test of finger flexors during climbing performance for competitive sport climbers in redpoint (RP), on-sight (OS), and bouldering. Methods: The work was carried out as a cross sectional study, in which the relationship among climbing performance and the results of all- out test was researched. The all-out test was implemented by a dominant hand according to the protocol on a specific climbing dynamometer 1D SAC (SpaceLAb Sofia, Bulgaria) on a 23 mm wide rung. The non parametric statistical Mann-Whitney U-test for continuous variables and chi-square test for categorical variables were used in data analysis. Spearman's rank correlation coefficient was used in the correlation analysis. A standardised Beta coefficient was calculated in linear regression models to assess the predictive validity of selected variables from the all-out test. Results: The tested group was consisted of a total of 31 mostly sport climbers aged 30.0 ± 8,6 years, of which 23 were men and 8 women. The highest statistically significant correlation among men was between OS climbing performance and the moment of force from the whole all-out test W...
Bone density in persons after spinal cord injury
Starková, Kateřina ; Coufalová, Klára (advisor) ; Šteffl, Michal (referee)
Title: Bone density in people after spinal cord injury Objective: The purpose of this paper is to determine the levels of bone mineral density in people following a spinal cord injury. The levels are measured using a DXA device and the results are subsequently evaluated. Methods: The thesis is composed of eight independent case studies. A non-standardized 14 open and closed question survey was used for quantifying purposes. Answering the questions was a necessary prerequisite for participation in the survey. The measured results of bone density and body composition were used for data analysis, together with the survey, in comparison with other studies. Results: Eight probands (four women and four men) participated in the research. Based on the obtained data, we can state that all probands (n=8) record a decrease in bone mineral density to the level of Osteopenia. Better bone mineral density measurements have not been confirmed in individuals with lower spinal cord lesions. Probands who regularly engaged in sports and daily training before spinal injuries have better results in densitometric measurements. Furthermore, it can be confirmed that probands with a past compression fracture have worse measurement results than probands without a past fracture. However, due to the low number of measured...
