Its source is primary the Culture Directory from the year 1934, respectively the kvantification of its informations. This informations or profiles are analyzed through categories of position in hieararchy in historography, nationality, lokalization and specialization. According this categories we can see many different ways of creating symbolic representation in our set of historians. The phenomene of change in time and trends we can see by using category of generation, defined objectively every ten years according the date of birth. Thanks variability of categories we can see the plurality of ways of creating symbolic representation. For exact analysis of symbolic representation we use a concept of "field of representations" where the representations make a really exactly defined units. Their complicated struktures create a symbolic representation of whole czechoslovac historiography. By using a kvantification we can see the facts, which are by other method unachievable.
Genesis of the Belarussian National Identity (1863-1958)
Linitskaya, Natallia ; Štaif, Jiří (advisor) ; Pullmann, Michal (referee)
The study follows the process of the construction of belarussian national identity between the second half of the 19th and the first half of the 20th centuries in terms of community of name, language, territory and historical memories. This subjective foundation of a nation does not blend in the belarussian case with the civic model. Historical memory of Kalinovski's Uprising demonstrates the dubiousness of using a common historical past which itself corresponds with that of Russia and Poland. On the contrary, the allocating of belarussian national identity according to social demands was convinient. Unsuccesful vindication of the historical legacy of "Litva" and the failure of Belarussian to become the language of bureaucracy caused a decoupling of the genealogical bonds from the national identity. The longing of "tutejshi" for social happiness facilitated the appropriation of national identity as essentially a soviet one. Belarussians are becoming Belarussians as toiling people who are emancipated in a national state, deliniated by the colonial map. Keywords: Belarus, national identity, nationalism, national state, belorussification, «tutejshi»

Not like us. The social marginalization and integration of minorities in the Czech borderlands while "building the new order" (1945-1960)
Spurný, Matěj ; Štaif, Jiří (advisor) ; Pavelčíková, Nina (referee) ; Brenner, Christiane (referee)
This work considers the changing attitudes of Czech society and its political élite towards minorities in the restored nation-state of Czechoslovakia after the Second World War and in the period of the coming to power of the Czechoslovak Communist Party and the stabilization of its dictatorship. To this end, it examines three very heterogeneous minority groups: the ethnic Germans remaining after the expulsions, the Gypsies (Roma), and the Volhynian Czechs. The Czech borderlands (former Sudetenland) were a distinctive space; the processes that took place there are analysed in detail in this work. The discourses and the strategies of legitimation, as well as conflicts and negotiations at the local level, are considered in particular. The aim of the work is to reveal the ideological starting points that the key political actors turned into concrete political aims and the influence that they had on specific events in the border areas, and also the influence that the thinking and notions of local actors had on the transformation of policy and even ideology. Consequently, the work presents a vivid picture of the often ambiguous attitudes amongst the individual components of the Party and State apparat (the senior leadership of the Communist Party, the individual ministries, and the regional and local...

In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to work with the relevant theoretical concepts explaining the creation of interaction between stage and auditorium. This background was found in the field of sociology and cultural studies. The thesis is divided into four chapters. They are concerned to the specifying of influence on the program formation at first. A crucial role in this process was played by the directors who rented the theatre. Hence, the essential parts of work are concerned with the personalities of single directors (with their praxis, strategies etc.). Furthermore, other important parts of the thesis are repertoire analyzes of single periods. These sections highlight the various genres and their relationship to the society. In the first half of the 19th century, we meet with the cardinal phenomenon - a tragedy and comedy of middle-class (bourgeoisie) environment. Outer factors influencing image creation of the USSR in Czechoslovakia between World Wars
Lomíček, Jan ; Jančík, Drahomír (referee) ; Štaif, Jiří (advisor)
There were several outer aspects influencing the image of Soviet Russia in Czechoslovakia between World Wars. On the one hand it was Soviet propaganda using all possible means at that time to create abroad a positive image of SSSR. On the other hand, there were various control mechanisms and institutions monitoring foreigners in the Soviet territory. It was VOKS (The All- Union Society for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries ) and the Soviet state travel agency Intourist, to name the most significant of them. The amount of places the visitors were able to visit was limited, just as the available information and that is why the reality shown in their literary works was distorted. The writers who tried to present an objective description of the situation in the Soviet Union were often dependent on theoretical information without the possibility to verify their theories in practice. A significant number of leftwing intelectuals considered the dictatorship of the proletariat to be a political vanguard. They sticked to these beliefs because they did not have any opportunity to discover the real consequences of Bolshevik government on the people in the Soviet Union.
