The role of social media in communication of political leaders

It is a well-known that the role of social media in contemporary political communication is increasing. A great deal is being written and said about the online campaign of Barack Obama in 2008. In our environment, dispel any doubt in this regard, the presidential elections in January 2013. However, the attention of scientists is primarily focused on the analysis of online communication during the election campaign. Against this background, the bachelor thesis aims to analyze communication in a period when no election campaign is taking place. Our purpose is not to focus on the political parties, as it is usual in the Czech political environment, but we try to apply the concept of personalization on the communication of political leaders. Through the analysis of data collected from facebook's profiles of six leaders, we are trying to capture the character and basic trends of political communication on social network sites.
Political Communication on Social Media: Comparative Analysis of Czech and Swedish Greens

Social media has changed political communication. Politicians social media posts, which are often prepared by their political marketers, fill content of traditional media. In this thesis the theoretical concepts of political communication on social media are presented. This thesis deals with how Strana zelených (Czech Greens) and Miljöpartiet de Gröna (Swedish Greens) communicate on social media, respectively it compares who and what is behind this communication on various political levels. It is demonstrated through thematic analysis, which is based on data from semi-structured interviews with administrators of selected social media profiles; through frequency analysis of types of posts on social media; and through quantitative analysis from the international project Online political communication strategies in 28 EU countries. The thesis describes the structures of the communication teams of both sides at different levels, and it describes the processes how the Facebook posts are created and who makes them. It also describes what communication strategies they use in interaction with Facebook users.

Global television formats and their adaptation in Central Europe

The aim of this diploma thesis is to describe how successfully are global television formats adapted in the region of Central Europe. Media systems in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia were considerably transformed after the fall of communism in the 1990s. Television markets started to be built within the new media systems. This thesis describes a globalization theory with focus on the concepts of cultural imperialism and cultural globalization. Emergence of the global television formats is one of the most visible processes within the globalization. There is a prevailing opinion presently that the global formats contributes in some ways to cultural heterogenization and pluralization. Local adaptations of global formats acquire meanings of national culture. The term glocalisation is connected with spreading of the global formats. This term is nowadays used more often than the term globalisation in relation to global formats. This diploma thesis is concerned with the adaptation of formats in the countries of Central Europe. Popularity of global formats in this region is compared on the basis of ratings. Media and negative political campaign: czech parliamentary election in 2013

The main objective of the thesis is to analyse the role of selected Czech dailies and online news servers during the assertion of negative political campaigns before Czech parliamentary elections in 2013. The research led to answering the question, how were the newspapers, in comparison to the servers, concerned with the transfer of negative contents performed by Czech political subjects during the period of election campaigning. As the source of analysed data, the thesis used dailies Mlada fronta Dnes and Pravo and online news servers Aktualne.cz and iHNed.cz. The thesis observed a share of negative evaluative remarks in the news content dealing with the topic of Czech political campaign which was concerned with the negative campaigning of Czech political parties, as well as the way in which was this topic commented by the selected media. Crucial part of the thesis is a comparison of the parliamentary elections of 2013 with the preceding elections of 2006 and 2010. The aim was to show how the elections of 2013 fit in a trend of utilisation of negative political communication in Czech setting and how has changed the media coverage of the phenomenon during the observed years. The influence of new internet concerns on transformation of the traditional publishing house in central Europe

The thesis "The Influence of New Internet Concerns on Transformation of the Traditional Publishing Houses in Central Europe", based on the media convergence theory and theoretical sources from the area of current trends in media field, focuses on changes the traditional publishing houses are going through. The paper maps the digital portfolio of the traditional media houses of Axel Springer in the German market and of media houses of Mafra, Bauer Media and CME in the Czech market. The paper parallely focuses on portfolio of the chosen global Internet companies and the relationships between these new media concerns and the traditional publishing houses, focuses on the competitive advantages of the examined online platforms of the new Internet companies, which potentially compete by their aims with the tradidional publishers. The paper also focuses on the advantages and the options for the users and advertisers, and on the mutual cooperation and dependenncy of the both types of media concerns.
The growth of Nollywood against the backdrop of globalization processes in the media world

The Nigerian entertainment industry called Nollywood has for several years been one of the top audiovisual producers worldwide in regards to the volume of media produced. However, its market is to a large extent isolated from the dominant media flows, which has inspired interest for a detailed study of its role in the global cultural scene. The thesis is a theoretical treatise about the history and the present situation of Nollywood, which the author discusses in the context of the two seemingly oppositional paradigms of the globalization discourse: cultural imperialism and cultural globalization. To gather the most up-to-date and the most complex information, the thesis uses theoretical methods, such as the analysis, synthesis and comparison of the articles found in science journals and literature. The text is comprised of three main parts. After a brief introduction into the current situation in Nigeria and the historical development of its audiovisual media, the second chapter discusses the birth of Nollywood for the first time in the Czech academia, as well as its current production and distribution principles.
