Petrtýlová, Katarína ; Šafařík, Petr (advisor) ; Šmidrkal, Václav (referee)
This thesis researches the depiction of Turkish stereotypes in German cinematography. Specifically, it investigates gender stereotypes in Turkish family as seen through the lens of German society and represented in German cinematography; this study accentuates the issue of gender stereotypes in Turkish family as most controversial, debated, and potent in terms of shaping the media image of Germany's Turkish community. The thesis covers long films of German production that deal with the issue of Germany's Turkish community. It spans the time period between 1970, when films covering the Turkish issue began to appear in Germany, and 2010, which enables to maintain a sufficient distance to investigate the film production. Theoretically, the thesis sets itself the task of researching stereotypes, providing its definitions, typologies, and discussing its relevance in research on cinematographic production. It then sheds light on the evolution of the image of a Turk in German society. It also provides a brief historical overview of German film production dealing with the issues of Turkish-German cohabitation in Germany. In the empirical part, the thesis explores two most representative films of the researched period (Gegen die Wand, by Fatih Akin, drama, 2004; die Fremde, by feo Aladag, drama, 2010) in...

Kyselý, Milan ; Kopeček, Michal (advisor) ; Šmidrkal, Václav (referee)
The objective of this thesis is to answer the question why is the Munich complex so essential for samizdat and tamizdat authors, how important was its influence on moral decline of the Czech nation, what was its role in the inability to avoid communist plot in 1948 or in the fail of the Prague spring. . The methodological approach of the presented historical-critical analysis of Munich complex in political thinking of dissent and democratic opposition in exile stems from the interpretation of history of ideas by Aloysius P. Martinich, and the conception of symbolic center by Miloš Havelka. In the introductory part, I analyze the Munich agreement in its historical context and the interpretation of events leading to Munich in the official Communist historiography during the sixties and seventies. It is important for better orientation in individual approaches of analyzed authors. The main focus of the thesis is the analysis of publications relating to Munich events from chosen authors. I confront their conclusions with interpretation of Jan Tesař, whose work is the culmination of samizdat discussion about this topic. There is no unified definition of the Munich complex. It is is mostly associated with president Edvard Beneš and moral decline of the Czech nation. Almost all authors mention the need to...

In terms of time the topic of this thesis is delimited by the period between 1989 and 2012. The aim of the thesis is to verify the fulfilment of Karl Deutsch's concept of transactionalism on the example of this particular cooperation. For this purpose the author examines three areas on which she demonstrates the fulfilment of this concept - compatibility of states in the view of police cooperation, existence of a common interest and forms of interaction and their development. The diploma thesis consists of four chapters. Firstly, the author studies the concept of border as a place of clash and contact which analytically helps to fulfil Deutsch's concept. Furthermore, she draws attention to the institutional base of police cooperation. She presents not only the way of...

GDR-Nostalgia in the Former East Germany and Politics of Memory of the PDS
Novosadová, Alena ; Konrád, Ota (advisor) ; Šmidrkal, Václav (referee)
In 1990 when the GDR and FRG were united, there was a lot of optimism about the future of the new state. However, after few years after this historical event, both West and East Germans felt disillusioned by the transformation process. The sensation of the East Germans was named GDR-nostalgia or the so called Ostalgie, nostalgic longing for the former GDR. This feeling was rooted both in the objective socio-economic situation and in the feeling of loss in the biographies of the East Germans. This paper deals with the political dimension of the GDR-nostalgia, focusing on the political party PDS, a successor party of the communist state party SED. Despite the pessimistic prophecies about the PDS the party was growing steadily in the East. The East Germans felt that the party represents their particular interests in the united Germany. Yet the PDS didn't use a chance to deal critically with its controversial history. The hypothesis is, that the party, by presenting an idealistic version of the GDR past to the public and their potential voters, tried to strengthen the nostalgia feeling in order to gain votes. To prove the thesis the structure of the party, its program and history institutions will be examined. The concept of politics of memory will be described.
