"Democratization of mass media" - influence penetration amateur contributions to traditional media

Cílem diplomové práce je charakterizovat současný stav a podobu masmédií s přihlédnutím na jejich rostoucí demokratizaci. Autor sleduje a popisuje stále výraznější pronikání amatérů do tradičních médií, které se děje prostřednictvím nových internetových médií jako jsou weblogy nebo online video. Při zkoumání problematiky weblogů autor částečně navazuje na vlastní bakalářskou práci "Weblog jako novodobý elektronický informační zdroj". Diplomová práce je rozdělena do tří hlavních částí. První část Tradiční média se zabývá klasickými médii - tiskem, rozhlasem a televizí. Druhá a nejrozsáhlejší část Novodobá internetová média sleduje nové formy multimediální komunikace, které s sebou přináší rozvoj internetu. Je rozčleněna na čtyři kapitoly popisující weblogy, online video, sociální sítě a wiki systémy. V třetí části Demokratizace masmédií autor hodnotí aktuální trendy v oblasti masmédií, věnuje se zvýšené aktivitě uživatelů a zabývá se také problematikou cenzury médií.

Semantic web - the ontological future Internet

The theme of this thesis is a description of the history, current state and the future development of the semantic web and its technologies within the assumptions of World Wide Web Consortium - W3C. It mainly covers the principles of this concept in correlation with an unfulfilled potential of World Wide Web in the area of information retrieval using machinereadable data. The first part of the text provides deeper information about logical basis and technological aspects of the semantic web. Above all it deals with the basic data model for most of the semantic languages and applications - the RDF (Resource Description Framework) and the URI (Uniform Resource Identifier) used for the identification of web based or even non-web based resources. The second part of the thesis deals with some basic facts of the problems of the semantic web to gain mass support for its development. Among this there is a broader description of the most important contemporary semantic applications, including the leading one - the DBpedia knowledge base created by several German universities. In the last part the philosophical connotations linked to the transformation of user experience within the semantic web are mentioned, so as is the overall impact on the web community and the global society.

eHealth: new media in health service

Práce mapuje možnosti využití nových médií v oblasti zdravotnictví. Jsou zde představeny české i zahraniční projekty využívající mobilní technologie, internet a televizní a rozhlasové vysílání ke zlepšení komunikace mezi lékaři i mezi lékařem a pacientem, a také ke zvýšení informovanosti veřejnosti o zdravotnických tématech. V úvodní části jsou vysvětleny hlavní pojmy práce - eHealth a nová média. V dalších kapitolách jsou jednotlivá média představena a následuje výběr konkrétních zdravotnických projektů. Závěrečná kapitola je věnována využívání nových médií v komunikaci mezi lékařem a pacientem v České republice a vychází z dotazníkového průzkumu na toto téma.

Mashups and the API Culture

Thesis examines the current state of development and possible directions for further growth in the creation and use of mashups and hybrid application software that works with the application programming interface (API). At the beginning, the work examines the development of technologies that have enabled the creation of mashups and hybrid applications. The thesis also examines the economic aspects and sets the trend of using the API within the context of reasoning on Web 2.0. Another part deals with the typology of mashups, their division is viewed from several angles: Based on the integration of mashups, data origin, used protocols and functions. Particular attention shall be given to the dominant group of map mashups. Text also outlines the issues that may make reuse of data via the API questionable. This part deals with questions of privacy and surveillance, the issue of protection of virtual property, the risk of application failure or unavailability. The work also includes a practical part, creating an application using the API of Foursquare, a Location Based Service (LBS). Also, the service Foursquare is presented in the context of Location Based Services in general.

Travel 2.0 - new forms of tourism in the age of evolving web 2.0 technologies

Tématem diplomové práce je fenomén web 2.0, respektive jeho aplikace a služby zaměřené na oblast turismu a cestovního ruchu - tzv. travel 2.0. Cílem práce je vymezit pojem travel 2.0, upozornit na jeho přínosy uživatelům a prozkoumat, jakým způsobem travel 2.0 ovlivňuje turismus a cestovní ruch a jaký je jeho další potenciál v této oblasti (jaký vliv má např. na ekonomické, sociologické či environmentální aspekty turismu). První část práce je věnována teoretickým aspektům a principům webu 2.0, ale také technologickému pozadí této problematiky. Pojednány jsou jednotlivé charakteristiky webu 2.0 včetně kritiky celého konceptu. Další část práce se zabývá lidovou tvořivostí na internetu a možnostmi tvorby sdíleného obsahu v kontextu problematiky travel 2.0 se zaměřením na blog a mashup. Ve třetí části je zkoumán vliv travel 2.0 služeb na ekonomické aspekty turismu a dopady na spotřebitelské chování uživatelů těchto služeb. Pojednán je také vztah globalizace a turismu. Čtvrtá část je věnována alternativním formám turismu a významnému působení travel 2.0 na tuto podoblast cestovního ruchu. Poslední část se pak zabývá možnostmi travel 2.0 na poli trvale udržitelného rozvoje turismu a jeho využitím pro šetrné a zodpovědné cestování vzhledem k environmentálním a dalším otázkám.

Internet magazine as a specific communications vehicle

This work presents theory of internet periodicals. There is a presentation of new media in the introduction. The next chapters bring the characterisation and the typologies of internet periodicals and look for the occasions of new functions. Main attention is devoted to webzines as the most progressive communications vehicles. This work confirms validity of remediation theory, judges the trend of web 2.0 and aims at the possition of internet periodicals in potential renaissance of public society. The work also brings the ideas of future development of internet periodicals in way of a semantic web.

Semiotic interpretation of Kant's aesthetics

The Semiotic lnterpretation of Kanťs Aesthetics deals with the relations between Peirce's serniotic concepts and some aspects of Kant' s philosophy and aesthetics. The first part, named Peirce And His Philosophy, presents basic terms and concepts of Peirce's philosophy. The second part, named Kanťs aesthetics, identifies some mutual elements of Peirce's and Kanťs approach. Therefore it interprets some basic concepts of Kanťs philosophy and aesthetics as semiotic, namely it tries to define the concept of beauty and sublimity by means of Peirce's distinction of icon and index. In the following analysis the text focuses on the aspect of subjectivation and sensuality in the experience of beauty and sublimity. Finally, the third part, named The Leve/s of Thought, shows that this interpretation belongs to a wider context of human thought levels based on the axes of the irrational/rational and absurdity/active skepticism.

DSLR Video and its Impact on the Conventions in Filmmaking

The thesis deals with the involvement of digital single-lens reflex cameras (DSLR) with video-capturing capacity in documentary and ethnographic film, more particularly, it examines whether and to what extent these genres were influenced by a trend called DSLR revolution. The main contribution of the work is a qualitative analysis of the testimonies of ten filmmakers, who used DSLR cameras while working on their films during the years 2010-2014. The synthesis of this analysis is conceptualised as a reconstruction of the process of decision-making whether to use or not to use a DSLR camera, considering its benefits (affordability, technical and aesthetic qualities, compactness and simplicity) and its limits (ergonomics, visual artifacts, workflow limits). The reconstruction of this decision-making process is considered in the context of specific experiences of the participants and it focuses on the impact of DSLRs on filming workflow and final product. The final chapter deals with the DSLR revolution as a social trend which was stimulated by the influence of online communities of DSLR filmmakers who actively participated in the course of the revolution. Bioart - Concept and Development

The aim of this diploma thesis is Bioart, new media art discipline, which is represented by a narrow group of authors. Bioart is often referred to by variety of names and the term itself is not uniformly defined. The work offers a comprehensive definition of the term as an art area that creates space for social reflection of scientific knowledge through its reflection of modern science. The thesis also describes respective artistic, philosophical and historical context of the term. At the same time, the thesis examines aspects of contemporary bioart from the perspective of the artists working in this field of art by interviewing them. The thesis is divided into three main chapters. The first chapter deals with Bioart as a term on theoretical level and introduces the interviewed artists. The second chapter summarizes the historical background of Bioart. The third chapter introduces the overlap of Bioart on ethics, safety and engagement of artists and the public in science. V posledních letech se stává světovým trendem tzv. datová žurnalistika, neboli využívání pokročilé práce s velkými objemy dat v novinařině. Pomalu si hledá cestu i do českých redakcí, systematická práce s daty je ale zatím spíše záležitostí odvážných pionýrů. Cílem workshopu bylo přiblížit českému publiku základní metody práce datové analýzy. Na konkrétních datech jsme si ukázali širokou škálu postupů: strukturování, čištění, interpretaci a vizualizaci dat.
