Vietnamese in Czechia and the World: Migration and Adaptation Tendencies

The PhD thesis 'Vietnamese in Czechia and the world: migration and adaptation tendencies' sheds light on the development of international migration of the Vietnamese since the mid 20th century to the present with special emphasis on Czechia as a country of destination. The main aim is to identify the key factors that initiate international migration of the Vietnamese and how they determine main directions of these movements, affect migrants' and non-migrants' expectations and determine adaptation strategies. In this respect, the methodology of the paper is based on the combination of macro-level and micro-level approaches. Therefore, the thesis brings an analysis of main structural factors encouraging international migration of the Vietnamese such as economic development, economic and political reforms Đổi Mới and pro-emigration policy of the Vietnamese government; and also an analysis of actors' personal interpretations of these factors. The key part of the thesis is also identifying the transformation of importance of these factors depending on the stage of migration and on the socio-economic-political context of migration or migration-decision making. An Impact of Reemigration on National Identity

Introduced diploma thesis presents the results of the research project which investigated the impact on the national identity. The goal of the research project was to find out with a help of the quality research, in detail an anchored theory, the central phenomenon in the perception of the national identity. The results of the anchored theory shows, that this phenomenon is level of adaptation of the individual on the environment respectively level of acculturation and flowingly level of reintegration. Intervene conditions, such as strategy of the handling of the stress situations, work success or family and friends' bounds also influence this phenomenon. Main context line in this direction presents emigration and re-emigration of the individual with all the possible causes and intervene conditions. Important part of the context line is the fact of the leaving of the individual itself, including his or hers preparation for leaving the country. This in its' nature determines even the process of acculturation of the individual in emigration with the impact on the perception of the national identity. The deportation of the Kalmyks to Siberia (1943 - 1957)

Diploma thesis Deportation of the Kalmyk people to Siberia (1943-1957) is devoted to one of the tragic chapters in the history of the Kalmyks, people living in the Lower Volga region in Russia. In the diploma thesis the issue of the Kalmyk deportation in the Soviet Union during World War II is analysed in a broader context. The issue of deportation as a foudation of the thesis is put into a wider context. The concept of deportation and repressive policies was established by a state government in the first half of the 20th century. Deportations were used by the apparatus of government of the Soviet Union as one of the forms of repressive sanctions to regulate conditions in the state. Political, social and economic situation in the first half of the 20th century in Russia was impacted by the Stalinist period. The period of J. V. Stalin's rule over the Soviet Union (1922-1952) was entered into the history of Russia as a period of mass repressions (collectivization, persecution of the kulaks, church dignitaries and political dissenters, the "great terror", deportations on the eve of World War II, total deportations during the World War II). Repressions were one of the strategies used by the government to concentrate power in the hands of the Communist Party and to strengthen the regime in the country....
Armenian community in the Czech Republic

This thesis deals with the life of Armenian immigrants in the Czech Republic, especially in Prague Armenian community. The thesis begins with a theoretical part, which contains two chapters. The first chapter deals with the ethnogenesis and history of the nation. The historical part is discussed rather briefly, but seeks all the moments that were crucial for the Armenians. In the second chapter, I write about important incentives for migration and the global Armenian diaspora. The main part of the thesis is based on field research among the migrants, which ran from February to April 2013. This chapter resolves the issue migration, integration into the new environment, the identity of Armenians, community relations and relations with other nations. I also document here the overall opinion of the Armenians on the Czech Republic. The last chapter is the result of a questionnaire survey among the citizens of Czech nationality, to detect their knowledge and opinion about Armenia and Armenians.
Albanian community in Prague

Bachelor thesis focuses on the Albanian community in Prague, particularly the Kosovo Albanians and Albanians from Albania. It was developed based on field research and study of literature and Internet sources. The work is divided into six chapters. The introductory part is a topic of work. The second chapter describes the sources used and the respondents. The third focuses on the methodology of work, then on field research conducted through interviews and questionnaires. In the theoretical part of the work focused on the issue of Czech-Albanian relations and the country, where Albanians live. Empirical processes of field research conducted among Albanian respondents. In the last part of the thesis is summarized.
Development Work and Development Projects Focused on Roma in the Czech Republic from 1989 to the Present

The aim of this thesis is to map areas of development work with Roma in the Czech Republic after 1989. It is mentioned the situation before the Velvet Revolution to better understanding the context. A number of problems were caused at that time. These problems are addressed by development work today. In the thesis the current situation of Roma is outlined as well as the problems that the Roma have to solve. It is emphasized the shift from state solutions of problems of Roma to non-governmental organizations that have taken part of the states tasks in relation to Roma. The thesis also deals with the concept of international development. It tries to show its influence on local development which can draw and learn from its mistakes. The most important part of the thesis is the chapter that is dedicated to areas in which it is working with Roma. General information in this section are completed by practical findings from research which was conducted with staff of three non-governmental organizations.
Vietnamese immigrants at Czech Republic - 2nd generation

Second and one-and-half generation of the Vietnamese migrants is a very specific part of the Vietnamese in the Czech Republic. There are several differences between the second and the first generation, i.e. between young Vietnamese and their parents. However, they are similar in many ways. The aim of this master thesis is to discuss the situation of the second and the one-and-half generation of the Vietnamese migrants in the Czech Republic and to show some of the differences between the young generation and the generation of their parents. This work also tries to check some of the well-known claims about the young Vietnamese in the Czech Republic. The work consists of two main parts. The first part is theoretical and it is based on the literature and other scientific resources. It deals with the history of Vietnamese coming to the Czech Republic. It explains how the second generation finds itself in the Czech Republic. There were several waves of the migration and each of them is different in many ways. The work also includes the chapter about the influence on the Confucianism on the Vietnamese education. The influence of the Confucianism on the Vietnamese society can be seen until these days. Ethnicity in China - Who are the Hui and who are the Dungan?

Ethnicity in China - Who are the Hui and Who are the Dungan? The thesis has three main objectives: (1) to develop a concept appropriate for the comparison of different ethnicities, (2) to use this concept to identify differences of ethnicity in China, and (3) to analyse these differences in the cases of the Huis and the Dungans. The second section postulates the concept of ethnicity as a secondary identity, and this becomes the main theoretical and methodological frame of the work. Six primary identities and dimensions, that together form the components of ethnicity, are discussed. Policy, which is interpreted as a context of ethnicity, and (ethno)culture, understood as an expression of ethnicity, are not seen as components. The concept enables the comparison of distinct perceptions (emic) and qualitative atributes (etic) of ethnicity from six main perspectives. The third chapter is focused on ethnicity and the ethnic policies of China. The central objective is to define a Chinese official category minzu, its position in the context of European concepts of ethnicity and nation, and its comparison with the concept of nation in the Soviet tradition, which represents minzu's template.
