Depiction of Slovakia in Czech artistic milieu until 1918
Ernestová, Simona ; Rakušanová, Marie (advisor) ; Šámal, Petr (referee)
This bachelor thesis examines the image of Slovakia in the Czech artistic milieu from the mid-19th century to 1918, the year Czechoslovakia was established. It focuses on how Slovakia and Slovaks were depicted in the works of Czech artists such as Josef Mánes, F. B. Zvěřina, Mikoláš Aleš, Jaroslav Augusta, Emil Pacovský and Miloš Jiránek. It presents Slovak mountaineers, robbers and tinker craftsmen as symbolic of Slovaks. This image was created against the background of the building of Czech national identity, at a time when Hungarian Slovakia was part of Hungaria and the Czech lands were part of Austria. With the help of the Slavic, Detvian and Czechoslovak myths, which some Czech artists reflected and subsequently developed, the image of a weaker, friendly Slavic nation fighting against strong Hungarian oppression was created. Two non-art exhibitions that had their share in the perception of Slovakia by Czech artists - the Jubilee Exhibition and the Ethnographic Exhibition - are also set in the context of the Czech artistic milieu. The study also highlights the different interpretations at the time of the creation of the artworks, after the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic and after the communist takeover in the 1950s.

The thesis also considers significant portrait works and delineates the late phase of Hynais's oeuvre, which correlates with the dichotomy between progressiveness and conservatism, particularly within the context of academicism. In this context, the thesis also examines Hynais's pedagogical endeavors at the Prague Academy, revealing, among other aspects, the influence he exerted as a professor, not solely limited to the younger generation. The concluding section of the Bachelor's thesis aims to address the question of progressiveness versus conservatism in the body of work by Vojtěch Hynais.

The Battle of Abukir by Antoine-Jean Gros and her "second life".
Lembaková, Valerie ; Prahl, Roman (advisor) ; Šámal, Petr (referee)
Chromolithographic reproduction experienced a significant boom during the 19th century, both domestically and internationally. It gained considerable popularity, particularly in the realms of advertising and posters, thanks to its technique. Color lithography, specifically the four-color process, was frequently used, especially for reproducing oil paintings, representing a high technique of chromolithography. An example of this is a specific chromolithograph, printed on canvas, depicting "The Battle of Aboukir" by Antoine-Jean Gros from a private collection. The primary source for understanding successful contemporaries of Gros and the influence of their master, Jacques-Louis David, is Thomas Crown's publication "Emulation: Making Artists For Revolutionary France." A detailed report by Ann Friedman provides information on the origin and creation of the original artwork, based on which the reproduction was made. Discussions on various assumptions regarding the nature of the chromolithograph draw from consultations and perspectives of various art historians. Important sources include a restoration report and specialized articles focusing on color lithography in France, including specialized trade and reproductions of chromolithography. Based on these references, I will attempt to analyze the...

Šámal, Petr ; Pátková, Hana (advisor) ; Kubín, Petr (referee)
This bachelor thesis is concerned with the analysis of sources regarding the history of the monastery of Doksany in the years 1420-1526. Its author collects the charters of this period, preserved in the original or as a copy. He also tries to map the editions, in which these materials have been published in later times. Based on available literature, he then strives to express the main aspects of the gradual renewal of the monastery life after the Hussite devastation. He splits the topic into a few areas: he addresses the administration of the monastery, its chief representatives, its contacts with similar institutions; subsequently, he turns his attention to the aspect of the Post-Hussite existence of Doksany, which is most thoroughly documented by the charters - to its economic situation and its development. In the final part of the thesis, he performs the diplomatic analysis. He divides the charters according to their originators into groups of charters issued by the monastery, by the king, by noble people, by cities, by citizens, by subjects and by clerics.
