Oravec, Jan ; Říhová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Juřičková, Lucie (referee)
The submitted thesis focuses on the analysis of conchological finds from archaeological layers in the Lumbe Garden situated on the north forecourt of Prague Castle (Prague, Czech Republic). The collection of the conchological finds was discovered during archaeological research realized in the years 2018 and 2019. The first part of this text describes the historical development and the effect of the usage of conchological methods in archaeology, taking into account the results of some other research. The following description of the garden area formation helps to understand the fundamental features of this area, where the geological subsoil allowed the conservation of this large collection of malacological finds. The core of this study is the analysis of conchological material. Together with the description of used methods, all detected taxa of molluscs are identified and described. Four species of common freshwater and terrestrial gastropods, four taxa of routine freshwater bivalves and two genera of marine molluscs were identified. Further, their presence in archaeological layers is explained and discussed, with support of other conchological analysis. The limited number of the detected mollusc species contributed to the knowledge about the area under investigation where natural conditions...

Their validity is affected by a small number of...
Threads and Nets Made By Invertebrates
Šuláková, Eva ; Říhová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Hanel, Lubomír (referee)
This diploma thesis is focused on the silk production of invertebrates. The aim of the work is to systematically introduce important species and describe the purpose of their silk production. The ability to produce silk is widespread in many insect families. The production of proteinaceous fibers also occurs in arachnids and (in the form of byssus threads) also in mollusks. The Domestic Silk Moth (Bombyx mori) is an economically important insect, being a primary producer of silk. Hence, an integral part of the thesis focuses on Domestic Silk Moth. In this thesis all developmental stages of Silk Moth (from an egg to an adult) are described. In the past, efforts to breed silkworms also appeared in the Czech lands. Therefore, a short chapter of the thesis is devoted to the history of sericulture. Furthermore, this thesis describes methods of rearing silkworm larvae. For students of Natural Sciences and Biology, it is crucial to be in touch with live objects. Because the silkworm rearing is quite simple, it is possible to incorporate this topic to the school projects about holometabolous insects. The practical part of this thesis contains schedule of practical exercise about silk moths. And in final section of practical part, worksheets for lower-secondary students are presented. Keywords: silkworm...

In my thesis I deal with the pollen of allergenic plants, the origin and proces of allergy to plant pollen and the inclusion of these topics in the teaching of plant biology in high schools. In the theoretical part I focus on topic of pollen allergy. First, I generally describe allergy and its origin, causes of allergic diseases, environmental factors and the development of allergic disease. I also briefly address the naming and registration of allergens and I also mention the so-called cross-allergy. Great emphasis is placed on pollen allergy, which is devoted to a larger unit, divided into individual subchapters dealing with the physiological function of the nose, followed by an allergic reaction of type I, an allergic reaction that occurs on the nasal mucosa. Furthermore, subchapters mentioning the classification of allergic rhinitis, diagnosis and pharmacotherapy, including additions to the drug groups used in the treatment of pollen allergy. Another larger unit is devoted to the structure of the plant's blossom as a source of allergen, which includes the anatomy of the blossom parts and a description of the pollen grain. The anatomical description of the blossom is followed by a practical part, first created by a tabular overview with selected allergenic plants. Each plant causing the allergy...
Acanthamoeba: A Threat to the Human Eye
Veselá, Kateřina ; Říhová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Škodová, Jana (referee)
This thesis examines unicellular microorganism of the genus Acanthamoeba, as well as the disease it causes - acanthamoeba keratitis. It is an eye disease, which occurs mainly in people using contact lenses. Since acanthamoeba attacks visual apparatus, several parts of the thesis are dedicated to the anatomy of said apparatus, especially to the eye ball. The symptoms, diagnostics, treatment as well as prevention of the disease are included as well. The thesis furthemore mentions individual types of contact lenses, their proper hygiene and care and most of all, the danger, that comes with improper handling - acanthamoeba keratitis. A survey, that took place among elementary school and high school students, found out, that almost none of the elementary school students wear contact lenses, whereas contact lenses are worn by approximately 15% of students at high school. Among other issues, the survey concludes, that only a small part of elementary school students prefers contact lenses to glasses, though glasses are needed by a vast majority of them. At high school level, wearing contact lenses becomes more common, for aesthetics or other reasons. Ophtalmologist is regularly visited by 35 % of interviewed students. An analysis of six different natural science and biology textbooks for the 8th grade of...
