Chemistry education at secondary schools of civil engineering in the Czech Republic
Dvořák, Martin ; Čtrnáctová, Hana (advisor) ; Kolář, Karel (referee) ; Rovnaník, Pavel (referee)
Title Chemistry education at secondary schools of civil engineering in the Czech Republic Abstract The goal of this work is to evaluate the chemistry education at secondary schools of civil engineering in the Czech Republic, which provide education of four-year study programs with school leaving exam. At first, question form of data gathering was used at the part of these schools. The general goal was narrowed by analyzing the answers of a questionnaire and the next work was concentrated on creating a study material containing themes of the chemistry of building materials. This material was used during the period of its creation and was modified due to the reactions of the students. The material was then extended with themes of general, inorganic, organic chemistry and biochemistry. The learning material was extended to the form of practice book, which has been used as a main educational tool for the chemistry education. The learning material was evaluated by theoretical methodology and by anonymous questionnaire filled by students. The objective evaluation of the impact of the learning material on the school grades was analyzed through five years. Key words Chemistry of building materials, secondary schools, learning material, workbook.
Selection and structuring of the curriculum on the example of synthetic macromolecular matter in secondary school chemistry
Vlčková, Tereza ; Čtrnáctová, Hana (advisor) ; Stratilová Urválková, Eva (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the content and structure of the curriculum of synthetic macromolecular substances at the grammar school level. In the theoretical part there is introduced the content of education, today's curricular documents and the most frequently used chemistry textbooks at grammar schools. Furthermore, there is defined the content and structure of the curriculum and there are introduced options of graphical illustration of the curricular structure by the usage of the right computer programmes. The practical part of this bachelor thesis includes an analysis of chosen school education programmes and the most frequently used chemistry textbooks. Based on this analysis there was created a graphical illustration of the content and structure of the curriculum of the synthetic macromolecular substances. In the second part there is introduced an analysis of the content and structure of the synthetic macromolecular substances curriculum, which was created and verified in the project ESTABILISH, and its illustration. In the concluding discussion there is presented a comparison of both attitudes to the choice and system of synthetic macromolecular substances, it means the deductive and inductive approach.
Didactic software for chemistry education at the ISCED 2 level
Sadykov, Timur ; Čtrnáctová, Hana (advisor) ; Havlíček, David (referee) ; Svoboda, Lubomír (referee)
1 ABSTRACT The current chemistry education solves problems related primarily to the setting of the curriculum contents, which would be professionally correct, appropriately extensive, and at the same time connected with current aspects of life in modern society, and to problems of teaching strategies that would stimulate the students into an interest in science and commitment to it. The main goal of this dissertation is to create an educational website with an interactive chemistry course for lower secondary schools (ISCED 2) and verify its effectiveness in school practice. The first part of the dissertation describes methods of interactive chemistry teaching supporting the increase of the students' cognitive activity and the effectiveness of the learning process using ICT. The second part characterizes the chemistry course thus created and lists various ways to apply interactive teaching in it. Our interactive course contains a total of 14 thematic units, each with 2-6 subthemes. All themes are processed with respect to the practical application of the subject matter using the listed interactive education methods. This course was tested in 2018-2020 during chemistry lessons in Kazakhstan and Czech Republic, and the students' opinions toward interactive teaching in this study were tested using a simple...
Classifying Chemical Reactions Using Inquiry Based Science Education Method
Sejková, Tereza ; Stratilová Urválková, Eva (advisor) ; Čtrnáctová, Hana (referee)
Diploma thesis presents topic Classifying chemical reactions that was elaborated on the principle of inquiry based science education. The handbook for teachers, which is a part of the thesis, contains two variants of structured inquiry and two variants of guided inquiry. There are also methodical instructions for teachers, a list of chemicals, the procedure for carrying out the reactions and photo documentation of experiments, including measured graphs of pH and redox potential (PASCO probeware). Inquiry-based science education has the potential to develop key competences, which are becoming an important goal of education at all levels of education. The key competencies are included in the Czech curriculum, the Framework Educational Program for Grammar schools. The next part of the thesis was preparation of the questionnaire focused on developed key competencies. Students that performed laboratory session with the new developed material on topic classification of chemical reaction filled in the questionnaires after their work. The results showed that during the work students had the opportunity to develop five key competences.
Chemical calculations in the context of real life at elementary and high school
Režňák, Jakub ; Čtrnáctová, Hana (advisor) ; Stratilová Urválková, Eva (referee)
Learning exercises containing chemical calculations are necessary for complex understanding of some parts of chemical curriculum. This diploma thesis deals with creation and evaluation of worksheets containing multicomponent learning tasks closely connected to reality for pupils of elementary and high school. The theoretical part consists of the summary of present valid Czech curricular documents, mainly parts focused on chemical calculations and sustainable development. The main part of this thesis is creation of worksheets containing multicomponent learning tasks focused on different topics of chemistry which were chosen according to Framework Education Programmes. Created worksheets were verified and evaluated at high school. Based on evaluations of worksheets action research focused on problems during solving chemical calculations was conducted on elementary school.
Indicators of educational results in chemistry teaching of the Czech Republic
Tříska, Jan ; Čtrnáctová, Hana (advisor) ; Ganajová, Mária (referee) ; Klečková, Marta (referee)
This thesis focuses on the indicators of quality of education. The indicators are learning exercises the aim of which is to prove whether the tested pupils reached the level of knowledge defined by the national curriculum and listed in the Framework Education Programme. While learning Chemistry, the students should master the key competencies and educational objectives from the education area "Man and Nature" and further from the subject of Chemistry. The thesis focuses on the evidence of reaching the educational goals in Chemistry within the scope of General Chemistry. Since the level of knowledge defined by the Framework Education Programme is not very specific, the author of this thesis decided to settle the educational goals for the subject of General Chemistry based on the study of expert literature and curricular documents. Furthermore, the author also suggests a system of indicators which can be used to verify reaching these goals by the pupils of the secondary schools. The thesis also includes one of the models of working with such indicators. The indicator system was first assessed by a focus group (Chemistry teachers and experts in Didactics of Chemistry). This focus group evaluated the content and the construct validity of the suggested indicators. Afterwards, some of the learning...
Scientific literacy and its development by using learning tasks in Chemistry for ISCED 2 level
Distler, Petr ; Teplý, Pavel (advisor) ; Klečková, Marta (referee) ; Čtrnáctová, Hana (referee)
The objective of the dissertation was to assess the suitability of the scientific literacy development by using learning tasks in chemistry classes for ISCED 2. By comparing the learning tasks types in commercial workbooks and in the international assessment PISA, a significant difference in their structure was found out. Although the Czech Republic has undertaken to participate in the PISA project, Czech teachers have a different type of teaching tasks commonly available in their workbooks than the pupils afterwards solve in the PISA project. PISA's released and author's learning tasks were compiled into authentic workbooks. They were used in chemistry classes during the school year 2016/2017. Based on the pupils' results in the final assignments, all groups of grammar school pupils from experimental groups achieved better results in solving multicomponent learning tasks than the control group. However, the results of elementary schools pupils were significantly worse at final test scores than at initial ones, which was explained by the entire loss of their motivation to study. Pupils rated motivation to work with multicomponent tasks above average. They were fully aware of the importance and usefulness of solving multicomponent learning tasks, and, therefore, they solved them with proper...
