Cypriot Folk Singing: a Comparison of Methodology
Lazarou, Loucia ; Pecháček, Stanislav (referee) ; Beynon, Jennifer Carol (advisor)
In my master thesis I studied how harmony, rhythm and forms can apply in music in Cyprus, comparing it also with the Bel canto popular style of singing. Some genres and rhythms can be also found in Europe, Arabia, Greece and Asia Minor, but there are somehow different having their own individuality. Firstly, (chapter 1) I spoke about the Geographical place of Cyprus, which was forever a temptation for war. The roots and the influences on Cypriot music was my next topic. (Subchapter 1.1, 1.2) Secondly, (chapter 2) I spoke about the Demotic song, and how music and personal experiences of the people came together. I moved through the characteristics, melody and rhythm. Furthermore, (chapter 3) I made a short chapter on the traditional instruments. The next chapter (No 4) is one of the most important chapters in the thesis. The scales of folk songs in Cyprus are mixed and difficult for some people to understand, because of their way of playing and the influences upon them. I continued with the detailed description of Cypriot folk songs in chapter 5, the genres, the forms and their history. It is very important for the teacher or the student to understand their origin, in order to sing the Cypriot folk songs. A short history about Bel canto and the main representatives of that style is introducing us to...

Milan Uherek Personality as the Founder of Children's Choir Severáček
Rosůlková, Gabriela ; Pecháček, Stanislav (referee) ; Hurníková, Kateřina (advisor)
The thesis focuses on introducing the personality of the choirmaster Milan Uherek, a founder of the Severáček children's choir. In the first chapters, it tries to capture the importance and specifics of children's choir singing in the pedagogical sphere (with respect to ethical, esthetical and hygienic aspects) and in the specialized, educational sphere. They show that the success of choir work and internal harmony of the choir are dependent on the choirmaster's personality. The following chapters therefore deal with the description of professional, character and organisational prerequisites that should be represented in the choirmaster's personality. Based on the identified general findings, the personality of Milan Uherek is introduced, his life story and lifelong artistic activity associated particularly with the foundation and leadership of the Severáček children's choir. The last chapters of the thesis try to capture both musical and non-musical principles on which Milan Uherek built the many-year successful activity and existence of his choir.
The Legacy of the Composers of Holy Minimalism
Christou, Marios ; Nedělka, Michal (advisor) ; Pecháček, Stanislav (referee) ; Riedlbauch, Václav (referee)
This dissertation is a result of the author's great interest in contemporary music and especially musical "styles" known as "Holy minimalism", "New simplicity", etc. In a way, this work is an extension of my master thesis that dealt with the music of Arvo Pärt which only deepened my interest for this kind of music. Here I also deal with the music of Henryk Mikolaj Górecki whose name very often appears beside that of Arvo Pärt's and he is usually characterized as his Polish counterpart. As a student of the Pedagogical Faculty of the Charles University I realize that the music education students of this university are not familiar with the musical output of the post-modern era, a fact that means that they will not be able to teach anything about contemporary music in their role of music teachers. Undoubtedly, the music of the second half of the 20th century and 21s1 century is an integral part of the history of music and I strongly believe that it has a very high artistic value. Consequently, it is essential that pedagogues know and understand this music. This is the main reason for choosing this topic. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Czech liturgical formation for children's and women's choirs
Orff's Schulwerk in the Preparation Process of Children's Choirs
The Personality of Ralph Vaughan Williams with a view to an Analysis of his 8th Symphony
Velická, Helena ; Bělohlávková, Petra (advisor) ; Nedělka, Michal (referee) ; Portych, Jiří (referee) ; Pecháček, Stanislav (referee)
Vaughan Williams was an extraordinary ordinary man and a very great composer who has reached during his lifetime the hearts of a very large section of his countrymen. Music was the mainspring of his being and he put all that he knew into his music. The essential importance of this composer consists in symphonic and song work. He is an author of nine symphonies, ballet, film music and five operas but the very best success reached he with his choral works. He found the basis and inspiration in the music of his own land and has devoted a good deal of energy to the collecting and arranging of folksongs. The influence of that association on his work is obvious but it is egually evident that he is far from being merely an imitator of folksong. The accents of traditional melody appeal to him but his mode of expression is his own - it is wholly personal and it makes use of passing dissonance in a way which no study of folk melodies could possibly have suggested. He was a friend and admirer of romantics but showed distaste for several favourite romantic emotions. His style is half traditional half modern and that is why his music is understandable. Arvo Pärt - The Choral Tintinnabuli Compositions
Christou, Marios ; Nedělka, Michal (advisor) ; Pecháček, Stanislav (referee)
This diploma work deals with Arvo Part's latest period, the so called "Tintinnabuli" style. The purpose of this diploma is to analyze six Tintinnabuli choral compositions and to discover the well "hidden" quality. To find the origin of the various components that comprised it (melody, harmony, voice leading, form) and to explain as clear as possible the way in which the composer combines them together in a fascinating way, but at the same time having his personal "voice". Consequently, this diploma work has, as its aim, to prove the importance of this new style and how it can be a great contribution in the history of music. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
