Lacina, Jiří ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Končelík, Jakub (referee)
This master's thesis focuses on the image of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Czech media, specifically on the presence of bias in news coverage. The thesis examines what, if any, elements of media bias are present in Czech media coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The theoretical part of the thesis describes bias and related concepts, and then discusses the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including a closer look at Czech- Israeli and Czech-Palestinian relations. The thesis then presents selected foreign and Czech research that examines the media portrayal of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. As a method, the thesis uses quantitative content analysis and analyses news articles published in the five most read online media during Israel-Palestine crisis in May 2021. The analysis focuses on the presence of contextual information about the conflict, the labelling of actions, actors and territories, and the way in which victims are reported. The results show the picture of the conflict presented by the Czech media is incomplete and distorted from different perspectives. However, the results do not show that the coverage is clearly biased in favour of (or against) the Israeli or Palestinian side.

Hlinka, Ivan ; Osvaldová, Barbora (advisor) ; Končelík, Jakub (referee)

Case "Kramný" of Perception of the guilt of alleged perpetrators based on diverse media coverage
Kazda, Tomáš ; Končelík, Jakub (advisor) ; Vranka, Marek (referee)
The case of Petr Kramný, who allegedly killed his wife and daughter in Egypt, has been printed in the memory of the Czech nation since 2013. Both because of its tragic and ambiguous circumstances and, above all, because of the media coverage of the case, which is the subject of this thesis. The "Kramný" case serves as a template of an actual "media trial", which examines the effect of tabloid and public media coverage via an online questionnaire. Respondents, randomly assigned to one of two groups, learn about the case of Matúš L., who allegedly killed his girlfriend. However, in reality, they read articles about the "Kramný" case - one group from the private platform blesk.cz, the other from the public media ct24.cz. The restrained and distant attitude of ČT contrasts with the sensationalist narratives longing for drama presented by Blesk. The results of the quantitative analysis confirm the hypothesis that tabloid coverage leads not only to a higher degree of guilt attributed to the accused but also to a more negative evaluation of his character traits. The accused's behavior is perceived as more suspicious by tabloid respondents, while these respondents also possess greater confidence in the strength and quantity of evidence. Although these findings do not necessarily imply any threat to the...

Bauerová, Dominika ; Hroch, Miloš (advisor) ; Končelík, Jakub (referee)
The thesis "Pirates in the post-revolutionary Czech airwaves: a case study of Radio Podzemí" deals with the six-month-long broadcast of Radio Podzemí from České Budějovice, one of the first pirate stations in Czechoslovakia. The aim of the work is to introduce the period of the station's broadcasting, to place it in the historical context of the post-revolutionary airwaves and to illustrate the concepts of alternative media. Emphasis is then placed on aspects of community and pirate media, as well as the transformation of the medium from pirate to commercial radio. The qualitative research uses in-depth interviews with several founding members to collect data. The data collected is analysed using the grounded theory method. During its existence, Radio Podzemí exhibited a combination of elements of pirate, community and commercial media. The station's early broadcasts illustrated the strong anti-system motivation that is characteristic of pirate media. As time progressed, the station became dominated by elements and values of community media, eventually to be fully replaced by the station's commercial management. The contribution of this thesis is to complement the historical and media research that has been devoted to Radio Podzemí to date.

This thesis uses analytical tools of a qualitative nature, namely historical, content and linguistic analysis, to observe the elements, examples and manner of propaganda and its projection into culinary recipes in the Květy magazine between 1951 and 1989. It describes not only the transformation of the magazine's content and the related increase in the proportion of media content devoted to culinary recipes and related topics, but also the development of the recipes themselves, taking into account the use of ingredients. The thesis further treats findings such as the increasing share of carnivore recipes and places them in the economic and political context. It also focuses on the ways of regime propaganda projection into media content, which was manifested, for example, in recipes devoted to the cuisines of so-called "friendly" countries. Further, it focuses on the methods of how certain foods were promoted in the analysed period. It explains why such content disappears in times of prosperity and reappears in times of scarcity. It also explores why certain food can be encountered in particular segments of the studied period. Furthermore, the thesis describes the form of advertising content at the time and mentions the most frequent columns dealing with the subjects under study and the...

This bachelor thesis is focused on an analysis of the Portuguese Carnation Revolution that took place on April 15, 1974 and its media image in the Czechoslovak press of that time.
