The position of a pregnant woman in employment relations
Hejzlarová, Anna ; Štefko, Martin (advisor) ; Kotous, Jan (referee)
Pregnancy is significantly protected in labour law and the position of a pregnant woman in employment relations is, therefore, very specific. After the creation of an employment relationship, or a legal relation based on the agreements to work outside the scope of employment, a whole range of protective institutes are in place to ensure a special position of a pregnant worker that is of key importance. The thesis focuses primarily on the position of a pregnant woman during the employment relationship as only there all the protective institutes are present. The introductory parts deal with the reason and importance of the protection of a pregnant worker, its establishment in the Czech legal order and the importance of informing the employer of one's pregnancy. The following parts are dedicated mainly to individual labour law institutes constituting special protection and special working conditions of a pregnant worker during the employment relationship until the commencement of her maternity leave. The last part underlines the differences in the protection of a pregnant woman granted during one of the legal relations based on the agreements to work outside the scope of employment compared to the one granted during the employment relationship. The thesis tries to provide a detailed description and...
The Conflict of Country and City in Flannery O'Connor's Short Stories
Hejzlarová, Anna ; Wallace, Clare (advisor) ; Ulmanová, Hana (referee)
Flannery O'Connor, one of the prominent Southern writers of the post-World War II era, has been known particularly for her deeply religious convictions that she interconnected with typically Southern settings and attributes. Although the aim of her fiction, as she herself frequently pronounced, was predominantly in its religious significance, she was not blind to the social and political changes that accompanied the spreading of urbanization, modernization, university education, an emphasis on the scientific perspective and belief in progress - all of which forced the South to adapt to the ideal of a unified, successful America. On the contrary, she felt, similar to many other Southern writers, that city and the urban way of life clashes with traditional rural values and with the region's distinctiveness. This thesis aims to discuss precisely the tension between rural and urban and the way it reflects the conflict between religious faith and modern secularism as understood by Flannery O'Connor. The second chapter provides a deeper context, both socio-historical and literary. The first subchapter focuses on the socio-historical reality of the urbanization of the American South that started mainly after the Civil War and culminated in the period immediately following World War II. It illustrates the...
Anomalies in the development of the exchange rate (In the context of PPP)
Hejzlarová, Anna ; Šíma, Ondřej (advisor) ; Pour, Jiří (referee)
This thesis is focused on the description of the purchasing power parity theory and the theory of the interest rate as the fundamental aspects of exchange rate movements. A large part is devoted to the problems of equilibrium exchange rates and associated anomalies that these equilibrium rates are largely affected. The aim is to highlight the pros and cons of these theories and their practical use in nowadays world. Incomplete validity of purchasing power parity is analyzed by using available data which also leads to examine the presence of deviation from the equilibirum value. These anomalies are divided into economic origin anomalies and anomalies arising from non-market intervention. Despite the frequent critism the theory of purchasing power parity is still the most popular and frequently published theory.
