CSG modeling for polygonal objects
Václavík, Jiří ; Křivánek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Beneš, Jan (referee)
This work deals with an efficient and robust technique of performing Boolean operations on polygonal models. Full robustness is achieved within an internal representation based on planes and BSP (binary space partitioning) trees, in which operations can be carried out exactly in mere fixed precision arithmetic. Necessary conversions from the usual representation to the inner one and back, including their consequences are analyzed in detail. The performance of the method is optimized by a localization scheme in the form of an adaptive octree. The resulting implementation RazeCSG is experimentally compared with implementations used in practice Carve and Maya, which are not fully robust. For large models, RazeCSG shows only twice lower performance in the worst case than Carve, and is at least 130 times faster than Maya.
The change of normative perception and thinking about the Nuclear Sharing within NATO
Kořínek, David ; Ludvík, Jan (advisor) ; Beneš, Jan (referee)
The main aim of this thesis is to analyse the development of the NATO's normative perception and thinking over the nuclear weapons and the nuclear sharing concept. While the nuclear sharing lays in the main area of the interest of this thesis, the approach towards the nuclear weapons itself is the inseparable component of this research. This thesis is divided into three main chapters. The chapter one explains the historical position of the nuclear weapons in the NATO thinking and the history of the nuclear sharing in relation to the NPT. It also introduces the basic theoretical debate and definition of the concept. The chapter two explains the chosen methodological framework, describes the set of analysed documents and sets rules for the coding of those documents. For the purposes of this analysis, I decided to use the methodological framework of the content analysis, which is created through the content analysis software NVivo 12. It is followed by the chapter three which is visualising and explaining the results of the content analysis created following the script already described in the chapter two.

Beneš J.: HEMODYNAMIKA V ČASNÉ FÁZI KRITICKÝCH STAVŮ A PERIOPERAČNÍ MEDICÍNĚ - Využití méně invazivních monitorovacích prostředků k cílené hemodynamické péči ABSTRACT Hemodynamic instability occurs very often in critically ill patients and during the perioperative period. Insufficiency in the preload, contractility and afterload contribute in major part to this phenomenon. Hemodynamic monitoring allows clinicians to recognize and to intervene early the underlying cause. Due to new technologies development in recent years it is possible to provide continuous monitoring of hemodynamic parameters with diminished invasivity. Hemodynamic optimization and goal directed therapy show treatment benefit in some groups of critically ill patients and mainly during the perioperative period. Aim of hemodynamic optimizations is to attain the best obtainable hemodynamic conditions with use of fluid loading and inotropic support. In many studies in recent years goal-directed therapy was associated with morbidity and mortality reduction. According to the results of our clinical research hemodynamic optimization using stroke volume variation and minimally invasive device based on the pressure wave analysis is feasible and show the same results as other works with more invasive devices. Key words Hemodynamic monitoring,...
Progressive divergence? The development of Croatian and Slovenian strategic cultures since independence
Vogrinec, Matevž ; Karásek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Beneš, Jan (referee)
This thesis focuses on the development of strategic culture in Slovenia and Croatia since independence. Croatia and Slovenia are small countries in the Western Balkans. Both countries became independent in 1991 and since then they became important regional actors in the Western Balkans. This thesis traces Slovenia and Croatia's historical position within the former SFR Yugoslavia's defence system. The empirical analysis in the thesis examines official documents of both countries to find basic notions of the strategic culture of Croatia and Slovenia. The thesis' research focuses on finding how both countries' goal of Euro-Atlantic integration influenced the development of their strategic culture. Keywords: Strategic Culture, Slovenia, Croatia
Procedural Modeling of Tree Bark
Laitoch, Petr ; Beneš, Jan (advisor) ; Kahoun, Martin (referee)
Even though procedural modeling of trees is a well-studied problem, realistic modeling of tree bark is not. However, the more general techniques of texture syn- thesis, including texture-by-numbers, may be helpful for modeling tree bark. Tex- ture synthesis is a process of generating an arbitrarily large texture similar to an input image. This method is capable of generating homogeneous textures. This is not enough as many types of bark are inhomogeneous. Texture-by-numbers improves texture synthesis by further guiding the process with provided label maps to allow the generation of even inhomogeneous textures. Many texture-by- numbers algorithms are not currently implemented. In this thesis, we implement a promising texture-by-numbers algorithm along with algorithms for generating the required label maps. This combination of algorithms creates a pipeline for synthesizing realistic tree bark textures based on a single small input image. We test out the pipeline on samples of multiple types of real-world tree bark images and discuss the results. We further suggest multiple directions for improving the employed techniques.
Biopolitics and COVID-19
Beneš, Jan ; Lupač, Petr (advisor) ; Šubrt, Jiří (referee)
Bachelor thesis deals with the topic of biopolitics in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic in the Czech Republic. The work has two main goals: the first goal is to identify and define expert discourses in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic; the second goal is to describe the functions and links of expert discourses to biopolitics. The theoretical basis of the work is drawn from the theory of Michel Foucault and his analyzes of biopolitics, bio-power and epidemics. The method of critical discursive analysis by Norman Fairclough is applied in this work, which is used to analyze expert texts. The first result of the analysis is the identification and definition of three expert discourses: the discourse of experts in the field of natural sciences, medical and economic discourse. The second result of the analysis is the finding that in relation to biopolitics, expert discourses have a recommendatory and analyzing functions. The bachelor thesis places the results of critical discursive analysis in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic and the theoretical framework of Foucault's thinking. At the end of the work I formulate a polemic with Michel Foucault's theoretical background. Key words Sociology, power, biopolitics, covid-19, discourse analysis
Regulace receptorů spřažených s G proteiny Studie muskarinových a β-adrenergních receptorů u M2KO myší
Beneš, Jan ; Mysliveček, Jaromír (advisor) ; Kuncová, Jitka (referee) ; Nováková, Marie (referee)
(in English): The aim of the work was to perform in-depth analysis of M2KO mice both at baseline and upon a challenge with a cold stress and to explore the role of opposing receptors (i.e. adrenoceptors) in adaptation to lacking M2-receptors in the heart. We have performed receptor binding studies, study of receptor gene expression, echocardiography, telemetric monitoring of heart rate, body temperature and activity, heart rate variability and biorhythm analysis, analysis of heart rate response to the application of drugs (carbachol, atropine, isoprenaline, propranolol), assessment of adenylyl cyclase and NO synthase activity, measurement of catecholamine blood concentration and gene expression of catecholamine-synthesizing enzymes. We have found that the disruption of M2-receptor gene caused a compensatory decrease of cardiostimulatory β1-adrenoceptors and β2-adrenoceptors with corresponding down-regulation of the gene expression, M3-receptors were down-regulated as well. Missing M2-receptors were functionally replaced by the main cardioinhibitory β3-adrenoceptors that were up-regulated, not by cardioinhibitory M4-receptors. β3-adrenoceptors were found to signal through adenylyl cyclase instead of NO synthase. All these changes were found in the left ventricle only, so heterologous regulation is...
Strategic Culture of the Czech Republic
Beneš, Jan ; Karásek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Eichler, Jan (referee) ; Kučera, Tomáš (referee)
Jan Beneš Strategic Culture of the Czech Republic Abstract The aim of the dissertation is to define in a complex manner the strategic culture of the Czech Republic. Strategic culture is at first analysed as a conceptual phenomenon both in relation to strategy itself and to the theories of international relations. The dissertation introduces the different streams of thought about strategic culture and then studies the approaches of the key involved authors with a special focus on the discussion between the first and the third generation of strategic culture scholars. Concerning the fact that the strategic culture has been originally created for the study of the behaviour and strategic thought of major powers, the author analyses the historical and geostrategic peculiarities of a small state in the Central Europe and then defines own conceptual and methodological framework. Using the method of grounded theory, the important symbols and narratives from the Czech history as well as the most important moments in the Czech political and strategic thought and decision-making are being examined. The historical narratives re-appear and influence the decision-making, thinking and argumentation of the key actors in the Czech security community. The research of the key decisions and historical moments after the 1989 is...
Procedural modeling and realism in computer graphics
Beneš, Jan ; Křivánek, Jaroslav (advisor)
One of the long-standing goals of computer graphics is to generate realistic imagery. This realism is predicated, among other things, on having access to high- quality content to display, and being able to verify its realism. Unfortunately, realism and especially realism in procedural modeling are under-represented in current literature. Consequently, we address these two topics by investigating the definitions of general realism in computer graphics and by providing a basic framework for thinking and talking about realism in procedural modeling. In or- der to provide this framework with initial tangible data, we present a user study of the realism of procedural buildings. We find that realism of this specific class of procedural models is carried on different scales and conclude that authors of procedural rules for buildings need to beware of not only the fine details, but also the overall shape of the generated models. Finally, we present a method for growing procedural road networks in and close to cities. We use a traffic simula- tion and adapt existing research to grow cities over time. The cities are formed by letting several meaningfully positioned smaller settlements' minor roads grow in step with additional major roads. As a result, we are able to generate cities with rich, complex and realistic...
Špica/ Brno, Nové sady 49°11'20.3"N 16°36'29.4"E
Kufa, Ondřej ; Beneš, Jan (referee) ; Palaščák, Michal (advisor)
The aim of the design is to revitalize the area lined by the streets of Nové sady, Úzká, and the Malá Amerika building. This uncultivated place is located quite near to the city center. During the design, the main focus was placed on the potential of the defined area. The new buildings recreate the city block, which is partially opened at the top of the area. In the upper corner of the plot is dominated by the rotating town hall tower. The lower floors of the town hall building are receding backward for the necessity to create a public space under the building, due to a road barrier directly in front of the city hall. The concept of the town hall and the completion of the city block enlivens the locality, brings there new functions, culture, and safety. The proposal counts on planting and recultivating new greenery towards the Malá Amerika building. The whole design thus seeks significantly integrate the new complex with the lowest load on the environment.
