Composition in contemporary Spanish
Hrabětová, Michaela ; Čermák, Petr (advisor) ; Kratochvílová, Dana (referee)
The diploma thesis "Composition in contemporary Spanish " focuses on compounding as one of the most important processes in word formation. The purpose of our thesis on level of theoretical linguistics is to provide clear typology of Spanish compound words. On level of linguistics research our objective is to analyze current development of Spanish compound words. In theoretical part of our work we defined compounding together with derivation and parasynthesis as main word-formation processes that contribute to the growth of Spanish lexicon. Apart from these processes we also defined other important terms connected to this topic and essential for good understanding of it as lexical base, morpheme, word formation rules and their restrictions, pruductivity or blocking. We decided to classify Spanish compound words according to their orthographic character into two main groups - ortographic and syntagmatic compounds. In addition we subdivided these two groups; ortographic compounds were classified according to word class of the final compound, syntagmatic compounds were classified according to their internal structure. In practical part we focused on two main topics - orthographic form of studied compounds and the way of their plural formation. All compound words that we studied were analized in three...
Spanish verb grammatical constructions where the verb changes its meaning depending on the choice of mood in the subordinate clause
Vokatá, Barbora ; Kratochvílová, Dana (advisor) ; Čermák, Petr (referee)
The present work deals with the spanish grammatical constructions with the verbs that admit both the verb in the indicative and the subjunctive in the subordinate clause and whose meaning varies depending on the selected mood in the subordinate clause. The subject of our research are the verbs insistir (en), decir, temer, temerse, sentir, esperar, hacer and parecer. By the parallel language corpus InterCorp we analyse what are the trends in the use of the above verbs in the indicative and subjunctive and we study the influence of this modal opposition how it is reflected in the czech translation. Keywords: mood, modality, subjunctive, indicative, change of meaning
Names of Animals in Spanish Phraseology and Idiomatics with Regard to Czech Language
Janštová, Lucie ; Čermák, Petr (advisor) ; Kratochvílová, Dana (referee)
1 Abstract The topic of this thesis is Czech and Spanish phrasemes containing denominations of animals or parts of their bodies. Theoretical part of this thesis deals with delimitation of the concepts of phraseme, idiom etc., it describes the various attitudes to these issues in the Czech and Spanish field. The practical part, which is based on the theoretical premises, focuses on analysis of idiomatic expressions enlisted in a vocabulary attached to the thesis. The practical part further examines the vocabulary from different points of view, focuses on the extent of equivalency among individual idioms, frequency of use in particular languages, affiliation with the specific zoological categories and etymology of selected phrases. The target of this thesis is to identify both the differences and the similarities among the idioms.
Diminutive Suffixation in Spanish
Zemanová, Simona ; Kratochvílová, Dana (advisor) ; Čermák, Petr (referee)
in English: Diminutive Suffixation in Spanish The present paper addresses the topic of diminutive suffixation in Spanish and different ways of its translation to Czech. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part is concerned with the typology of Spanish and Czech diminutive suffixes, their meaning and usage in the present day Spanish and Czech. The second part is dedicated to a corpus analysis based on the examples excerpted from the parallel language corpus InterCorp. The research focuses on the suffix -ito/a as it is the most commonly used diminutive suffix in the Hispanic world. The analysis is done on three parts of speech: nous, adjectives and adverbs. Subsequent translation analysis deals with the most frequent diminutives of these parts of speech and concludes that Czech tends to express certain values of Spanish diminutives through other means. Key words: diminutives, suffix, corpus, derivation, morphology, Spanish
Interjections in Czech and Spanish with regard to Catalan Language
Žežulková, Jana ; Čermák, Petr (advisor) ; Kratochvílová, Dana (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to analyse the interjections in Spanish and Czech with regard to Catalan. The thesis consists of two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical one is focused on the definition of interjections form the grammatical point of view; moreover, it describes the distinction between proper and improper interjections. Subsequently, it goes through the role of interjections in the field of pragmatics, especially in terms of interpretation of the utterance and expression of its modal meanings. According to the predominant function, they are classified into mainly three categories - expressive, apellative and phatic. The practical part is focused on analysing some of the most important Spanish proper interjections: eh, ah, oh, ay, bah, uy, ja, zas, pum, hum and uf and their Catalan equivalent eh, ah, oh, ai, bah, ui, ha ha, zas (or xac), pum, hum and uf. The analysis is based on the linguistic corpus InterCorp. The most important part of the practical part are Spanish interjections and their Czech equivalents, while the Catalan ones are considered complementary. Key words: interjections - Spanish - Czech - Catalan - modality - pragmatics - linguistic corpus
Characteristics and use of student slang in Spain and Hispanic America
Malinová, Markéta ; Čermák, Petr (advisor) ; Černikovská, Štěpánka (referee)
The thesis is focused on a student slang in Spain and Hispanic America. In the theoretical part we describe standard and non-standard language focusing attention on slang. We describe the student slang especially from a lexicological point of view, so we present the most frequent processes of word formation and also some examples of vocabulary. Then we mention some specifics of slang in Hispanic America. In the practical part we present a research that shows some examples of vocabulary of real spanish students. On the basis of theirs answers we determine conclusions (processes of word formation of slang expressions, differences between Hispanic America and Spain etc.). Key words slang, spanish language, student, Spain, Hispanic America, lexicology, vocabulary
Spanish similes with adjective and it's equivalents in Czech
Šilhavá, Terezie ; Čermák, Petr (advisor) ; Kratochvílová, Dana (referee)
This dissertation focuses on Spanish similes with adjective (like feliz como una perdiz) and its equivalents in Czech. First the theoretical frame is sketched: a summary of the evolution and of the actual situation of the investigation in the field of fraseology; a description of the corpora which were used as a source of the data; a characterization of the basic terms connected with the topic; a description of the function of phrasemes and simies in the process of communication; and a summary of some basic thoughts from cognitive linguistics. Then a semantic and contrastive analysis of the simies with selected adjectives (feliz, alegre, triste, tranquilo, furioso) comes. Finally we point out what each comparatum can tell about the meaning of the adjective, what we can tell about the comparata and its selection, and what can be said about the grade of stabilization of the examined simies. Then a tip follows: what more could be explored in this area and that there could be a possibility to use the results of such research for instance while creating a didactic material.
Elektronové vlastnosti sloučenin RPd5Al2
Zubáč, Jan ; Javorský, Pavel (advisor) ; Čermák, Petr (referee)
We have studied magnetic properties of the intermetallic NdPd5Al2 com- pound by means of specific heat and magnetization measurements and neutron scattering. The compound crystallizes in the tetragonal I4/mmm space group with lattice parameters a =4.147 ˚A and c =14.865 ˚A, orders antiferromagnet- ically below TN =1.3 K and presents large magnetocrystalline anisotropy due to the crystal-field effects. The obtained magnetic phase diagram is charac- terized by two distinct magnetically ordered phases similarly to structurally re- lated tetragonal RTX5 and R2TX8 compounds. The zero-field antiferromagnetic phase is characterized by the propagation vector k = (1 2 00) and antiferromag- netic coupling of Nd moments along the teragonal c-axis with the amplitude of magnetic moments of 2.22 µB/Nd as was revealed by neutron diffraction. The transition from the paramagnetic to magnetically ordered in zero field is the first-order phase transition. The CF excitations in NdPd5Al2 were detected by means of INS at 3.0 meV, 7.4 meV, 8.6 meV and 17.1 meV. We further compare our findings about CF in NdPd5Al2 obtained from INS, susceptibility analysis and first-principles calculations and confront them with the experimental mag- netization and magnetic specific heat data. Our results will be also discussed with respect to related...
