Červinka, Jonáš ; Vojvodík, Josef (advisor) ; Dadejík, Ondřej (referee)

The thesis discusses Chalupecký within a broader contemporary context, and uses comparative method to illustrate the complexity of Chalupecký's thought together with the concept of new mythology he shared with some of his contemporaries. The thesis consists of three parts which freely correspond to the sequential progression of Chalupecký's thought and his conception of the avant-garde. The thesis stresses the originality of Chalupecký's approach to modern art, and considers its colorful manifestations.
The principal themes and motifs in Rubén Darío's poetry
Grabec, Jan ; Vydrová, Hedvika (advisor) ; Poláková, Dora (referee)
The aim of this work is to capture and explain the motivic and thematic aspects of the poetical work of Rubén Dário. Rubén Darío has substantially contributed to the formation of the hispano-american modernism, that originated mainly from the literary movements of the 19th century in Europe. Hispano-american modernism has formally revived obsolete poetical structures of its time and has provided other Spanish speaking writers for enriching their writings with new elements. This work then concerns itself with the analysis of themes, which have appeared in his writings most frequently. The motivic part of his writings was, especially in his earliest writings, deeply influenced with mythology, mainly the classical and the germanic one, but also with oriental art, and often evoked the environment of aristocracy. His critics have often declared those motives to be exotic as they were not common in Darío's times. Finally the work is trying to capture the motivic and thematic shift between his fundamental writings, the Worldly hymns (Prosas profanas) and the Songs of Life and Hope (Cantos de vida y esperanza). In contrast to the Worldly hymns, the Songs of Life and Hope decline to existentialism.
The Czech and German kabaret scene within Czech culture in the first two decades of the 20th century
Poštulková, Marta ; Just, Vladimír (advisor) ; Augustová, Zuzana (referee)
This thesis deals with Czech and German cabaret shows on the Bohemian land in the first two decades of the 20th century . The thesis first familiarizes the reader with the history of Czech cabaret - with first such establishments in Prague and the very birth of this performance type here. Then some space is devoted to the most important of Prague' s theatres - Lucerna, Rokoko, Červená sedma and Montmartre - and their comparison. More theatres are spoken about later on, both Czech and foreign. Then, several prominent figures of cabaret theatre are characterised and it is also analyzed how they influenced each other and the cabaret itself. The very last part details the circumstances that ultimately led to downfall of most cabaret theatres in the twenties and evaluates contributions cabaret might mean for the future.
Representation of the House in British Fiction (1906-2009). (E.M. Forster, John Galsworthy, Simon Mawer)
Hanzlová, Tereza ; Grmelová, Anna (advisor) ; Chalupský, Petr (referee)
The diploma thesis focuses on diverse representations of the house in selected British novels since 1906. The novels have been chosen in reference to the importance assigned to houses in terms of plot, characters, and setting, each offering a unique vision of the house. A house is perceived as a home, as a possession or as a work of art. The novels by E.M. Forster, John Galsworthy and Simon Mawer are viewed through the prism of Phenomenology, namely the essays of Martin Heidegger, Jan Patočka and Anna Hogenová. This type of analysis provides an insight into the motivations of the individual characters, but also a deeper understanding of the function and role of the house in fiction as well as in reality. All the works are studied accordingly in the context of a wider social, cultural and aesthetic background. Key words: British fiction, Phenomenology, House, Home, Modernism, Work of Art
The aesthetics and short prose of D. H. Lawrence
Štefl, Martin ; Hilský, Martin (advisor) ; Beran, Zdeněk (referee)
The thesis presents an analysis of the selected themes of D. H. Lawrence's aesthetics and philosophy in relation to his short stories. The main focus of the presented argument is the notion of language (Chapter 2), knowledge (Chapter 3) and the Self (Chapter 4). These chapters form and constitute a coherent thematic unity of the Lawrentian "triptych". The above mentioned phenomena are demonstrated to form the foundation of Lawrence's aesthetical and philosophical thought as it is put into practice in his short fiction. The argument aims to introduce these as applied and integrated in the substance of Lawrence's shortest prose. The structure of the thesis is based on a concept in which the next chapter develops and relies on the previous one chapter, while extending and augmenting the original argument. In addition to this, all of the three notions are unified under the key concept of Lawrence's philosophy, i.e. the notion or the theory of the "idea" and "idealism". The discussion of these three phenomena is followed by a brief appendix chapter (Chapter 5). This chapter does not add any new topic, however, supplies the text and deepens the existing argument with what might be understood as a diachronic supplement and summary of an otherwise prevailingly synchronic study. Key Words: D. H. Lawrence,...

Financial Crisis and Methodology of Economics
Kovanda, Lukáš ; Pavlík, Ján (advisor) ; Loužek, Marek (referee) ; Bažantová, Ilona (referee)
The thesis deals with significant moments in the relationship between methodology of economics and implications of the financial crisis culminating in 2008 and 2009. Its key insight rests upon the claim that some theoretical concepts developed within mainstream economics do not tackle the reality adequately and contributed in a significant way to the sequence of events leading to the financial crisis. Most of those concepts were introduced in the second half of the 20th century, during a "high tide" of positivistic ideas in the domain of methodology of mainstream economics. Though the same ideas had been already discredited to a large extent by the philosophy of science at the time, mainstream economists did not reflect it satisfactorily. Aside from a historical expose the thesis consists also of an outline of a possible future development of the prevailing form of economic theory; four scenarios of future potential development are presented. In the final parts of the thesis, which are focused more specifically, the author appraises negatively options of the Austrian School as well as post-Keynesianism to influence in a more significant manner the mainstream economics during the post-crisis era.
