Processing of fingerprints
Kazík, Martin ; Hasmanda, Martin (referee) ; Říha, Kamil (advisor)
This diploma thesis deals with the identification of persons by their fingerprints. In the beginning, there is a brief overview of biometric methods. The issue of fingerprints and their automatic processing is very extensive and addresses a large amount of literature. This work describes the various stages processing fingerprints from receiving a fingerprint scan through the methods of enhancing fingerprint, binarization, the detection of minutiae to compare two fingerprints. After a short introduction of biometric techniques is briefly introduced the history of fingerprints as an instrument for identification of persons. Subsequently, there is the description of problems of obtaining fingerprints from older methods that require the transmission medium, to methods of obtaining fingerprints directly into a digital format. There are described basic principles of sensors and the principle of their function. Next part deals with methods of processing digital fingerprint images. These are methods for fingerprint image enhancement, methods for image thresholding, thinning of ridge lines, detection of global and local characteristics of the fingerprint. The next section introduces the basic methods of comparison and classification of fingerprints. The practical part describes the specific implementation of fingerprint processing chain. For each processing stage is implemented one selected method. The result is an application that allows displaying the output of each phase, the comparison of fingerprints 1:1 and also finds a fingerprint in the database, by comparing one fingerprint with many.
Fingerprint scanning
Kubiš, Michal ; Dobeš,, Michal (referee) ; Fedra, Petr (advisor)
Fingerprints are the oldest and most used form of biometric identification. A critical step is reliable extract minutiae from the fingerprint images. However fingerprint images are rarely of perfect quality, they may be degraded and corrupted due to natural variations in skin and sensing conditions. Thus, image enhancement techniques are necessary prior to minutiae extraction. This work includes implementation of three techniques for fingerprint image enhancement, minutiae extraction and consturction of fingerprint reading device. Experiments are realized with two sets of fingerprints to evaluate the performance of implemented techniques.

This thesis describes general function of biometric access systems and summarizes problems of their practical use. It also shows security risks of these systems. It defines basic terms, which are used in this area, describes kinds of errors and their representation. One part of this thesis deals with biometric method of fingerprints recognition. It explains fingerprints’ atomic basics, basic principles and processing of digital fingerprint image. Next part describes concrete biometric access system V-Station by Bioscrypt Inc. Besides basic description it focuses on technology of biometric sensor and algorithm, essential parts of biometric system. The thesis continues with security analysis of this concrete system. In this part I target on weak points of the system and I design possible attack on the system. In the last part of my thesis I designed laboratory exercise, which is supposed to be realized by student. It is composed it by several tasks to let students understand working with the system and attached software. At the same time, they have opportunity to think about system by themselves a make their own opinion about possibilities of the system. There are many pictures in this thesis to make term clear and to better understanding of problems of biometric security systems.

Müller, Pavel ; Balada, Jakub (advisor) ; Buchalcevová, Alena (referee)
The main objectives of this work are the elaboration of the basic facts and principles of the field of biometric identification as a basis for further introduction of five selected biometric techniques (fingerprints, hand geometry, face, voice and eye iris) and consequently also their evaluation and selection of the most promising methods based on four selected summary of the evaluation criteria (cost, reliability, security level and other criteria). Which itself will be done on the basis of facts presented throughout the work and will be designed in such a way that it can be used even in case of choosing of biometric identification method for specific use in practice.
Applications of the fingerprint sensing in IT
Rakár, Peter ; Balada, Jakub (advisor) ; Kulovaný, Martin (referee)
The biometrics is a branch with long history. With the arrival of information technologies biometrics also penetrates onto the field of the computer science. Even if there have been specialists concerned with application of biometrics in informatics for decades, state of the biometric technologies does not provide hundred percent reliability. Biometrics in IT is still evolving and with improving technologies from other spheres of the human activity new challenges also arise in biometrics. Biometry of fingerprint is the most common and the most used biometry in practice. The aim of this work is to bring the problem of fingerprints sensing and recognition closer to the reader. Work describes individual characteristics of fingerprints as well as common aspects of all other biometrics. Next concern of the work is the application of fingerprints biometry in practice. It is closer concerned with the most common methods and approaches which are used in implementation of fingerprints sensing, analyzes, recognition and classification in biometric system. The goal of the work is not to create an exact guideline for fingerprints implementation but to make the reader acquainted with possibilities, advantages and weakness of the biometry of fingerprints in context of IT.
