Evaluation of greenery in urban conservation zones: A certified methodology
Sojková, Eva ; Šiřina, Petr
The methodology sets out the criteria, descriptors and the procedure of the qualitative evaluation of greenery in urban conservation zones as background for its protection or restoration. It is a methodological support of the unified systematic documentation of the current state of greenery in urban conservation zones in each of the regions, including the design of a map database in the program ArcGIS with the option to use it in the information system of the National Heritage Institute.

Comparison of seasonal changes of ecophysiological characteristic of two selected trees under stress of the urban environment
ŠINDELÁŘOVÁ, Lenka
This thesis deals with the study of impact of stress to the two types of broadleaved trees in urban environment during the growing season. The studied species were Small-leaved Lime (Tilia cordata) and London Planetree (Platanus acerifolia). Trees are the important part of the urban environment both from an aesthetic standpoint and from the standpoint of the reduction of negative effects of the urban environment. However, these trees are under the constant influence of stress factors with which they have to deal (air pollution, water, temperature). Some trees deal with stress better but some worse. Because of this fact, two different types of trees were selected, which are able to deal with stress by their own way. As indicators of physiological state of plants under stress, the content of photosynthetic pigments and photochemical efficiency of PS II (QY and QY') were monitored at individual trees. The measurements were carried out always two days consecutively from May to September 2013 in Jiráskovo nábřeží in České Budějovice. Every month, the spectrophotometric measurement to determine the pigments in a leaf was carried out. For the spectrophotometric measurements, twenty-four leaves were measured in total; for the fluorescent measurement, thirty leaves were measured in total. The obtained values of both methods were processed and evaluated by graphs, which together with the average values show the statistic demonstrability of difference between the measured trees in city. According to these measured values, Small-leaved Lime seemed to be more vital at a given location, although London Planetree is marked in the literature as more resistant one towards the urban stress.
Expenses for Public Green Space as a Function of Various Parameters of Municipalities in the Czech Republik for 2011
Mrkvičková, Ivana ; Vejchodská, Eliška (advisor) ; Ropický, Jan (referee)
Greenery in towns and cities are an important part of our lives and influences us in many positive ways. In the Czech Republic, the establishment, restoration and maintenance of public green areas within the competence of municipalities. As with every other public service there arises a problem with the quantity and quality of its provision. This paper deals with the relationships that developed in 2011 between spending on public greenery and various parameters of the municipalities. These relations are implemented by means of two hypotheses. The first is based on economies of scale, and assumes that the larger the municipality, the smaller expenses should be provided for public green areas per inhabitant. The second hypothesis is based on the work of Carruthers and Úlfarsson (2008) and says that a higher the population density reduces the per capita expenditures of city govenments. The validity assessment of the hypotheses is done by use of the statistical method of regression analysis. This, however, did not confirm the validity of any of them. Thus there is no indirect relationship between the size of the municipality or population density and public expenditures on green areas per capita. The reason why there is no relationship lies primarily in the great freedom of decision-making of individual municipalities, as far as public green is concerned.
Urban green spaces and its institutional framework
Sukupová, Kristína ; Vejchodská, Eliška (advisor) ; Jílková, Jiřina (referee)
The thesis Urban green spaces and its institutional framework attempts to analyze different cases of urban green spaces foundation and administration in which various public and private entities act. Based on these foundations it tries to come with an overview of the most important forms of provision of greenery in cities. Through research of available literature we came to the understanding that greenery in urban environments is not just a result of municipal service provided by a public authority but to its foundation, administration, financing and maintenance contribute also other entities. The overview created in the thesis is not exhaustive but can serve as an inspiration for various subjects at a time when local public authorities do not have sufficient resources to ensure satisfactory range and quality of public green.
A Town Friendly to People
Pavlů, Eliška ; Musil, Martin (advisor) ; Dvořák, Jiří (referee)
This thesis deals with the cities friendly to people and aims to explain the concept of sustainable urban development. In the theoretical part I describe the main points that the city friendly to people should meet. That means in front of all the quality of life in cities, public spaces, transport infrastructure and places for rest, to relax. In the practical part two representative cities of that concept are presented - the French city of Lyon and the capital of Denmark - Copenhagen. In the following chapters of the practical part town I analyze the town of Jindřichův Hradec and the conclusion suggests changes in the "Náměstí míru" square so that the town of Jindřichův Hradec was friendly to people.
