Risk factors for suicidal behaviour among czech adolescent population
Nekolná, Hana ; Kebza, Vladimír (referee) ; Loneková, Katarína (referee)
The rigorous thesis "Risk Factors for Suicidal Behaviour among Czech Adolescent Population" deals with suicidality and suicidal behaviour among adolescents in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the basic terms of this topic, various approaches and understanding of this issue in the past and at present. This work also deals with the forms, methods and motives of suicidal behaviour. Furthermore, it describes the age of adolescence as an independent evolutionary period in the life of a man and analyses the risks of this life era. The theoretical part also contains a description of the epidemiology of this phenomenon and possible diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive approaches to suicidal behaviour. The empirical part of the thesis describes a research in which the goal was to determine a relation to the increase of suicidal risk and the basic dimension of the personality (using the Freiburg's Personality Inventory), social support (by the Perceived Social Support Scale) and life engagement (through the Life Engagement Test). The research sample contained 192 respondents from the senior years of grammar schools and vocational schools from Prague and Vysočina. The results of this research confirmed the connection between a lowered suicidal risk and a higher living...

1 Univerzita Karlova v Praze 1. lékařská fakulta Některé aspekty patofyziologie plicní arteriální hypertenze a její výskyt v České republice Some aspects of pathophysiology of pulmonary arterial hypertension and its epidemiology in the Czech Republic MUDr. Pavel Jansa Praha 2011 2 Abstract Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a group of diseases characterized by a progressive increase of resistance and pressure in pulmonary vascular bed. In all types of PAH the same four pathological processes are reported: vasoconstriction, inflammation, thrombosis and remodelling. The genetic background is essential for the development of PAH. We aimed to investigate the role of polymorphisms of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) genes in PAH. We studied 142 PAH patients and 189 healthy subjects. We examined 3 polymorphisms of the eNOS gene, including the Glu298Asp polymorphism, 27-base pair (bp) variable numbers of tandem repeats (VNTR) and -786 T/C promoter gene polymorphism. Prevalence of 27-bp VNTR allele A was higher in patients with PAH compared with healthy controls. Patients with PAH associated with connective tissue diseases had higher prevalence of AA genotype compared with other PAH subgroups. The Glu298Asp polymorphism and -786 T/C polymorphism are not associated with PAH. Thrombotic arteriopathy is...
Addictive behavior on the Internet in connection with the experience with drugs among children of elementary schools in the Liberec Region
Šubrtová, Eliška ; Vacek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Gabrhelík, Roman (referee)
Based on actual problems extensive use of the Internet and the increasing number of younger children using addictive substances I chose the topic Addictive behavior on the Internet in connection with the experience with drugs among children of elementary schools in the Liberec Region. The main goal of the study is: determine the prevalence of addictive behavior on the Internet, determine the context of demographic data and determine the context of drug use. Finally describe risk factors affecting the addictive behavior. The basis for the work was the scientific literature and studies of this topic. The theoretical part describes the developmental phase of adolescence in relation to substance use and dependency behavior on the Internet, the most common Internet activities and addictive substances in children and the characteristics of addictive behavior on the Internet (including some previously conducted prevalence studies). At the end we present some results of studies that confirm the increased incidence of drug use in addicted individuals on the Internet. The practical part was supported by the research itself, dealt with the description of the methodology of work and the individual results of the research. To achieve the objectives of the research was used three research questions. The survey...
Incidence and molecular typing of Clostridium difficile strains in the Czech republic
Malinová, Anna ; Jirásková, Alena (advisor) ; Čáp, Michal (referee)
Clostridium difficile is a major cause of infectious diarrhea in hospitalized patients. Clostridium difficile-associated disease (CDAD) is of gaining importance now due to its increasing incidence and severity. However, little is known about the C. difficile infections in the Czech Republic. The aim of the study was to characterize C. difficile strains recently isolated (2008 to 2011) from patients hospitalized with gastrointestinal disease in four Prague health care institutions using molecular typing methods; PCR toxinotyping, PCR ribotyping and MLVA (multilocus variable number tandem repeat analysis). Among 273 C. difficile strains, we identified 8 toxinotypes (0, III, IV, V, VI, VIII, IX a XXIII) and 63 ribotypes, of which ribotypes 596 (23,4 % patient), 017 (13,9 %) and 176 (7 %) were the most frequent. According to PCR ribotyping, the situation in the Czech Republic is the most similar to the situation in Poland. Within ribotypes 017, 017/1 and 017/2 and ribotypes 596 and 596/1, 5 and 4 distinct clusters were identified by MLVA, none of which was institution-specific. Additionally, pathogenic C.difficile were isolated from piglet faeces (63,3 %) in a single piglet farm, evaluating the role of C. difficile as an emerging animal pathogen. All piglet isolates belonged to the toxinotype 0 and the ribotype...

Ebola as a medical and social problem
Gantsetseg, Purevsuren ; Hladká, Petra (advisor) ; Kordulová, Pavla (referee)
Introduction: The aim of bachelor thesis is about the preparedness of health care facilities. The unexpected epidemic of Ebola 2014 in West Africa has become an international concern and the preparedness of health care facilities, prevention and control of this disease have become a major issue of concern. Methodology: For the development of the thesis, we chose a qualitative method, a form of research was an interview. The questions were designed in our own creation. The interview was conducted by epidemiological workers in surveyed health care facilities. The main objective of the research was to determine, what the methodologies in health care facilities are during admission and stay of a patient with Ebola. Results: From our analysis, the survey indicates that the organizational structure of hospital care ensures that patient with Ebola are handled according to the Government decree no. 15/2013 and health care facilities proceed according to the directive for unified procedure. In the development of an extraordinary incident, this is subjected to the International Health regulations in relation to the occurrence of highly dangerous infectious diseases in a health care facility. Another finding is that health professionals are familiar with the procedures in care of an Ebola patient by developed...
An analysis of colorectal cancer occurrence in the Czech Republic
Jechová, Zuzana ; Helman, Karel (advisor) ; Langhamrová, Jitka (referee)
The aim of this bachelor's thesis is an analysis of colorectal cancer occurrence in the Czech Republic between 1977 and 2013 and to provide the reader the collection, classification and sources of cancer data. This thesis deals with number of new cases and deaths in each year and their age and sex structure. It also research the impact of deaths from these diseases on life expectancy using single decrement abridged life tables. Finally, trying to predict the value of basic indicators in 2018 thought trend functions and exponential smoothing. The analysis shows that the increase in the number of new cases and deaths have recently begun to stagnate or fall slightly. Disease burded on older people are more men than women. In the case of suppression of deaths from these diseases it will elongate life expectancy in a matter of months. The predictions shows that the number of new cases and deaths will decrease annualy. Based on the data it would be possible to plan specific focus of population screening and structure of health care spending in this area in the next few years.
Biology and diversity of Cryptosporidium infecting squirrels (Sciuridae)
BARVÍŘ, Pavel
In total 399 samples from three species of squirrels (Sciurus vulgaris, Sciurus carolinensis and Callosciurus finlaysonii) were collected from 2010 to 2013. All samples were examined for the presence of Cryptosporidium using by molecular methods, which demonstrated by presence of Cryptosporidium specific DNA in 18 samples (4.5%). Out of them 12 samples were positive onCryptosporidium ferret genotype, 3 on Cryptosporidium skunk genotype, 1 on Cryptosporidium chipmunk genotype I and 2 samples onCryptosporidium ubiquitum. Statistical analyses did not reveal any influence of gender on the occurrence of Cryptosporidium. Juvenile individuals of squirrels from the family Sciuridae are more often infected by Cryptosporidium than the adult animals.
The role of Felidae in the environmental dissemination of human pathogenic unicelular parasites
GRYM, Ondřej
One hundred cats at different levels of habituation, house kept and free living, from Czech republic were screened for the presence of Cryptosporidium, Encephalitozoon spp. and Enterocytozoon bieneusi to consider the risk of close human - cat contact on cryptosporidial and microsporidial infections. The prevalence of Cryptosporidium, Encephalitozoon, and Enterocytozoon bieneusi in cats was determined from fecal specimens by genus-specific PCR. All PCR-positive specimens were sequenced to determine the genotype present. Out of 100 cats, three (3 %) were positive for Cryptosporidium, namely C. felis. Nine cats (9 %) were infected with E. bieneusi genotype D. None out of 35 house kept cats was infected with any tested parasites. No effect of age of animals on occurrence both Cryptosporidium and microsporidia was proved. To our knowledge, this is the first report on the presence of zoonotic species/genotypes of Cryptosporidium, and E. bieneusi in cats in the Czech republic.
