Bláhová, Vendula ; Čada, Karel (advisor) ; Paulíček, Miroslav (referee)
This thesis deals with the identity formation of the members of a professional subculture. Its aim is to describe the mechanisms that contribute to the creation of a professional subculture and identity and that work within the professional socialization of individuals. The whole thesis is based on an example of a definite professional subculture which is opera singers. This means it relates to the "high" culture which is not explored nearly as much as popular culture. The author relies on the theory of subculture and identity, and on the ethnographic study of an internationally known opera company which has been already conducted. She also conducted her own research in a community of classical singing students who are preparing for careers as opera singers, using participant observation, which was supplemented by a series of semi-structured interviews. The author emphasizes practice, real ongoing interactions, and the meanings that the holders of subcultures attach to the actions around them. For this purpose two questionnaires were used - sociometric rating questionnaire SORAD and questionnaire mapping experience of the individuals in interpersonal relationships and their satisfaction with the change of the school community. Based on data analysis and interpretive methods, I conclude that social status is constructed in the earliest interactions between members and there is only a little variability. In the theoretical part, I try to describe the life roles of children in our contemporary modern society. I deal with the problems of family and other socializing factors that are important in creating the personality of a child. The outcomes from the theoretical part are used in the practical one. By means of a long term observation and a dialog I try to describe the process, how the fulfillment of the human needs (or its lack) influences the behavior of the children.
