Politeness in television political discussion
Dufek, Ondřej ; Moravec, Václav (referee) ; Kraus, Jiří (advisor)
Diploma thesis Politeness in Television Political Discussion deals with specific nature of politeness and impoliteness use in mediated political discourse, illustrating it with the Czech Television programme Questions of Václav Moravec. In the first part it defines television political debate as a genre. Then it summarizes development of politeness theories both in world and Czech pragmatic and pragmalinguistic tradition. After synthetising the main conceptions it comes out with its own version of theory of politeness and impoliteness, basing it on Cooperation Principle and politeness theory with utilization of face concept. Then it applies theoretical principles in practical debate analysis and pays attention to the most distinct agents of politeness and impoliteness expression. In conclusion it identifies characteristic regularities of politeness and impoliteness usage in television political discussion and adverts to relevant factors that influence the shape of communication. The diploma thesis helps to map this little explored field, in which conflict interferes with cooperation as two antagonistic forces, and explains their interaction by the usage of politeness and impoliteness.

Hirsch, Cyril ; MYSLÍK, Václav (advisor) ; SVOBODA, Otakar (referee)
Entertainment has been one of the major genres throughout the history of television, which has served an entertainment function from its very beginning. With the arrival of the dual broadcasting system, the genre became controversial in the context of public service to citizens. The thesis discusses the evolution of entertainment programmes in Czech television, placing an emphasis on Česká televize (Czech Television), the public TV. The thesis provides a comprehensive picture of the genre, putting it in the context of the historical development of Česká televize and, later, the arrival of commercial broadcasters in the Czech Republic. It discusses the development of TV entertainment formats in terms of programming, as well as the possibilities and types of programme production. Yet the most important part is the comparison of private broadcasters' and the public institution's approach to the entertainment genre, which, by definition, tends to be rather commercial in its concept.

Attention is further devoted to the respondents’ awareness of the rules for the pronunciation of loanwords and foreign language personal names in Czech.

The Media Image of Visual Arts in Czech Television
Švarcová, Barbora ; BENDOVÁ, Helena (advisor) ; POSPISZYL, Tomáš (referee)
The thesis consists of a context and textual analysis of Artmix, a TV show dedicated to visual arts, while touching on other relevant programs on Czech TV. The results of these analyses are then brought into theoretical setting primarily using the philosophical and social concept of the Field of Power as defined by Pierre Bourdieu in his book Rules of Art. Principal themes, interspersing throughout the text, are the limits of reflections of visual arts through TV screen and hidden interpretational patterns applied to visual arts through its media image. Furthermore there is an additional issue of traditional notions of an artist existing within our society, weighed down by history, or the quest for the ideal format of a TV show reflecting visual arts.

Kučera, Jan ; Ulovec,, Karel (referee) ; Kratochvíl, Tomáš (advisor)
This thesis focuses on analysis, classification, simulation and assessment of the signal fading in the scope of terrestrial digital television reception. This is a phenomenon associated with signal multipath propagation caused by the reflection, dispersion and diffraction of electromagnetic waves in interaction with relief and artificial obstacles. Wave propagation issues in a specific landscape are not the central theme of this project. Signal transmission between the transmitter and receiver is defined by channel profile models. Attention is directed not only to static reception but also to portable and mobile reception. Simulation of this phenomenon takes place in the software environment of MATLAB. In the framework of this project program fundament was created which allows simulate the signal processing across the entire communication chain of television broadcasting, including its transmitting and receiving parts.
