The painter Jacob Seisenegger and his portrait paintings in Bohemia and Moravia. With regard to the development of life size portrait painting in the north of the Alps

This bachelor thesis deals with the work of the Austrian portrait painter Jacob Seisenegger (1505-1567) in Bohemia and Moravia during the years 1529-1562. Jacob Seisenegger in his work focused mainly on life size portrait painting. The introductory part is devoted to the artist's biography and selected examples of portraits created during Seisenegger's work as a court painter at the court of Emperor Ferdinand I of Habsburg. In addition this part is extended with an outline of the development of Renaissance self-portraits in Bohemia. The main part of the thesis is devoted to the individual portraits by Seisenegger of members of the Czech and Moravian aristocracy. Each sub-chapters first introduces the portrayed person and then they focuses on the description, iconography and stylish classification of the artist's works or other contemporaries works. The final part discusses the influence of Jacob Seisenegger on portrait painting in our country.
Education in Austrian aristocratic families from the beginning of 19th century to the 1st half of 20th century

The thesis deals with the education in austrian aristocratic families in the 19th century and in the 1st half of 20th century. The education and upbringing of children had been influented by plenty of factors. The most important factors, which influenced education, were the environment (home or boarding school), specialization of education, the selection of schools and universities and the language of education, too. Parents, nannys and private teachers also had some influence on the upbringing of the children. In the 19th century we can find some common characteristic in some of the noble families (The Schwarzenbergs, the Sternbergs, the Mensdorffs and some others). The 1st half of the 20th century is an essential period for the history of aristocracy. Political changes reflected in its lifestyle and partially in the upbringing and education of the children of the aristocrats. These changes are illustrated on the education of children in the family of prince Johann Schönburg-Hartenstein. Cavaliers on the journey through Europe and time. Traveller reflexions of three Bohemian aristocrats from the beginning of the 17th century to the beginning 18th century

The main topic of the thesis called "Cavaliers on the journey through Europe and time. Traveller reflexions of three Bohemian aristocrats from the beginning of the 17th century to the beginning of the 18th century" is an insight into the life and way of thinking of three early modern Bohemian aristocrats - travellers (Bedrich from Donin, Lev Vilem from Kounice and Krystof Vaclav from Nostice) through their literary work from their journeys. The main sources for this thesis were three contemporary travel books or rather travel diaries available to the wide public of researchers by the editions. The main subject of my research is to display and analyse the intellectual world of aristocrats-travellers on the basis of some specific categories and aspects characteristic to their literary works (social status, religion, age, type of journey and itinerary, representative retinue, the main spheres of their interest and attention, language form and stylistics, composition, etc.). The presented thesis also focuses on demonstrating the many-sided use of travel diaries and points to this specific type of document as a peculiar historical source. The Life of an Aristocrat on Noble Residence in the 19th Century, on the Example of Fürstenberg

1 Abstract The Bachelor's thesis deals with the way of life of the Austrian empire aristocracy in the 19th century, namely the Fürstenbergs of the Křivoklát-Lány lineage. It focuses on the important moments in lives of the aristocrats (marriage policy within the Austrian upper classes, family preservation strategies etc.). In the time of great social changes and weakening of the traditional roles of the aristocrats, choosing partners only within the members of aristocracy seemed to be an appropriate solution, how to maintain the existence of this social elite even in the future. The thesis also analyses the circumstances concerning the reconstruction of the castle Křivoklát after the fire in 1826, during which the specialists started to play increasingly more significant role. The context of the contemporary trends and different opinions on architecture are also taken into consideration. Another important part of this work is the issue of nationality, which is closely connected with the role of German aristocracy within the ethnically tensed society of the 19th century. One of the objectives is to describe social changes after 1848 as well. Provenance and content survey castle library Chuchelná

Theme of this bachelor thesis is provenance and contentual survey castle library Chuchelná. The first chapters are describing ancestry of the Lichnowsky family, history of village Chuchelná and castle buildings. Chapter called "Provenance characteristic of library collection" identifies book owners from Lichnowsky family and assignes individual fascicles to their owner. In chapter "Contentual analysis of the library collection" is elaborated the main subject matter - expresionism, which relates to the principal "magnifier" of this library, Mechtilda Lichnowsky. Provenance and content characteristics of the Library collection in castle Biskupice

(anglicky) This bachelor's thesis processes the library collection in Castle Biskupice. The aim of this thesis consists in the provenance and content characteristics of the library collection in Castle Biskupice. The introduction describes the present situation of the library. The second chapter deals with the library's history. The third chapter outlines the gradual creation of the library and the history of the families that had built it. In the Chapter ˝Provenance characteristics of the collection, an identification of books owners from the family lines of Schaffgotsch, Pálffy, Thurn-Taxis, de Linge and their genealogical relations is provided. Furthermore, this chapter characterizes the collections of particular family members. Partially, it also extends to the collection content characteristics that are provided in general in the follow-up chapter. It divides the collection into particular genres and describes interesting books and authors whose works are to be found in the castle library. The conclusion contains the thesis summary, achieved results and outcomes.
Zdeněk Brtnický of Waldstein and his diary from the years 1597−1603

Ondřej Podavka Zdeněk Brtnický of Waldstein and his diary from the years 1597−1603 (Abstract) The subject of the doctoral thesis is an in many aspects noteworthy personality of Moravian aristocrat Zdeněk Brtnický of Waldstein, one of the 30 directors in the era of rebellion of the estates. The dissertation focuses chiefly on the period of his and pre-university and university studies, for which the largest amount of the sources has been preserved, primarily his voluminous personal diary. Zdeněk Brtnický of Waldstein was born on 12 May 1582. In his very childhood he became an orphan - his father Henry Brtnický of Waldstein and on Sádek died already in 1589, followed by his wife and Zdeněk's mother Susanne Helt of Kement three years later. First place where Waldstein is known to have studied, is Lutheran noblemen's school in Velké Meziříčí, which was founded by Waldstein's grandmother Alena Helt of Kement, born Meziříčská of Lomnice. From 1592 to 1594 he studied in Jihlava, then he studied in Brzeg in Silesia for other two years and in the summer 1596, equipped with good Latin education, he moved on to Strasbourg, where he stayed for three years and attended academy. This diploma thesis critically handles memorial book of John George of Schwamberg, leading noble of Bohemian kingdom, politician, contemporary and inheritor of lasts Rosenbergs. Partly dedicated to memorial books as a phenomenon of early modern age and live of John George from Schwamberg. Objective of this diploma thesis is approximate personal life of Schwamberg, partly his itinerary and circle of "masters and friends" through notes recorded in memorial book. Emphasis is put on individual listings and ilustrations and the differences are taken into account from other memorial books from the same period, possibly on matters that can be found in memorial books routinely too. Diploma thesis deals with emergence of memorial book of John George from Schwamberg, its destiny after death of John George and its next owners too.
