Tereza Peltanová Studijní program: Německá a středoevropská studia Název práce: Beatified Gerhard Hirschfelder - the contribution of a religious figure to the creation of a transnational site of memory Abstract The diploma thesis deals with the origin and development of the cult of the German priest Gerhard Hirschfelder. In the 1930s he worked as a popular chaplain and youth pastor, first in the border village of Czermna and then in Bystrzyca Kłodzka. He disagreed with limiting the power of the Roman Catholic Church by national socialists. He paid for his attitude with his life in the Dachau concentration camp. After the end of the war, the original German and Czech population of the area of Kłodzko was expelled and replaced by Polish people. Since the late 1990s, Hirschfelder has been worshiped by all three nations. He was beatified in 2010. The thesis is a case study of a transnational site of memory (lieu de mémoire). It examines under what circumstances, thanks to which actors and in what form the cult of the German martyr arose on Polish territory. Based on that information, the thesis tries to deduce what symbolism the figure of the priest currently carries for individual national groups.

7 Summary Kultická hudba a zpěv ve starém Egyptě Cultish music and chant in Ancient Egypt Ingrid Špátová, DiS. Music, although this term didn't exist in Ancient Egypt, has played a very importatnt role in the common and cultish Egyptian life. How Egyptian music sounded, can be just guessed, but some characteristics have been preserved on Coptic church. Egyptians probably used the pentatonic scale. Their musical tuning and performance had to observe strict rules to keep order of maat. One of the most important sphere of Egyptian cult have been funerary rituals, including processions with music and lamentations. A fundamental significance in funerary and temple cult have had women musicians, especially priestesses and chantresses of Hathor shemayet. They served to numerous deities, male and female, and they belonged to high- ranking families or to families of the high priests. There were several deities directly connected with music. Gods with the closest connections to musicians and deities with musical attributes were for example Hathor (lately unified with Isis), Usir, Bes, Meret, Hathor's son Ihy, Thovt, Bastet or Ptah. The Apple Phenomenon: the Impact of Modern Technologies on Subject Abstract The goal of the submitted thesis is the study of the company Apple Inc. in the context of how it is percieved by subjects. After a brief introduction of the company Apple Inc. we will focus on semiotic analysis of the brand Apple, its products and marketing strategies. The object of study will be also a present society, whose distinguishing feature is a consumption, and brand perception of a subject in connection with his identity, image building, lifestyle and an inclusion in the social classes. The aim is to uncover which importance is attached to consumer goods by a present society, especially goods marked with the apple logo. According to the facts available, Apple has many of its supporters around the world. The object of this thesis is therefore to clarify the role of the company Apple Inc. and prove that Apple is a certain phenomenon, or even a cult, in a current consumer society, which is accompanied by emotions.

Golden foils from Borg - iconographical and religious analysis

5A Abstract This work gives the analysis of iconographic elements which are found on five gold foils. These foils depict two figures which look at each other from their profile. Foils were found in the foundations of the chieftain house in Lofot's islands in Northern Norway, which is from the Migration to the Viking period. For the reason of analysis the author demonstrates three main groups of gold objects - gold bracteates, gold foils and one medallion. On these objects we can find a pair of two figures and these objects were found in Scandinavia. The author presents here the context of such finds, iconographic elements and academic interpretations of the depiction. Author compares the elements such as type of foil, appearance of eyes, posture of man and woman, their dress and haidress with 91 foils from Scandinavia, and also with bracteates and other objects. She notices the partial concordance among these elements and the other objects and she seeks the iconographic essence and function of each foil from Borg which is later confronted with the theories of the influence of religion. Because of lack of attributes on the foils, the author's assumption is that there is no general depiction of gods on the foil. The Diploma thesis "Devotion and iconography of st. Mary Magdalen" - Two biblical characters have been associated with Mary Magdalene since the time of Gregory the Great; the unnamed sinner and Mary of Bethany. According to the Bible Mary Magdalene was one of the women who accompanied Jesus during His ministry. She was the woman from whom Jesus had cast out seven demons. She washed Jesus' feet with her tears and ointment. When Jesus was crucified she was there standing under the cross. She was present at His funeral. On Easter Sunday she went to the grave of the Lord to anoint His body. She discovered the empty tomb and saw the resurrected Jesus, who appeared to her as a gardener and sent her to announce His Resurrection to His disciples. She is considered "the apostle of the Apostles". According to an old French legend she was put in a boat without sails or oars and sailed to Marseilles, where she preached the gospel. Then she retreated to a cavern. There she lived as a recluse for thirty years. Every day she was lifted by angels up to heaven. She was buried in Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume. Yugonostalgia and the Legacy of Josip Broz Tito

In the first part, this bachelor's thesis follows up the life and work of former Yugoslav leader Josip Broz Tito. It is a recap of his life from his birth in 1892 in the picturesque village of Kumrovec in Croatia until 1980 and his state funeral in Belgrade, which is considered the largest in the world. The work captures the most important moments of Tito's life and his political career. Whether it was abduction to Russia during the First World War, election to the head of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia, command of guerrilla units in World War II, the establishment of AVNOJ, Tito-Stalin split, the establishment of the Non-Aligned Movement, etc. In the next part thesis follow up posthumous legacy in many sectors, whether it is culture, the Internet, tourism, etc. In this part, the work also deals with nostalgia as such, including its definition and the justification for why it is apolitical. The last part of this work follows up differences of opinion on the person of Josip Broz. These differences are researched through an online questionnaire sent to people which are holding Serbian, Croatian or Bosnian citizenship (only Muslims without ethnic Serbs or Croats living in Bosnia and Herzegovina) and which are living both inside and outside the former Yugoslavia.. Oriental Cults in Noricum during the Principate Era

The main topic of the diploma thesis are oriental, Syro-Anatolian cults, which had affected and influenced the natives and other religions in the province of Noricum. It also mentions their origins and the way how they came to Roman Empire. We have set this work into the principate era, because of it's main goal: to explain the arrival of the cults into the province and also the issue of their spreading, rather than their declining period. This diploma thesis is also supplemented with a catalogue, which contains data of every object, which was mentioned in the literature, on the subject of Syro-Anatolian cults.

Iconography and Cult of St. Joseph in the 17th and 18th century Czech lands

The diploma thesis deals with the iconography and cult of St. Joseph in the Czech lands during the Baroque period. The first part of the thesis deals with the way St. Joseph is presented in sources, namely in canonical gospels, apocryphal gospels of childhood and in legends. The development of the cult and iconography of St. Joseph from antiquity to modern times is also outlined. The main part of the thesis focuses on the cult and iconography of St. Joseph in the Czech lands in the 17th and 18th centuries. The influence of the Habsburgs on the spread of this cult is taken into account. Attention is paid to the reception of St. Joseph among the patron saints of Bohemia and the introduction of his public holiday in 1654, which arose on the initiative of Emperor Ferdinand III. The next part of the thesis analyzes the responses to the reception of St. Joseph among the patron saints of Bohemia in art and also on the examples of his depiction in Baroque art in the Czech lands. The researched monuments include the fountain with the column of St. Joseph in the New Town of Prague, the statue of St. Joseph on Charles Bridge, painting of the Holy Family in the Church of Our Lady before Týn and the St. Joseph's painting cycle in Krzeszów in Silesia.
