The BA thesis is composed of two major parts - the Czech translation of the article entitled Les Sept Merveilles du monde published in 1988 in the French magazine Notre histoire and the commentary on its translation that is concerned with the analysis of the problems emerging from this translation. The practical part entailed an appropriate conversion of a journalistic article Sedm divů světa, which was translated with the aim of preserving the stylistic level established by the original and creating a text approachable by the Czech audience at the same time. The theoretical part then reflects the methods of translation and subsequent translation shifts that were necessary in order to create a readable and understandable result.

Annotated Czech Translation of Selected Chapters from "This Little Britain: How One Small Country Changed the Modern World"

(in English): This bachelor thesis aims to translate two chapters of the book This Little Britain into Czech and to comment on this translation afterwards. The commentary includes the following parts: assignment for the translation, translation analysis of the source text based on the work of Christiane Nord, the description of issues arising during the translation process and possible solutions to these issues, and finally, the descriptions of the translation shifts as defined by Jiří Levý which are accompanied by the explanation why these shifts have occurred. The subject of this Bachelor thesis is an annotated translation of an original German text into Czech. The translated text includes the first two chapters from a book by Hermann Haken and Maria Haken-Krell called Gehirn und Verhalten. Unser Kopf arbeitet anders, als wir denken. The thesis is composed of two parts, of the translation and a commentary. The commentary includes a translation oriented analysis of the original text, the concept and methods of translation and a typology of translation problems and their solutions on different textual levels, followed by a typology of translation shifts. The commentary is based on translation textbooks by Ch. Nord, J. Levý, D. Knittlová and A. Popovič.

The bachelor thesis comprises two main parts: the translation and its theoretical reflection. The first part contains a translation of Thomas Ahbe's sociological studyfrom Germaninto Czech. The study deals with Ostalgie, a phenomena relatively little-known in the Czech Republic. In the theoretical part of the thesis, translation analysis based on Cristiane Nord's model is carried out, followed by the setting of the translation method and the description of the translation problems and shifts. The conclusion sums up, primarily, the intercultural aspect of the translation.

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to create a German-Czech translation and to complete it with a commentary. The translated text consists of selected chapters from the website www.daenemark-reiseguide.de, where tourist information about Denmark can be found. The first part of the commentary includes a translation analysis of the original text. Based on the analysis is deduced the translation method, which affects further translation process and the way of solving specific translation problems. Large part of the commentary describes lexicological problems, especially problems with translation of the geographical names and of the Danish life and institutions. The commentary is concluded by a chapter about thematic shifts.

Annotated translation: The beginning of the Schleswig-Holstein question

The purpose of the doctoral thesis written by Joachim Daebel is to describe the Schleswig-Holstein movement and its impact on Germany in particular. This topic in the way how it is conceived in the given thesis is highly interesting from the translators point of view. There are two reasons for this fact. The first one is a rather low concern about it in the Czech area which leads to the uncertainty about how to translate the terminology of history and law which appears in a large amount. The second one is the complicated language used by the author of the thesis. The paper is written with the use of an extremely difficult syntax which emphasizes the differences between Czech and German. The frequency of technical terms and complicated syntax are the main features of the doctoral thesis which cause problems and must be solved by the translator. The aim of this annotated translation is to create an equivalent version of the original text from a functional point of view with the use of a convenient language.

Annotated translation: Militarism in Latin America (Pere Ortega y Juan S. Gómez)

This bachelor thesis consists of two parts. The first part is practical and it includes a translation of the first two chapters from the study Militarismo en América Latina (Militarism in Latin America) from Spanish into Czech language. The text describes the evolution and current situation of militarism in Latin America. The second part of the present thesis is theoretical and it includes a linguistic commentary of the translation. It consists of a translation-oriented text analysis made according to Nord's model, it's enriched by the Czech functional stylistics. The second part of the present work includes as well a description of translation problems on different levels and their solutions.
