History of the Institute of Czech Language of Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences

Institute of the Czech Language was established in the year 1946 and in its work continued and was extended the research traditions and mission of its predecessor: Office of the Czech-Language Dictionary. In the year 1953 the Institute was incorporated in the new Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. Despite having been subjected to ideological pressure until the fall of the totalitarian regime in 1989, the most significant Czech linguistic position was nevertheless able to reach and keep in the high-quality scientific work. Institute of the Czech Language of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences did an all-round research on the Czech Language not only in its repreentative form but also in its local and social dialects and historical development. lts educational activities were important, too. Wrong site surgery prevention in orthopaedics

Aim: The main aim of the study was an analysis of precautions of wrong side surgery in the Czech Republic and comparison with our neighbouring countries (Germany, Slovakia, Russia). Methodics: We used an anonymous questionnaires sented into hospitals having orthopaedic clinic or orthopaedic department in the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia and Russia. Than we evaluated returned questionnaires. Results: 60% of hospitals in the Czech republic has an internal standard of the pacient identification and wrong- side surgery prevention, 53% use a plastic bracelet. Praeoperative verification performs in 80% at least two members of operation team in the Czech Republic. An epizode of wrong-side surgery indicate 27% of interviewed hospistals. Half of that were faculty hospitals. 60% of czech hospitals performed some changes in wrong-side surgery prevention in last ten years. Only 20% of interviewed hospitals in Germany use a plastic bracelet. Praeoperative verification performs in 40% at least two members of operation team in Germany. 40% of hospitals in germany performed some changes in wrong-side surgery prevention in last ten years. Wrong-side surgery prevention is in the next rated parameters on the same level in the Czech republic and in Germany. We couldn't evaluate and compare results from Slovakia and Russia...

The role of microRNAs in chronic lymphocytic leukemia

2 Abstract MicroRNAs (miRs, miRNAs) are recently discovered molecules (19-25 nucleotides long) that regulate gene expression at post-transcriptional level by either blocking protein synthesis or mRNA degradation. As a part of gene silencing mechanism, miRNAs are involved in cellular processes, such as apoptosis, cell proliferation, development and viral defence. miRNAs have been intensely studied in connection to disease pathogenesis. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the most common leukemia in Western countries affecting mostly elderly people. In my work I focus on explanation of miRNA functions and their contributions to chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). I describe previously published data about miRNA-15, miRNA-16, miRNA-143, miRNA-145 and miRNA-155 in connection to this disease. Based on recent reports, I also discuss the potential role of miRNA-326 in CLL pathogenesis.

Accidents prevention and safe movement on watercourses in the Czech Republic

This work focuses on the possibilities of accidents prevention and safe movement in the Czech water tourism in the comparison with the advanced preventive-safety system of tourist-mountaineering activities in Alpine countries. I am concerned with the level of Czech safety system by finding out the number of persons to which the accidents and drownings on our rivers refer to in this work. Further on I consider whether a specific type of publication is successful on the market of water tourism and canoeing area as a mean to increase the safety, and which other kinds of means are used to reduce the quantity of accidents. I summarize which subjects are interested in this issue and by which manner they participate in improving the conditions on the water in the main part of this work. I suggest the possibilities of increasing the safety on Czech watercourses in the conclusion. Following methods were used in this work: the method of induction on the basis of questionnaires, the method of processed results of dialogues with selected rental shops comparison and the descriptive statistical methods in the form of graphical analysis. School libraries in Spain and selected countries of Latin America: analysis and comparison with school libraries in the Czech Republic

Diplomová práce analyzuje současný stav školních knihoven ve Španělsku a podává nástin situace i v Latinské Americe. K hlavním cílům patří zejména porovnání se stavem školních knihoven v České republice. Zabývá se trendy v oblasti školních knihoven, legislativou na národní i mezinárodní úrovni a možným způsobem evaluace činnosti práce školních knihoven. Práce obsahuje šest kapitol a přílohu. Stěžejní částí práce jsou kapitoly třetí, čtvrtá a pátá, které detailněji popisují školní knihovny ve Španělsku podle nejnovějších studií z této oblasti, a porovnávají s Českou republikou. V závěru jsou vysvětleny použité zkratky. Přílohu diplomové práce tvoří ukázka projektu jedné školní knihovny ve Španělsku a popis elektronického adresáře španělských školních knihoven.
