Aspects of the Judeo-Spanish linguistic variety of Thessaloniki
Garcia, Kateřina ; Zavadil, Bohumil (advisor) ; Nosek, Bedřich (referee) ; Čermák, Petr (referee)
The aim of this study is to offer a complete insight into the current situation of the Judeo- Spanish linguistic variety of Thessaloniki, a language that evolved within the community of Sephardic Jews that settled in the city from 1492, as a direct consequence of their expulsion from the Iberian Peninsula. This study is divided into three parts, each of them dedicated to a different aspect of this specific Judeo-Spanish variety. The first part examines Judeo-Spanish as a language of the Jewish Diaspora, in the broader context of the general theory of evolution of Jewish languages. Judeo-Spanish is depicted here as a distinctive language which, although based largely on Medieval Castillian and other Romance varieties spoken by the Jews prior to their expulsion from the Peninsula, consequently evolved after their transfer to the Eastern Mediterranean into a specific linguistic system. An extensive chapter is dedicated to the history and characterisation of the term Sepharad, which I consider of great importance not only for the elucidation of the circumstances of birth and evolution of the Judeo-Spanish language, but also for a better understanding of its current critical situation. This is followed by an introduction into the different functional and geographical varieties of Judeo-Spanish, as well as of...

Municipal administration and offices in the Middle Elbe region during the Thirty Years' War
Ďurčanský, Marek ; Hojda, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Čornejová, Ivana (referee) ; Pešek, Jiří (referee)
The operation of municipal offices and municipal administration in general was not a too popular topic in Czech historiography. Even this aspect of the life of Czech towns was strongly influenced by the persecution of Czech estates after the battle on the White Mountain and following processes with the gravity centre in the third decade of the 17th century, as well as by the direct and indirect consequences of military actions. Research in such area can also enrich our knowledge of many aspects of contemporary city life and contribute to a better explanation of such consequential phenomena as emigration and recatholicization. The municipal councils and municipal offices can often be named as nervus rerum in these circumstances. To elaborate the problems of military influences on administration in the times of the Thirty Years' War fully is not possible without more detailed studies about the situation of particular municipal offices. This kind of research would enable us to compare several regions. But there is a lack of such studies. The way out can be found by using proper surveys of the situation of several towns. Such probes would outline basic tendencies and phenomena, or the key questions for the subsequent research, such as: a) the extent and structure of the bodies of municipal administration and...

Janebová, Lucie ; Liška, Petr (advisor) ; Elek, Štefan (referee)
The Consumer Loan Contract and its Securing by Suretyship As is self-evident from the title of the thesis, the subject matter of the thesis is the analysis of the concept of consumer credit and the securing thereof through suretyship. The starting point of the thesis was the newly-adopted Consumer Credit Act, which came into force on 1 January 2012. The aim of this thesis is to acquaint its readers with the relevant legislation, point out its shortcomings, and analyse the concept of suretyship as the most typical instrument used to secure consumer credit obligations, thus giving the reader a full picture of these legal concepts. The thesis is divided into nine chapters. The first chapter describes a contractual relationship under the credit contract, which is governed by legal regulations similar to those governing a consumer credit contract or a loan contract. This chapter analyses the essential terms of a credit contract, its origination and termination. Also analysed are the differences between a credit contract and a loan contract under the Civil Code. The second chapter describes the history of the consumer credit concept, in both domestic and European contexts. Particular emphasis is given to the individual directives of the European Community, currently the European Union, since they are of...

Priesthood on the crossroad
Zajíc, Jan ; Kandert, Josef (advisor) ; Spalová, Barbora (referee)
The thesis deals with the crisis of the Roman-Catholic priesthood within the Czech Church and society. It aims to provide evidence of this crisis, to describe it and document its appearance, identifying possible sources of its present form. The study aims to answer the crucial question: Why is the contemporary priesthood in our country in this crisis? A historical discussion sets the context in which the priesthood was formed during the key periods of the world history of the Roman-Catholic Church, and later also the Czech church. It traces the formation of the clerical role in direct relation to historical events, up to the contemporary conception of the priesthood and the form it takes in this country. Using quantitative data and empirical research by research agencies as well as original qualitative investigation, the thesis analyses the levels that play a key role in the form of this crisis. Based on these methods, the thesis suggests sources or reasons for this crisis and answers the question of why this crisis is felt by priests and many other members of the Roman-Catholic Church. The thesis's main contribution lies in its mapping of the original aspects of the Roman-Catholic conception of the Christian priesthood which seeks its fulfilment in the history of the Church. The study offers an insight...

The economy of Spain and its position in the European Union
Hlávková, Eva ; Jeníček, Vladimír (advisor) ; Jelínek, Jiří (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to assess the economy of Spain and its position in the European Union. The European integration processes significantly influenced the development of democracy in Spain as a member state of EU. The period after Franco regime would last undoubtedly much longer and it would grow less dynamically without these processes. The influence of EU affected not only the Spanish economy, but also the current position of Spanish monarchy in Europe and in the whole world. The thesis is structured in three main parts. To be able to assess the Spanish economy during its membership in the EU, it is essential to study the procedures of negotiations between the candidate country and the Community. That is the reason why the first part is engaged in the pre-entry phase. The second part examines in detail the development of the economy after the reintroduction of democracy in the country. It deals mainly with the macroeconomic tendencies, their causes together with consequences. The progress concerns the economic situation in Spain before the entry to the Community, in the second half of eighties, as well as during the nineties. The thesis does not forget to be engaged in the current situation in the new millennium and it also outlines the possible development in the following years. The last part is devoted to the position and the influence of Spain on the main integration directions in the European Union. The coherence and the extent of evaluation can be considered one of the benefits of this work. The thesis introduces the complex view of the Spanish economy since the entry to the EU. It also deals with possible following tendencies. The understanding of the development is facilitated by a large number of graphs and tables, which help to outline the essence of the topic.
