Word order in Czech subordinate clauses
Sedláček, Miroslav ; Hošnová, Eva (advisor) ; Zikánová, Šárka (referee)
This diploma essay contributes to the studies of the Czech word order. Its theoretical background is provided by the findings of the Czech school of functional sentence perspective (FSP), represented by Jan Firbas and Aleš Svoboda. Based on the material excerpted from the present-day Czech corpora SYN 2005, this paper presents a broad scale of word order varieties in Czech subordinate clauses. Special attention is paid to the word order position of the theme elements and the most common adverbial complements. In comparison to primary clause some differences are pointed out: The transit centre (or transit proper or theme proper) position in front of the theme centre and rheme is a characteristical feature of subordinate clause, whereas in the primary clauses it applies to rather limited number of clauses. The emotional (subjective) word order is often caused by unfitting allocation of information instead of emotional movement. The initial theme in the subordinate clause seems to be of higher degree of communicational dynamism (CD) compared to the primary clause. It proved useful to differentiate premedial theme (in front of transit centre), which has higher degree of CD than postmedial theme (behind transit centre). Influenced by the spoken language, final theme also occurs. The tension between FSP and...

Complications during pregnancy - epidemiology and risk factors
Clausen, Maria ; Velebil, Petr (advisor)
Pregnancy is a normal, healthy state which most women aspire to at some point in their lives. Yet this normal process carries with it serious risks of death and disability to mother, child or both. The worst outcome of these complications is maternal or fetal death. In this work, the focus will be on maternal death, maternal mortality ratio worldwide, causes and to review what is done in order to prevent and decrease the high number of avoidable deaths. The fact is that worldwide, eight million women suffer pregnancy-related complications and over half a million young women die every year as a result of complications arising from pregnancy and childbirth. 99% occur in developing countries. Most of these deaths could be avoided if preventive measures were taken and adequate care available, this including adequate nutrition, improved hygiene practices, family planning available for all, antenatal care, skilled health workers assisting at births, emergency obstetric and newborn care, and postnatal visits for both mothers and newborns. In developing countries, one woman in 16 may die of pregnancy-related complications compared to one in 2800 in developed countries.

Prevention of breast cancer
Orbeck-Nilssen, Johannes ; Šafář, Petr (advisor)
Breast cancer is the most frequent cancer and the the 2nd leading cause of cancer deaths occurring in women. Each year in the United States approximately 211,000 women are diagnosed with invasive breast cancer, and close to 60,000 are diagnosed with in situ cancer. Of these patients about 40,000 are expected to die from the disease. The etiology of breast cancer is not clearly known, but it is believed to be a combination of both genetic and environmental factors. According to research about 90-95% of breast cancers occurs sporadic, while 5- 10% are believed to be inherited. The most common genetic mutations increasing the risk of cancer are BRCA1 and BRCA 2. Individuals carrying this mutation has a 60-80% lifetime risk of getting breast cancer. However, the most important risk factors associated with breast cancer are female gender and increasing age. Lifestyle related risk factors such as HRT(hormone replacement therapy), oral contraceptives, obesity, lack of exercise, alcohol consumption also contribute to an increased risk. It is important to remember that the presence or absence of risk factors does not mean you will get the disease. In fact 75% of women who get breast cancer have no other risk factors than gender and increasing age. Currently the best preventive options for breast cancer is early...

Those changes caused the topic to be considered as a part of the art material with specific symbolic meaning. The detail in the landscape, which it by its characteristic creates, is the reason for the attention this topic gains. The evolution of the fine arts based on those changes is described in the following chapters. The practical part of the thesis is based on artwork, which is represented by a collection of paintings and assemblages that were inspired by the motives of devastation in the urban periphery context. One of the objects, which are being used, as an art subject, is litter. The meaning of the litter is then transformed. The didactic part of the thesis consists of variety of themes based on the...

The first chapter is dedicated to the analysis of Aristotle's notions ofthe soul and iťs capacities. Mainly we outline the description of senseory perception, phantasia, intelect, cognition and thought.
