Formation of Czechoslovakia: Czech Politics and the Issue of State Territory
Bayer, Lukáš ; Moravcová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Romancov, Michael (referee)
The thesis is looking into the establishment of Czechoslovakia from the perspective of territorial claims of Czech (or more precisely Czechoslovak) policy. It deals with the period of time during World War I when the Czech politicians officially - first through Masaryk's resistance movement abroad and later (in the Spring 1917) on a domestic political scene (Austrian-Hungarian) declared their goal - to achieve independence. The end of the thesis then deals with the negotiations held at the post-war conference in Paris where it was definitely decided about fulfilment (or the opposite) of Czech territorial claims. Czech politicians aspired to establish an independent state which would be territorially larger than the actual territory inhabited by ethnic Czechs. During World War I a certain consensus was achieved as far as the basic territorial claims were concerned - Slovakia, Sub-Carpathian Ruthenia, Serbian Luzice, Czech Land within its historical borders (i.e. even the territories that were populated by Germans and mostly Polish Tesin). As for Slovakia, Sub-Carpathian Ruthenia and Serbian Luzice, these territories were populated by Slavs (therefore inhabitants ethnically close to Czechs). However, this territory was formed by non-Slavic states (Hungary and Germany) and a strong nation- liberation movement...

The beginning stage of the party system formation in Ukraine: from the origin of the opposition movements to the parliamentary elektions in 1994
Bilanyn, Inna ; Zilynskyj, Bohdan (advisor) ; Kubát, Michal (referee)
The policy of Gorbachov's Perestroika stimulated the emancipation of soviet society. At the same time it also launched the process of the political life democratization - different opposition associations and political parties started to appear. An impulse for the rise of the opposition movement in Ukraine was connected to the tragedy of Chernobyl, which influenced public and political life in the country. Many ecological and cultural organizations, which occurred right after the Chernobyl tragedy, became the base for the mass Ukrainian opposition movement named Rukh few years after. From the very start it was just the organization which gathered together people with different political views. In a few years Rukh became the strongest political subject in the opposition to the ruling power and gave the foundation for the rise of the new political parties. Despite the fact that the Communist party of Ukraine lost its absolute power and control over society, the sympathy to the left ideology among Ukrainian population still remained strong. New left-wing parties began to appear in the political stage soon after the prohibition of the Communist party. The forbidden party served as the base for newly appeared parties with the leftist ideology (similar as Rukh for national oriented parties). Renewed Ukrainian...

Veselá, Dominika ; Dvořák, Petr (advisor) ; Veselá, Jitka (referee)
This thesis deals with the organizational structure of financial supervision in Germany with a view to asses the recently completed institutional integration. First, the overview of theoretical models of financial supervisory agencies is submitted including advantages and disadvantages of such concepts. Being aware of the absence of a sole universal applicable solution of the institutional organization of financial supervision, the fundamental requirements are introduced, generally imposed on every financial regulation system in order to perform its tasks effectively. The emphasis of this paper rests upon presenting the German financial supervision in several terms. The main section surveys the evolution of supervision until the formation of BaFin -- Federal Financial Supervision Agency, the ample scope is devoted to legal issues, the inner organization of BaFin is described in detail and the particular attention is paid to funding. The reality of day-to-day supervisory activities is explored in the passage related to problems of financial supervision, where especially the complex question of mutual cooperation between BaFin and Bundesbank In the field of bank supervision comes to light. The supervision-costs analysis focused on the situation prior to integration and mistakenly assumed course after its implementation supplements the general view. Considering all proposed facts the conclusion offers a review of assumptions ensuring a proper supervisory structure.
