Unintended impoliteness of Czech speakers in English. A Czech-English contrastive study
Vokurková, Iva ; Klégr, Aleš (advisor) ; Šaldová, Pavlína (referee)
In the world of today, cross-cultural interaction takes place every day at many levels of our lives, be it a study stay abroad, work, migration or simply a holiday. The world is getting more and more interconnected, the term "global village" is today more true than ever and with globalisation and European Union integration people from various parts of the world and with various cultural backgrounds are brought together and interact in one way or another. However, communication, although having a number of universally applicable features, is culturally (as well as socially, etc.) determined and therefore it is of great importance to the interactants from culturally different backgrounds to keep this fact in mind and be constantly aware that in different cultures people can be accustomed to achieving the same ends by using different linguistic (and other) means. The field that studies the differences as well as similarities between linguistic means and communicative patterns of different languages is called cross-cultural pragmatics. Its outputs and conclusions help to detect the pragmatic sources of miscommunications as well as bring a new perspective on the languages and cultures in question. This knowledge proves useful not only in foreign language classrooms but in all sorts of situations to all kinds of...

Strengthening of quality of life in patients after total hip arthroplasty

Opacity quantification in cardiac angiogram sequence
Kazmar, Tomáš ; Zitová, Barbara (referee) ; Kybic, Jan (advisor)
Angiography is an important method to diagnose patients with myocardial thrombosis. It is usualy used to detect a stenosis in one of arteries but the data can be further processed to discover problematic capilary areas. This is strongly suggested because the catheterization is invasive, it involves a certain risk for pacient and especially it would be invaluable for further decisions about proper pharmaceutical treatment. Problem of opacity quantification on a MBG scale has not been satisfactorily solved yet.1. The student shall discuss the following in his diploma thesis: recapitulation and comparisons of various methods applicable to the problem of opacity quantification, especially image registration and movement correction, develop a method to automatically quantify the opacity and further implement it as well.

Utilization of high-frequency conductivity senzor for detection of compounds in gas phase
Kupcová, Kristýna ; Čabala, Radomír (referee) ; Jelínek, Ivan (advisor)
in English This thesis is aimed at studying quality of a high-frequency impedance capacitance sensor for the toxic gases, especially acetone, n-hexane, trichloromethane, toluene. Those organic solvents are the basic raw material of the chemical industry. Their concentration in the air should be detected thanks to their toxicity and tenuousness. If the sensor is sensitive, it will be possible to miniaturize it and test it in an ambience of chemical factories where we can miniaturize the health risks.

Anthropometric parameters in medical students
Procházková, Linda ; Rambousková, Jolana (advisor)
The aim of this work was to validate and verify changes in the students of the 3rd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University regarding their lifestyle and nutritional status with emphasis on the actual nutrition itself. Voluntary male and female students of 1st and 6th year were measured and their BMI values and percentage of body fat values were recorded using methods of bioimpedance measurement and questionnaires targeting their lifestyles and eating habits. A total of 35 female students of 1st year was measured as compared to 27 in their 6th year of studies and a total of 27 male students of 1st year compared to 7 in the 6th year. Questionnaire was filled in by 41 female students of the 1st year, 31 female students of the 6th year. Male students who filled in the questionnaire numbered 23 in the 1st year compared to 13 in the 6th year of their studies. In accordance of our hypothesis we came to conclusion that BMI index values and the percentage of body fat have midly risen in the students of the 6th year compared to the students of the 1st year. However, regarding lifestyle, a higher sport activity and lower use of alcohol and tobacco products was detected with female students of the 6th year in comparison with female students of the 1st year.

System TOGA and work style questionnaire for managers
Krištof, Daniel ; Štikar, Jiří (advisor) ; Štětovská, Iva (referee) ; Gregar, Aleš (referee)
In theoretical part of dissertation author describes the constitution of the system called TOGA as a unifying concept which enables assessment of work style of managers based on systemisation of their activities into three categories. It differentiates the following categories of activities: diagnostically oriented activities, algorithmically oriented activities and creatively oriented activities. Based on these universal and understandable categories it assesses the preference of particularly oriented activities. In system of TOGA the term work style of manager is described as an individually characteristic level how manager prefers activities with diagnostic, algorithmic, creative orientation. Higher risk is assigned to the profile of work style of manager who dislikes or neglects or refuses certainly oriented activities. Typical mistakes but also recommendations are described for individual managers as well as measures to be implemented by their superiors. In research part of dissertation author introduces results of standardisation study of questionnaire which assesses attitude/preference to diagnostically, algorithmically and creatively oriented activities. Reliability, validity, item analysis and norms are demonstrated in the study.

Diakonal and pastoral care of children at risk
Leščinská, Renáta ; Lášek, Jan Blahoslav (referee) ; Veverková, Kamila (advisor)
Diploma work 'Diaconal and pastoral care of children at risk' deals with the responsibility of church at taking care of children in critical situations. The aim of the work is to highlight the importance of making attitude to this issue. The introductory part deals with the conception of children at risk from the theological and sociological point of view. The work deals also with the classification of the diacony and pastoral work and their common patterns. The practical part of the diploma work treats with case studies- casuistics of several young people, who were in their childhood in the situation at risk. At the end of the work, there are mentioned some of the universal eductions, that result from the study.

PTSD predictors related to professional selection
Klose, Jiří ; Štikar, Jiří (advisor) ; Machačová, Helena (referee) ; Kořán, Martin (referee)
The research study deal with influences of traumatic events on military personnel deployed to war zones of Afghanistan, Iraq and Kosovo. Describing influence of excessive stress in its intensity and chronicity, and detect predictors of PTSD is the main task of the study. PTSD is now one of the most extended combat stress outcomes which cause serious health problems. These problems often influence soldier's family, limit re-union, increase risk of failure, redukce ability to figur, and influence future deployment. Results are useable for military personnel selection, training, prevention planning, diagnostic process and treatment of traumatic stress consquences. Main PTSD predictors studied were age, race, intelligence, psychic functions performance in stress conditions, personality, especially Hardiness and Sense of Coherence. Results are from Czech soldiers deployed in missions abroad, also the international studies comparison is made.

Artificial neural networks and their application in the assessment of insurance risks
Macek, Karel ; Jiroutek, Pavel (referee) ; Mrázová, Iveta (advisor)
The present work studies applicability of artificial neural networks in the assessment of insurance risk. Structure and function of multilayer perceptrons, Kohonen maps, Fuzzy ART networks, and Fuzzy ARTMAP networks are described. Concept of insurance risk is defined and the ratemaking by generalized linear models is introduced. Neural networks' methods for reduction of input space's dimension, knowledge extraction, and visualization are summed up. Data describing traffic accidents are acquainted and results achieved on them are presented. The work successfully demonstrates theoretically and experimentally that multilayer perceptrons approximate better than generalized linear models. Modification of multilayer perceptron estimated distribution function of total claim. Analysis performed by Kohonen map and by subsequent visualization detected two significant clusters. Analysis by Fuzzy ART network is presented as a part of new algorithm for reduction of input space's dimension. New algorithm inspired by Fuzzy ARTMAP network discovered a group of accidents where the claim is above average. This group is delimited by interpretable rules. Attached CD contains scripts for Matlab and MySQL that was used for mentioned analyses.
