Impact of ethnic war in Sri Lanka on social status of Tamil women
Hrdličková, Zuzana ; Vrhel, František (advisor) ; Štěpánová, Irena (referee) ; Knotková, Blanka (referee)
This PhD Thesis focuses on the relationship between war and gender, contextually set in Sri Lanka. It describes theoretical categories and specific gender issues typical to war, such as universal gendering of war and impact on the whole gender structure of war affected societies. The work then focuses on Tamil society in Sri Lanka: it shows the roots of contemporary Tamil female gender stereotype - old Dravidian belief in the female power of anangu and the ancient Hindu Law of Manu. These have resulted into twentieth century Sri Lankan Tamil female gender stereotyping, centred on the concept of kapu (chastity), i.e. self-controlled behaviour in every aspect of female existence stressing virginity in unmarried women, their limited interaction with the opposite sex and highlighting the most auspicious state of a woman - in marriage. Structuring women as chaste implied before the war their role was mainly in the domestic sphere, with very limited interaction with the world outside their homes and neighbourhoods. However, the Sri Lankan ethnic conflict (as described in this work), which started in the 1980s and continues until now, has had a serious impact on the lives of the majority of Sri Lankan Tamil civilians and their societal norms and constructions. Death of many men, displacement and destruction has...

Electrical Trauma
Werner, Petr ; Königová, Radana (advisor)
While energy flash terrified humanity for thousands of years of history, electricity produced by man serve humanity but also threatening , since 1879 , when Thomas Alva Edison discovered the electric light . its system delivery and use of energy was direct current , which is not suitable for high voltage power transmission over long distance. In 1885, he demonstrated another discovery . George Westinghouse has developed a system using alternating current transformers, which are designed to increase the voltage on the one hand and transmission distribution of energy, and reduce stress on energy consumption. ten years lasted feud between advocates of direct and alternating current, which was ended up using alternating current to Niagara Falls in 1895 and for execution by electric chair in 1900. Passing a current through each wire heats up. electrical work made to the current passes through a conductor , all converted into heat. losses thermal energy is proportional to the resistance wire and increases the second square of the current . Therefore, it is advantageous when high energy performance over long distances transmit energy high voltage at low current in the line. With increasing demands on energy was necessary to develop appropriate preventive measures and technical security, as well as improved methods...

Managing of the change in the nursing care in The Regional hospital Kolin,a.s.
Válkova, Monika ; Hradcová, Dana (advisor) ; Charvátová, Petra (referee)
The dissertation is devoted to the introduction process of changes in the directing of nursing care in the pilot program of the Continual increasing of the quality in the neurological department of the Regional hospital in Kolin, a.s. In the preamble of my magister work, I deal with theoretical informations, which are very important for understanding of the processus of the changes in practice. I generally deal with the quality of the health care and with the models how to direct the quality of the health care. I compare if there is a difference in the protests of the staff against the changes in the health care and in some industry branches. The theoretical part of my work is concentrated to the quality model of the Continual increasing, to the problems in its introduction into practice and to the barriers against its realisation in practice. The practical part of my work is devoted to the methods of diagnostics of the organisation, which were used in the process of the direction of the changes. The main part of the work is in the analysis of the situation, which has become the starting point for the direction of the changes in the nursing care. The work is illustrating the individual steps, which were necessary to be made for the realisation of the organisation and Continual increasing program vision. It...

Oxidative stress, microinflammation and cardiovascular risk in patients with chronic kidney disease
Hodková, Magdalena ; Kalousová, Marta (advisor) ; Průša, Richard (referee) ; Racek, Jaroslav (referee)
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients are at a significantly higher risk of atherosclerotic complications when compared to the general population. Oxidative stress and the related chronic microinflammation are possible causes of this increased cardiovascular risk, which is most pronounced in patients undergoing chronic haemodialysis (HD) treatment. Oxidative stress in HD patients can be further increased by routine pharmacological interventions (especially by intravenous - i.v. iron preparations administration). The aim of the thesis was to investigate neutrophil respiratory burst and some molecules related to oxidative stress and chronic inflammation - pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A (PAPPA), advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP), C-reactive protein (CRP), intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and E-selectin during HD session and to find out whether they can be pharmacologically affected by i.v. ferric sodium-gluconate and oral vitamin E administration. We focused on studying PAPP-A in chronic renal disease (CKD) patients, patients treated with continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and chronic HD patients. We have observed that HD patients' neutrophils are primed to generate greater quantities of superoxide than those of healthy controls. This production decreases during HD and...

Access to Justice in Environmental Matters
Bernard, Michal ; Damohorský, Milan (advisor) ; Smolek, Martin (referee) ; Sobotka, Michal (referee)
The aim of this work on Access to Justice in Environmental Matters is to describe possibilities of access of natural and legal persons to the judicial protection of the environment in the Czech Republic. Judicial protection is an important element of ensuring the right to favourable environment. To ensure effective environmental protection and the rights of individuals to the favourable environment, it is necessary to ensure the widest possible access of natural and legal persons to public authorities and courts claiming the illegality of decisions, acts and omissions of public authorities or third parties. Broad judicial protection of the right to favourable environment is necessary and indispensable part of democratic system and a prerequisite for the functioning of basic human rights in practice. This work must first address the question of substantive legal right to favourable environment -its content and range of entities to which this fundamental constitutional right belongs. Right to favourable environment means the right to an environment which is polluted below given limit. Thus, on environmental polluted and stressed as a consequences of human activities, including the introduction of physical, chemical or biological agents emissions and agents in extent to which the legal regulations on...

English book titles in gerundial form
Blaheta, Radek ; Dušková, Libuše (advisor) ; Šaldová, Pavlína (referee)
The category of gerund is a symptomatic component of the grammatical system of present-day English. Numerous studies have dealt with its nature and functions as well as with its delimitation as opposed to related forms of present participle or verbal noun. No matter whether the term gerund is used or not and whether it is theoretically sustainable to differentiate between the related -ing forms, it is obvious that the -ing form that in many contexts clearly displays both nominal and verbal features plays a crucial role within both written and spoken discourse. Nonetheless, apart from the gerund operating within continuous texts, it is revealing to explore its behaviour and functions in the text-frame components, particularly the title, i.e. a text-frame component with a crucial role in the printed publication of a book type. In this context, it is necessary to present 3 basic starting points of the present study: 1. the notion of gerund as a grammatical category is retained in this study (see 2.1.3); 2. a new term - gerund title l - is introduced in order to capture the analyzed structures (see the detailed characterization in 2.3); 3. the analysis is largely based on the functional approach.

Eisenhower Administration and Guatemala 1954-1961
Měřička, Daniel ; Nálevka, Vladimír (advisor) ; Raška, Francis (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis is the U.S. effort to build a "showcase for democracy" in Guatemala during the Eisenhower administration that was doomed from the beginning. The U.S. government itself lacked both the continuous commitment at the top and the unify of purpose necessary to mount such an undertaking. Guatemalan leaders had their own interests, which did not always coincide with those of their U.S. sponsors. Although the United States certainly had leverage and did use it, at same time, it was attempting to create political stability. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Solution methods of composite beams
Jamal, Dany ; Zídek,, Rostislav (referee) ; Brdečko, Luděk (advisor)
Solutions of composite beams encounter some specific problems, such as shrinkage and creep of concrete, cracking of concrete and plasticity of steel, partial interaction of elements or history of erection and loading process. These factors and others affect the distribution of internal forces along the beam, the distribution of stresses along the cross-section and also stiffness and deflection of beams. The goal is to describe and compare methods for analysis of composite steel and concrete beams by more simplified approaches allowed by Eurocode with more advanced techniques. The studies will be carried out on the simply supported and continuous beams designed with respect to Eurocode 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Methodic of vertical deflections determination of bridge construction by the radar interferometric technology
Antoš, Filip ; Talich, Milan ; Glöckner, M. ; Böhm, Ondřej ; Soukup, Lubomír ; Havrlant, Jan ; Závrská, M. ; Šolc, Jakub
The methodology provides guidance for determining the vertical deflection of bridge structures using radar interferometry technology. The vertical deflection of bridges are primarily caused by stress during transit of vehicles. The deflections are simultaneously measured by radar throughout the length of the monitored structure. The measurement is continuous with a high sampling frequency (200 Hz) and with high precision (0.01 mm). It is believed the use of interferometric radar IBIS-S Italian manufacturer IDS. General recommendations and conclusions are valid for every kind of radar.
