Kundrát, Jan ; Peterka, Jiří (advisor) ; Spousta, Miroslav (referee)
With the mass availability of smartphones, mobile access to e-mail is gaining importance. Over the years, the IMAP protocol has been extended with many features ranging from extensions adding new functionality to those improving efficiency over an unreliable network. This thesis evaluates the available extensions based on their suitability for use in the context of a mobile client. Three new extensions have been developed, each improving the protocol in a distinct way. The thesis also discusses how most of these extensions were implemented in Trojitá, the author's free software open source IMAP e-mail client.

Approaches to solving mobile web applications
Nadrchal, Tomáš ; Šedivá, Zuzana (advisor) ; Buchalcevová, Alena (referee)
This master thesis focuses on approaches to solving mobile web applications. Author focuses on the classification of mobile devices and the description of their attributes and specifications of touch screen controls. Part of the work is devoted to the characteristics of mobile operating systems and of mobile web browsers. One chapter is aimed on the psychology of user behaviour and expectations of mobile users from mobile website. A significant part of the work is paid to specifications of the development of web design for mobile devices and the differences to classical web design. In addition, the author describes the Responsive Web Design and the idea of Mobile First. In the practical part, the author analyzes the cross platform access to websites of Czech railway transport companies -- České dráhy, LEO Express and RegioJet. The access from smartphones, tablets and desktops is tested using analysis based on multi-criteria evaluation. To test the author uses a web emulator to simulate different versions of operating systems and web browsers. The aim of the analysis is to create a series of recommendations for better optimization of access from mobile devices.

Paligorova, Teodora ; Jurajda, Štěpán (advisor) ; Conyon, Martin J. (referee) ; Eriksson, Tor (referee)
Essays on Managerial Pay Structures By Teodora Paligorova ABSTRACT This dissertation explores three different aspects of managerial compensation: its tournament structure, its gender differences, and the effect of corporate governance on executives' pay for performance and pay for luck. In the first two essays, I rely on wage records of Czech managerial employees around the time of the Czech Republic's accession to the EU. The third essay employs the U.S. ExecuComp data set to compare executive compensation before and after the passage of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. The topics were inspired by the dramatically changing role of managers in modern firms in the recent years. In the command economy, where the state was the largest owner, managers were not motivated explicitly to pursue a firm's prosperity. However, with the transition to a market economy, managerial contracts have started to be perceived as an important incentive device. In the first chapter, I examine the structure of wages among Czech managers in a representative sample of medium and large firms in the context of tournament theory of compensation. It addresses how managers compete to be promoted at better paid jobs and how pay increases at an increasing rate across hierarchical levels. Consistently with this theory, I find that the...

Differentiation of BONEGA products by blue ocean strategy
Hudeček, Michal ; Zamazalová, Marcela (advisor) ; Novinský, Marek (referee)
At the moment, one of the biggest problems BONEGA company is dealing with is blocked access to wholesale networks by strong multinational corporations. One of the solutions is to introduce such unique and different products that customers force wholesales to offer BONEGA products as other competitors would not provide comparable devices. This thesis evaluate existing approaches to differantiation. The most suitable solution for current situation of BONEGA is blue ocean strategy. However, it has several unsolved issues, especially when applied to manufacturing firm with wide range of products, that are being solved in this paper. In order to gain long term competitive advantage based on value innovation, blue ocean strategy must be implemented into company's culture. Therefore a pilot realization of the process was undertaken. It brought several new ideas for differentiation and also valuable knowledge about adoption of the process into day-to-day company life. Those findings are also part of this work.

Macháčková, Zuzana ; Šamšula, Pavel (advisor) ; Novotná, Magdalena (referee)
Annotation: Macháčková, Z.: Image, photography as a concept in elementary school education [Diploma thesis] Brno 2012 - Charles University in Prague, Faculty of education, Department of Art, 114 p. Objectives: Based on both recommended and other literature, discuss the evolution of photography (analogue and digital photography, photographic types and genres) and hint at the specifics of photographic production in comparison with classical art media. Discuss the expressive possibilities of manipulated photography (PC photography editing, collage, photomontage, etc.), with attention to applicability of photography in elementary school education. Consider organic inter-discplinary relations between the art class and other classes. Design a didactic project for an art class, based on the Framework Education Programme for Basic Education. The project should employ digital photography as a specific and accessible art medium and should be practically validated. It should focus on experiments and etudes, in which students would use photography as an accessible tool to experience and create art. Results: The proposed project, based on digital photography as a device for art activities, has shown that photography can be practically and successfully applied in elementary school classwork. Keywords: Elementary...
