The organization of controls in the specific area of shared service centre

This diploma thesis is a practical excursion into the organization of controls in a particular shared service centre. The work deals with the company relation to the section 302 and 404 of Sarbanes-Oxley Act and describes the company's internal control system according to the COSO "Integrated framework - Internal control" issued in 1992. More detailed description is provided within the company's fraud risk assessment process and within yearly testing process of control activities in order to meet section 404 of Sarbanes-Oxley Act. The specifics of external audit when performing audit in shared service centre, the shared service centre influence to foreign accounting entities from internal control system perspective are the other topics taken in consideration. Finally, there are highlighted benefits of automated system for processing travelling expenses in relation to the COSO "Integrated framework - Internal control" issued in 1992 and in relation to necessary assurances requested by U.S. SEC for the purpose of preparing financial statements under U.S. GAAP. The company's relation to anti-corruption laws (such as the FCPA) intersect in the analytical section, whose purpose is to find internal control gaps in the department processing travel reports in terms of their content and process.
External and internal audit

The thesis attends to the issue of audit and is divided into two parts. The theoretical part deals with the definition of external (statutory) audit and internal audit and is divided to the chapters of the history, legislation, definition and role. Thereinafter describes a person of auditor, his activities, principles, methods and procedures which auditor uses. The end of the first part is about forensic audits and frauds. The application section includes at first comparison of professions and specifies the same as well as different features. The second part focuses on the relation and cooperation of external and internal auditor.

The thesis deals with comparison of external and internal audit of financial reporting. Both disciplines were initially compared theoretically and described procedures were then applied in the form of performing an audit of a chosen company called XY. In conclusion main differences as well as congruencies were summarized.
Audit instruments and techniques – tests employed in external audits

The thesis deals with the verification of selected internal processes and items in final accounts of the company Graziano Trasmissioni, Ltd. The theoretical basis of the thesis concerns problems with audit planning and performance. It provides an explanation of essential audit definitions, objectives and phases and a description of audit risks. It characterises methods which can be used for obtaining appropriate and sufficient audit evidence that is necessary for expressing the auditor's opinion about credibility of final accounts. The emphasis is on obtaining information with the assistance of control and substantive tests. In the practical part of the thesis, control tests are applied to a purchase and sales process. The test results should show whether the internal control mechanisms are effective or not. The substantive tests validate balances of accounts receivable and accounts payable. The specific objectives are tested and the results prove whether the account balances are misrepresented in the financial statements or not.
External and internal audit in Czech republic

The goal of this thesis is to describe both of the types of audit in their historical context, show their legal regulation, and explain each step of the audit process. The last chapter compares both of the professions and focuses on their possible cooperation. First from the theoretical point of view with references to the ISA and then analyses the situation among Czech auditors.
Audit in banking

The bachelor thesis is focused on audit in banking. In the beginning there is the explanation of differences between internal and external audit, attitude of auditor toward a bank and relations among bank, auditor and central bank. In the next part there is the determination of control system and procedures during the review of financial statements and related regulations. Regulations are described in connection with capital adequacy and compliance as well. Necessary part of audit is formal requirements as for example the audit verdict. In conclusion is explained, what basic regulations created in Czech National Bank are, and how CNB exacts them. Audit is also important for CNB's supervision at the distance. In the end of the chapter there is short note of internal audit in central bank to allow readers the comparison with previous information.
Internal and external audit – Similarities and differences

In the theoretic part are described basic principals and methods of external and internal audit. First is defined the term, second is described historical development, legal regulations and operating techniques of audit. At the end is described output of the audit -- audit report. In the whole theoretic part are mentioned main similarities and differences between external and internal audit. In the application part is made external audit of the concrete company for the year 2009. The data are taken from the annual report of the company. It is followed by description of internal checks, which company does periodically. Last part is audit of financial situation. There are used indexes of financial analysis to evaluate the financial health of the company. Recommendation how to improve current situation are given based on this background.

Main task, in this graduation theses, was summary of internal audit activity content, pointing out advantages of establishing of internal audit section and identification pretensions concerning internal audit section workers. Other task was elaboration of internal audit in company ČEZ, a. s. There were used auditing procedures used during internal audit in this company. All the tasks aforesaid were solved in theoretic level at first. My tendency was in detail dissect current modern internal audit conception, especially various points of view of internal audit. Practical part of this graduation theses was related to internal audit of waste management and their using like secondary raw material in ČEZ, a. s. The target was show at standard example preparation, completion, finalization and evaluation of finding of internal audit facts in company ČEZ, a. s. Firstly I elaborated internal audit submission, where were specified the character of audit, targets, termination date, audit team and thematic schedule. Thereinafter is presented decisions, disagreements, weak points and deficiencies summary. Disagreements are generalized and presented in the form of system deficiency. Following the specific statements processed in process of internal audit on the basis of demands and targets presented in the internal audit submission.
