Cultural Animation of Sacral Monuments at the Example of the Pilgrimage Church in Skoky
Turková, Kateřina ; Kouba, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Šrámková, Kateřina (referee)
The thesis studies the possibilities of cultural animation of unused sacral monuments, especially churches. The theoretical part is searching for the reasons of the current poor condition of these buildings that have lost their regular liturgical function. The aim is to describe the position of religion and sacredness in the contemporary Czech society. It reviews the concept of cultural animation and its application on the specific case of the church. The practical part of the thesis is focused on the Karlovy Vary region, which was affected by the social discontinuity as a result of the post-war expulsion of Germans. There are many abandoned and ruined churches due to this reason. As a particular example of a successful animation is described Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Skoky by Žlutice and its animation activities initiated by members of the association Pod střechou.

Protestants in Libštát (1783-1945)
Kletvík, Jan ; Foltýn, Dušan (advisor) ; Halama, Ota (referee)
There had been three different churches in Libštát for many years. This dissertation is covering the history of the Reformed church and the history of the Lutheran church. The group that had registered under the Reformed church after the issue of the Patent of the Tolerance was larger. Therefore, they were faster in getting their own minister. It was Jan Csomor, who came in 1783. They also managed to build their own church, which was consecrated in 1787. However, the Lutheran church was smaller in numbers, so they could not establish their independent church, thus they became a part of the church family with the seat in a remote village called Křížlice. They also did not manage to get the permission to build their own church, so they had been existentially struggling for quite a long time. In the end, they succeeded and built their own church in 1842. After that, they achieved independence from Křížlice in 1867 and got their first minister the very next year. The history of the whole community allows us to study the relations between the two churches and their following union in 1918. The last third of the 19th century seems to play the key role in the convergence of the two churches. The Reformed minister, Emanuel Havelka, and the Lutheran minister, Petr Marušiak, have probably played a crucial role in...

As all the architectonical works, even building of this great dome of radical Baroque came through its development. The earliest changes were done by the architect Pavel Ignác Bayer in the beginning of forming the plans. His successor was Kryštof Dientzenhofer. He changed even the basic masonry and the building as a single nave. According to the archival records there were some changes concerning the iconographical programme. The interior was gradually completed and changed partly too. The main changes concerned the paintings, arranging of the liturgical area and the Baroque organ case reconstruction as well as new organ.

Christian democratic political parties in Lutheran "Baltoscandia": a comparison in light of the secularization thesis
Hejzlar, Štěpán ; Mlejnek, Josef (advisor) ; Kučera, Rudolf (referee)
The submitted diploma thesis deals with Christian Democratic political parties in the political systems of Scandinavian and Baltic countries of Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Estonia and Latvia. These parties form a unique "Nordic" branch of European political Protestantism; and structurally and functionally distinctive, but to a great degree homogenous, subgroup of Christian democracy. A major theoretical tradition to be applied is the Rokkanian party system analysis. Contrary to its counterparts on the continent, the Nordic branch grew not from a church-based defence stance against a secular state, but from both territorial and religious dissent on the periphery. The "cultural periphery" analysis relies heavily on history and geography of religion of the Nordic countries. However, other theoretical perspectives are taken as well in order to compare different aspects of the parties' affiliations and policies, such as their cabinet policies, ideology or EC/EU attitudes. In another chapter, possibilities and limits of Christian democracy in the Lutheran environment of Latvia and Estonia are examined. Is Scandinavian experience portable? Or are there other ways of Christian political mobilization used in the public spheres of the two Baltic countries? A similar theoretical framework is applied,...

Nunneries of Upper Lusatia between spiritual and secular power in the 16th and 17th century
Zdichynec, Jan ; Bobková, Lenka (advisor)
Out of the various religious and church structures of Upper Lusatia, the presented thesis focuses on the local women's religious Catholic houses, on the Cistercian convents of Marienthal and Marienstern, and the penitent sisters of Mary-Magdalene's convent in Lauban and on their domains. The period of interest is mostly 16th and 17th century. These abbeys are the only catholic institutions which have survived up to this day in the mainly protestant area. The introductory debate about monasteriologic research and about the possibilities of applying modern historical methods to the field are followed by an overview of the research dedicated to the area - both from the local and general German, or even Czech point of view. Careful analysis of the utilised resources follows. In assessing the factors that allowed the coexistence of institutions firmly tied to the Catholic Church and of the Protestant majority, it was first necessary to investigate the role of convents in the local society and to explore the earlier pre-reformation events. For the existence of monasteries of traditional orders was, in the early modern era, determined just as strongly by politics, (church) administration and by social and economical factors, as it was by its coexistence with protestantism. The existence was often continuous, tied...

The art object in religious architecture
BAUEROVÁ, Jana
This diplom work is about the problems of the conception of the space and its expression through an art object in concrete space of St. Bartoloměj church in Ledce. The theoretical part contains the general treatise about the Romanesque churches in Posázaví and its an unusual big number in this locality. Here, I present the basic characters of Romanesque buildings and the meaning of empory, which refers to the church in Ledce too. The main thing is a presentation of this church, its architecture, its history and the history of the whole vanished village too. My attention is focused on a general historical process of the apse and the relation between the religious architecture and modern art. The practic part is about solution of the space of the church. My task is to create the art object, which respects the space and enters into it very carefully. The new art object should support the church atmosphere and its effects on human. It should express not only my thoughts, my feelings and the conception of the space but it mainly tries to speak to a man in his individuality, to offer a freedom of interpretation.

Josef Kajetán Tyl’s Nocturnal Strolls. The Urban Periphery in the 1830s in the genre of scene from life
Piorecká, Kateřina
Around the mid-1830s, the genre from life, subsequently renamed to sketch, found its way into the Czech literary context. In terms of content, the genre’s focus was notably on the subject of urban life and its social aspects. The everyday reality of a big city and its geographical as well as social periphery had been previously viewed, from the aesthetic perspective of Czech society of the time, as a schockingly inappropriate theme. J. K. Tyl’s unfinished series of sketches, Z nočních potůlek po městách prazských (Nocturnal Strolls through Prague’s Quarters“), marked the first times Czech readers were confronted with the world of prostitutes, alcoholics and gamblers. In the mid-1830s, it represented, alongside Mácha’s Marinka, a unique attempt at introducing into Czech literature a previously tabooized theme, together with a new style of writing which could be defined as protorealistic.

WHAT TO DO? Conversion of industrial premises, Brno - Obřany
Leidorfová, Lenka ; Rudiš, Viktor (referee) ; Oplatek, Jiří (advisor)
Submision of work is the reconstruction of the Essler spinning factory and it´s whole area. The new usage is the high school of architecture for 100 students (master's degree). The uniqueness of the place, building, construction and assignment. The proposal accept and evolve these terms. The uniqueness of the place, based on the topography, is mainly determined by the river Svitava, which determines the whole structure of the surrounding and creates the uniqueness and genius loci of the place. The island is formed by river bending and man-made mill-race, which was brought down to the water mill. The river banks, having a huge recreational potential (raiced by a bicycle path along the river), as well as possible used for recreation. The proposal also reflects and is based on the principle of education. Public education is accessible to all who are interested in and have a potential. That is why i propose as open as it is possible space. I propose the prolongation of the access bridge and create the connestion between the church of St. George and the southern bank of the river. It makes an important spiritual axis connecting the church and the statue of Saint Nepomuk on the south shore. The proposal emphasizes the recent axis of the island. Axis theme is amplified by the open space of school building and entering the school from the bridge (the exposed side from city and bus stop) continues throughout the entire building to further academic Square, serving as a susperse school area. Building construction is what is unique and what is certainly worth preserving. So it is showed as possible as it is regarding to the needs of the school. The building is showing construction upward also for students as well. This flows into in the last floor where is the open space. There is used the only one added aesthetic motion, the stals, which also emphasizes the axis.
